This rendition of Running to Stand Still is so great. Edge is so damn talented.
Agreed.
I wasn't expecting it, before he started to sing. But it's a great with that loop
Edge comes across as so modest. Cool guy to hang out with
So opposite his singer...
Just watched it in 2021. The most incredible and spiritual meeting with The Edge ever. Thank you both so much. The attitude of The Edge is just incredible.
The Edge, "I cant sing." -proceeds to sing incredibly-
Yeah, you can hear that he and Bono have grown up musically twinned. He probably sings in his head every night while playing. Second nature to him.
Love The Edge's voice, it has always meshed so well with Bono's.
I have really become a huge fan of Edge. The guy is so underrated as a guitar player and just continues to surprise me. What a great video.
underrated? He's probably the most overrated guitarist on the planet.
It’s like certain kinds of abstract art.
Someone who knows very little about art (maybe they even do some Bob Ross style painting, themselves) looks at a piece with some simple squiggles and geometric shapes and says, “look at this overrated junk! My six-year-old nephew could paint something like that!”.
Someone who has studied and admired art for years, knows the history of progressing art styles, understands what subtle differences in shades and hues do to the mood of a piece, understands weight and balance in a piece and how that affects perception, understands how to interpret meaning and feeling from the symbolism of some simple shapes comes along and sees the same painting… she simply whispers, “genius”.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if you think Edge’s playing is massively overrated, you just don’t get it.
@@jeffmansfield914 All great musicians play low volume without exception. That's the musical equivalent of what subtle differences in shades and hues are in a painting. TE doesn't do low volume.
@@onesong2001
Low volume? You know they play stadiums, right? Unless you’re talking about playing musically with dynamics, in which case I would say Edge has done plenty of that, as well. Besides, it’s not like dynamics is the only litmus test of a good musician/instrumentalist. There’s rhythm, consistency, having control/technique, note choice, crafting tones, composition, and many other indicators that one could use in determining the musicianship of an artist. Another factor to consider is success. Of course this should be taken with a grain of salt since we know there have been a glut of talentless hacks, whether guitarists, singer, or whatever, who score high on the charts. But there are also tons of very technically skilled, high-brow, elitist, jazz guitarists who might poo-poo the playing of a rock guitarist like The Edge and his “reliance” on lots of effects and special amps while they are “busy” playing twice a week at the local restaurant or occasional wedding reception. So, perhaps, in some way, the argument about someone’s musicianship and craft may be moot if the “superior” musician ends up playing over the sound of forks clanking on plates as people are finishing their chicken parm and the “overrated” guy is selling millions of albums and packing arenas and stadiums around the world. 🤷🏻♂️
@@jeffmansfield914 If you are playing stadiums and can't play low volume there's not going to be a lot of feeling in your play and you'll sound soulless like edge.
Your conclusion seems to be that art is irrelevant compared to some crap that sells millions of copies.
Do you like Michael Jackson?
I love love love hearing The Edge! He is so talented in singing and guitar playing. i love hearing him singing w/Bono or on his own. Hes amazing!
I would pay good money to hear and have a solo album done by Edge, just with him singing and playing his guitar. That would be an awesome deal. I wonder if he could do it without breaking any contract's?
Actually, there're 2 albums made by him "solo". The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Captive (1986) and "Cold Colour Dream" from 2012.
cool. thanks
I would buy that in a heartbeat! Excellent idea!
U2 Argentina Only down side is that Edge doesn't sing on either of those recordings. But it is cool to hear the result of his instrumentalist creativity!
@@U2ARGHe's not singing on it though. Still I love that album. Especially Rowena's Theme.
I love everything about this. It’s beautiful. The world needs more of it.
Wow--he sounds just like Bono in this vocal range! Amazing talent.
Enchanting! What a gift. I could listen to the Edge sing & play the guitar all day. Thank-you.
all day, all nite, all year, all decade. i love this Leo man. He makes me happy just hearing him
We all know Edge's favorite U2 song is Running to Stand Still.
Edge is a musical genius
he's on the same level as Michael Jackson
JACKSON NUNCA FUÉ UN MÚSICO DE ALTO NIVEL.
WOW Life Goal - Achievement unlocked..Had I been there. This is what I imagine it's like to hang out with the Edge. He just picks up a guitar nearby plays something amazing for you. Is totally down to earth and then enjoy a great meal together.
Stunning evolution and rethinking of Running to Stand Still. Beautiful documentary. Thanks.
I love The Edge, he's just amazing and he is so natural with everyone all the time. Love U2 and Mario Batali is appreciated as he gets serious when he cooks. Two great guys!
