    I do agree 100%. The match changed on the 7th game of the second set, with Sinner down 1-5. Thereafter, Sinner basically started playing without pressure/fear and he was also very close to be 4-5 in the tough 9th game. When the 3rd set started, Sinner knew he could play and i thought he world have won

    Just started the video, but the fact that Medvedev made it to the final only winning 50.3% of points less than 9 shots is insane. Shows how tennis is about winning the right points. Kind of similar to the fact that Federer has won more points, games AND sets against Novak, but Novak has won more matches 😳.

      Wow, that’s a stat!!

    • @Gigusx
      @Gigusx 7 месяцев назад

      That's a cool stat indeed! Medvedev really is a big game player, not just in terms of tournaments but in doing exactly what you said - winning the right points. He doesn't always play great or dominate but the way he works out how to win any given match, I don't know why, it's way cooler the way he does this than any other player I've seen, there's a lot fluidity in that entire process. It's probably one of my favorite things about him as a player.

    Great analysis. I would love to see the statistics of 9+ shots rally in last 4 matches Medv Sinner. I'm not sure that numbers of long rally are strongly in favour of Medv. Moreover Sinner can also count on more winners especially with his super forhand.

    Thank you for the insights and coaching tips. 100% agree with your post-match analysis, it’s crazy to see that it was a 1 point difference to determine the match from a stats standpoint point. However, it was clear that Sinner was nervous in the beginning of the match and that Medvedev was tiring at the end as Sinner was gaining more and more confidence. I’m curious to know what your thoughts are as to what was the “key-points” in the second and third sets that turned the momentum around for Sinner? Break of serve of Medvedev in the second set? Thanks again! 🥸

    20 hours vs 15 hours isn’t a slight advantage. Running 10 minute miles, 5 hours is 30 miles or a 42km marathon. You try playing after a marathon.

    Pressure is the killer. Consistency is key, but the most consistent tend to be the people who have hit the ball for the same way for the last 20 years, and they aren't going to be the sort of people that watch online tennis coaching videos :)
    Will be interesting to see how Jannik develops in the future - he got on a bit of a run of form in this competition, but that can be hard to maintain and he hits so hard and low that the moment his form goes he might struggle with consistency.

  • @cliveburks
    @cliveburks 8 месяцев назад +2

    I agree with your analysis lots of insights. Particularly interesting that Sinner was hitting lower height balls in first two sets. Pressure is a privilege Djokovic quote. Stay in the moment focus on what you need to do and how to do it stay positive in your own game. Thanks

    • @TheTennisMentor
      @TheTennisMentor  8 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks Clive, I actually think the quote was Billie Jean King originally (it’s on a plaque on Arthur Ashe Stadium!) But yes, Djokovic is a big advocate for being in the present moment… however, in a really great talk I was lucky enough to be at he explained that he didn’t believe it was possible to stay in the present, but the key is recognising when you are thinking about the past or future and switching back to present as soon as possible. His way of doing this is through conscious breathing!

    Agree in the way that it was a historic match also as Sinner bet Nole the round before. The final then was amazing and one may think he even knew what he was doing losing the first two sets. It seemed just logical for him to win the last 3. Truely a professional. 👌

  • @RobBlanzy

    • @TheTennisMentor
      @TheTennisMentor  8 месяцев назад +1

      Good question, you may need to try a few things to find out what works… a good thing to try is playing with more variety as it can take them out of their rhythm, mixing speed and spin can be awkward for them to time the ball well.

  • @jamesmckinnon9473
    @jamesmckinnon9473 8 месяцев назад +1

    Always fun to run the numbers and see analytics behind the win. Sometimes I feel like it’s simply an amazing player smashing the ball down the other guys throat and we assign meaning afterwards. Sinners a beast, and “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”.
    Questions
    Head kicked Novak off the speed? What’s going on there? Is the new MP a good stick?

    • @TheTennisMentor
      @TheTennisMentor  8 месяцев назад +1

      You may find out in March/April why Novak is not the cover image of the new speed… that’s all I can say 👀

    Would love to know top 10 shot speeds in 1st and 4th set for both players...
    Sinner appears to build confidence and hit harder in 4th. Medvedev appears more even in his shots... but smaller speeds in set 4 for him.
    Again .... really enjoyed listening to your breakdown of the match.
    Unbelievable match.

    • @TheTennisMentor
      @TheTennisMentor  8 месяцев назад +2

      That would be interesting, I agree. I think the difference in speed for Daniil was subtle, but with Jannik’s increase in confidence and the fact that Daniil shifted a little further from the baseline, was enough for Jannik to play his game again. It was a chess match! Thanks for watching Richard!

  • @twinwankel
    @twinwankel 8 месяцев назад

    Even though the H2H is 6-3, Sinner had beaten Med in the last 3 matches, a semi-final and two finals. The tide had shifted and Med's team had to come up with new strategy or it would be 4 straight wins. It was risky to be aggressive from the start of the match given Med's natural instinct to counter punch and the fact that he would expend much more energy being aggressive. By the third set, Med was tiring and so he had to revert back to his counter punching style to keep the match close. Unfortunately, recent history repeats itself and now it's 4 straight victories for Sinner. If Sinner is healthy, I don't see how Med can get another victory. Sinner is just too talented and too much for Med. I really didn't think the quality of the match was that great and certainly not close to the best match I've ever seen, i.e. Fed-Nadal 2017 AO final. It was an interesting match to watch and there were some good points but there were boring moments where both players were simply rallying and not trying to an advantage. The final point was a good way to end the match.

    Thks for this acertive video Ash, by all means Jannik show to all of Us the key factor to be resilient , he remembered me to B. Borg included the straight face and the sensitive to feel when it's the right time to diminish his opponent , the key factor is to have the physical condition under pressing and practice your strategy in my case I always have a good outcome hitting counter feet and slice downline . Once again thk U😊 very useful this video .

    I don't agree the many more hours Medvedev spent on court was a huge factor for his loss. Or put it another way, even if Medvedev had fresh legs, the odds would still be against him. The reason is that Sinner has become a superior player than Medvedev. Prior to October 2023, Sinner was 0-6 against Medvedev. But since then and before the AO final Sinner was 3-0 over Medvedev. This kind of turnaround can only come from one thing, that Sinner has become a better player, and with it he has superior confidence. Medvedev tried to be very aggressive in the first two sets not necessarily because he worried about he couldn't sustain long, but because he figured he must change something after losing the previous three consecutive matches to Sinner. This is no different from Djokovic beating Musetti in R32 and Tsitsipas in the final of 2021 Roland Garros, Djokovic beating Sinner at the QF 2022 Wimbledon, and Djokovic beating Djere at R32 of 2023 US Open, all of which Djokovic came back from losing first two sets and win. Can you say Djokovic won those five setters because the opponents were fatigued? No. He won because he was the superior player. He might get caught by the lesser players who played super aggressively and exceptionally, but over five sets the odds are with the superior player who has the experience and confidence to weather the onslaught and turn the match around.

    this is one of the best takes i've seen of the AO final. translating it to tips we can use in our matches is so helpful so thank you for that.
    the match was a real roller-coaster, i was rooting for Sinner so it was all I could wish for. i could feel Sinner was struggling in the beginning, and this was a fine example on why a best of 5 sets its a whole different game. The way he could find a solution was impressive.
    I enjoy this new format, keep it up. 🥸
