IT took me some searching to come across your RUclips videos, I can't tell you how many I have seen and people I have talked to including masterclasses in moving to Spain. and I just want to say your videos are the most informative I have come across. and I want to thank you for this. Everyone speaks in generalities and your group speaks in fact and details which is incredibly useful. it also does a very good job of selling your professional skills and knowledge, which honestly, I very likely will use here soon. I also like how you are a one stop shop for immigration, taxes and other issues. This is not a paid advertisement for you just the honest truth based on my experience so far.
Great video lots of information. However, can you clarify what you mean by a way to “mitigate having to pay capital gains tax on the sale of your property in your home country? “Can you give an example. Thanks look forward to your reply. Tom
Can you clarify some of the information in your video if you plan on working in Spain? There are 3 ways to become a Spanish tax resident (ANY of the 3 below and so the 183 rule is only one of them): - spend over 183 days in Spain - make Spain the centre of your economic interests - make Spain your family base (i.e. your spouse & kids are resident in Spain) Also, only people who sell their homes in the EU can benefit from avoiding to pay the capital gains tax by reinvesting in a new home in Spain. It doesn't apply for people outside the EU. Correct?
Hi Alex thank you so much for your prompt reply. We own our home in the UK, are both retired and receive pensions. We have looked at the requirements as listed by your company for a NLV , and know we qualify. However, we are following your videos and need clarification at times. Hence the question. At present we are not ready to have that telephone conversation but would like you to answer our question if possible. Look forward to your reply. Tom
Tom in effect if you sell your main home in the UK and move to Spain do not spend more than 183 days in Spain in that year to avoid becoming a Spanish tax resident and thus possibly paying capital gains tax in Spain on the sale of your main residence because you do not reinvest all sales monies into your Spanish property.
Alex thank you for cleaning that up. With regards to your video on wealth tax. What if all assets are in joint names, house in UK, house in Spain, bank accounts etc. we have a property in Quesada Alicante region. Is the wealth tax limit €500.000 each or €500.00 for our joint assets. Tom
When calculating CGT is the €/£ exchange rate at the time of sale also used to calculate the € purchase price or do you use the €/£ exchange rate at the date of purchase?
