I just can't imagine. Seeing the waves coming, not knowing if you're high up enough, & when the water's finally gone back out to sea, you're left in a wasteland - no power, no heat, no cell service, no roads, wondering if your loved ones survived the earthquake, waves, & ongoing aftershocks, while snow descends from the grey sky.
And that wind. I'm cold just hearing it!
I'm amazed so many people DID survive, not only the initial cascade of natural disasters, but also the freezing cold of winter. I'm very glad they did 💞

It took me a while to find the filming location, but I finally found it. Filmed from the second floor of the Miyagi Toyo Co., Ltd. Head Office/Ishinomaki Factory. I don't know if YT allows links to google maps street view, but the latitude/longitude is 38.41381991273089, 141.33849538588902 -- go to street view and change the date to Aug. 2011. It's the light blue building with the blue/green stripes around the top.

It's very hard to copy these coordinates. Can you please post them separately as a comment, or, add a google maps pin? Thank you

It looks like this starts after the biggest wave is leaving. The height line on the buildings is huge. I wish I could have seen the wave come in. If it is anything like it going out, it had to have been fast and large. From the height of the person filming, it looks like it was very close to them. That had to have been very frightening. Thanks for sharing this video. I hadn’t seen it before.

At 12 seconds in you see a small 2-story building. The outgoing wave about 1/3 of the way up the first story. But you can see that the damage from the first wave goes up to the roof. It's kind of amazing that building did not collapse.

This is the best example of these films showing the amount of waves they had coming in. Not just one or two big g ones

Haunting. The destructive power of nature is incredible. Tragedy. Prayers for the families still suffering from the loss of loved ones.

The 2nd surge went much higher that got those guys worried the roof wasn't going to be enough lucky the building didn't come off the foundation.

This earthquake released nine GIGATONS (9000 megatons) of energy. That's why it could hurl the sea so far inland,
