Hey, great teaching vid!! I have noticed alot of similarity between highland broadsword and Kali Ilustrisimo. Both use angle and sliping the leg. Love both arts!🙏
the secret is the body posture not only Reterada and footwork ! the defender kept his spin straight but the attacker his body exposed like he lean in ! no magic , at the end of the day its nice and looks fancy !
I hesitate to call it "footwork" as its a transitory position that trends to sit in the middle of other positions, making it incredibly accessible physically. Its accessibility is key because it is usable when breaking an opponent's timing, which is probably the crowning glory of K.I. Shawn's posture (after the step back) retains a right hip forward position instead of putting back as one would with a full step back, gaining him access to additional range. If you want to see a similar footwork in use, review olympic epee matches and see the positioning used on that long backhand thrust. Really great video Paulo, both cats did a great job showing this.
rip Grandpa anthonio ilustrusimi .. You're legacy will be remembered around the world
Shawn is one of the most well-rounded FMA teachers.
Same as you, GM! Greetings from Russia!
Nice, it is the same measurement Mang Romy showed my last year amazing more power!
Love this guys instruction. His clip on Funker Tactical is solid gold.

It's heavily influenced by spanish fencing i thought
That footwork called is lutang. Very effective. The system is very practical and straight forward. You can visit us in luneta if go in the Philippines
I know how you felt, i started training in KI after learning a few other systems. And i was like WOW.
Thank you, Shawn! Spasibo)

Cheers.
It is quite possibly the influence of Spanish friars & their fencing with its' geometric patterns.
its a secret geometry for weapon art, :)
from my understanding PAETE Arnis is the Art of Measure ! more deeper
Your counter outspeed the opponent and reach him on the counter because he is not fully backout.
It’s a garimot aka paete move and not kalisilustrisimo esp if its from macapagal 😂
Exactly, At times you can find a bit with Yuli Romo but not with Kiro as well
it lacks one step called launch
Macapagal learn it from paete laguna and not from tatang
That will never ever work with my own invented weapon and style.
You got longer reach. Why not try the other way too. You find your reach and he backs out and he hit you.
