WTAF! I dropped my T3r and it completely broke. Dead. I followed your guide fully expecting nothing. And it fixed it! Batteries back in gave it a wiggle and it came back on!!! Saved me £60. Many many thanks!!

Thanks for sharing this. My thermostat has been resetting itself every time I touched it for months now, driving me mad. It’s fixed now thanks to your advice.

You just saved me £200. Basically the golden connector was rusted as well as the metallic contactor had lime scale. It worked after cleaning.

Thanks so much Mark for this video. I was about to buy a new T3R because of this problem but now it seems to be fixed after following your careful instructions. Have also used your pairing video when I lost connection a while ago and it worked perfectly. Again many many thanks !!

Thanks! Good to know this is a known issue. I've put up with this for four years. Hopefully it's now sorted.

Superb Video - thank you SO much Mark. I came in search of how to program one of these and found one of your other videos.... and it reset while I was programming it... so that fact that you mentioned that they are prone to doing this.. AND did a separate vid to show this, was absolutely spot on. Personally, I bent the battery box contacts, cleaned them with IPA and scratched them up a bit and that fixed it . but if it does it again I'll open the box and actually solder the contacts to the board with small bridging wires. 10/10 VID.

I emailed the manufacturer when I first noticed this fault and they seemed to think that I needed to replace the unit. No mention of a fix. So I did tweak the battery connectors in the compartment and that helped as the fault became very occasional. Great video as I'm now tempted to remove the motherboard to finish the job. I found that handling the unit only at the sides does tend to help.

Such a useful and detailed video, Mark. Many thanks. Found this when looking to see if we could connect to an app, and saw the exact problem we often get. No idea it was a common fault

It worked! Saved me a few quid. In my case I only had to pull the battery terminal out a bit.

Corroded battery contact on ours. 3 yrs old. Your vid pointed me in that direction -- thx much.

Thank you so much for this video! When my thermostat lost its display and only displayed a light but nothing else, I was floundered. I dont even know if I have a guarantee. Anyway, long story short I did what your video shows. OK not as neatly I figured it was broken anyway... but now I have a functioning thermostat! Thanks so much as I live in cold climate.

OMG - As comment below I dropped it too and the poxy thing stayed dead no matter what I tried. As below, it was a battery tweak. Thank you as I am no longer plunged in Siberia 😂

Good video! Not just me then! We had a new IDEAL Boiler a year or two ago, and it came with one of these wireless Honeywell things. When it works, no problem but, as this video covers, the thing is temperamental, and does indeed keep going back to the Setup Screen when it's having a bad hair day! I will whip ours apart and sort out these connections (more than capable of doing that). I thought it was just a lemon controller, so this was a timely video to pop up on my Notifications. I must say the Setup and Manual are cryptic, making it way harder than it actually is, so I think it's just a very badly written Manual. On that note, I must watch the Setup Video next.

Hi. I have a similar issue, but rather than going to the Home Screen ours is turning itself on when we want it off. We’ve had a couple chilly mornings recently, we noticed that the heating was on yesterday morning so I turned the thermostat off thinking that one of the kids had been mucking around with it but the heating was on again this morning. Turned it off again, but noticed it had turned on again a few minutes later. I have left the batteries are out currently. Would this fix be suitable for my issue?

After you've done this do you need to re-pair the thermostat with the boiler?

Hi! I went to turn the heating down on this thermostat and it went blank and then started flashing the year. But no buttons are working, do you have any ideas?

I dont recommend cleaning the contacts with a metal scraper - danger of it removing the anti-corrosion plating and so making things worse. Instead use a cotton wool bud dipped in a cleaning fluid.

Hi very interesting video 📹 you are the master professional engineer 😉 question is vaillant ecotec plus 837 R1 ........R2 and R3 whats the difference? Please let me know waiting for your reply Thankyou 🙏

Not sure on the one but difference between R2 and R3 is what they call revision number. So R3 being the newest with any updates they have made to it.