Just worked out if he was the only one left you'd still get U2
but without the pretentious thieving scumbag
While I do believe Adam and Larry are great, I see where you are coming from. Most of the defining sound and how it changed over time revolves around him. And I don't care about the haters. He was my first guitar hero who inspired me to become a musician myself. And he will always have a place up in my personal top ranks.
@@derfalschejunge sounds like you are pretty crap on guitar too?
Soo Cool... As a Chef and MAssive Edge and Mario Fan I loved this
2 heroes , same passion
That song was fucking beautiful!!!
Wow, gotta love the Edge!
Really enjoyed this interview! Thanks for the upload. ❤
This is so cool. I love the Edge, and that meal looks delicious
I wish I could like this post 1 million times!!! Thank you for this gem!
Fantastic chat, was awesome listening to this.
Ok... We want a solo album! With that edgy voice! Love it man.
That was such a good episode. I love it.
PRECIOUS SONG.. AMAZING VERSION by THE EDGE..! 😍
My guitar hero.
O CARA É TÃO BOM QUE O QUE ELE TOCA SÓ ELE SABE FAZER E NINGUÉM CONSEGUE FAZER. GÊNIO THE EDGE.
Two of my favorite people in one video.
Dos grandes artistas.
12:12 Here one can see/hear WHO is U2, actually...
The food of life, simply made to be beautiful!
PARA MIN O U2 NÃO VEJO APENAS COMO UMA SUPER BANDA DE ROCK. E SIM MEU GUIA ESPIRITUAL. AMO MUITO.
Fantastic vocals!!
Music is art. Not all expression is satisfying to the mind. Music is no different. Great to see his heart about music. Clear headed and exposed. Wow.
art is a 2 chord loop with echo played over and over and over and over and over...
🤣
I've never heard Edge say "Wow" so many times.
wow
now I'm STARVING
Thanks for this
Edge is one of the best guitarist 🎸
I don't even like seafood, and I was drooling at that plate of food.
Cool video, thanks for sharing!
it proves you can be convinced of anything
Goosebumps
So we’ve heard Sunday Bloody Sunday, Love Is Blindness and now Running to Stand Still. This clearly proves The Edge could perform by himself too. Today for the first time I thought U2 should put some Edge’s solo performances in their shows like Depeche Mode did with Martin Gore.
Edge is magic !
Great guy. Genuine.
Two superstars ✌️
Viendo a THE EDGE , me paso doto el dia y noche
Y se me va el tiempo
Y ni cuenta me doy
Que Dios lo acompañe cuide proteja y bendiga siempre
Saludos desde GUATEMALA

'Trust your intuition there's always magic in the kitchen'
This is awesome.
If someone brought the music and food idea main stream, where you could pay to be there and listen to the chef and musician up close and smell those aromas! Wow that would be heaven!
Wooow. Guitar sounds great , and you can sing , man
Magic...!
Sorry, but you can never ever ever ever compare food to music. Food is so temporary, but a beautiful song composed will feed the soul.

Very cool vid. Never imagined these two guys together. Used to watch Mario Batali years ago on Food Network :-) But, hey, who doesn't like Italian .... even Irishmen ?
He and Robbie Krieger are my favorite guitar players :-)
Super Cool.
Cool video.
great little segment. I think the only problem was it was a little forced trying to go from the Edge to the cooking. I see what he's trying to do, show the creativity behind both art forms. I think the show would be better served by somehow cooking something that is related to the guest. In U2's case maybe a dish that is simple but complicated taste that is Irish. Make the food match the guest.
The Edge is Welsh, actually
Agreed, it's a tenuous link that doesn't work in my opinion.
Wow ❤️
nice interview !... :)
Genuine guy ❤
looks delicious
Listen to the master.
YEAHHH...EDGEEE
Great interview. Two experienced professionals making their art. I miss Mario, MeToo'd for being a handsy drinker while cooking.
He sound like Bono when he sings.
Ofc he does he’s been pretty much living with bono for 40 years
Bono sounds like The Edge! 😀
He sings with on albums, you're probably hearing him.
"Wow."-The Edge
Daaam he can sing so good!!!!!
Love Bono, but The Edge's voice _melts_ me.
I knew I saw that guy before...he Is a chef and used to appear in a Spanish show cooking
fantastic video...2 masters in the same room. Edge you can absolutely sign your ass off mate...
that's a weird comment
maybe on Songs of Experience Edge will be on lead vocals for a song or two...
One of the true masters of using loops is Phil Keaggy. He's been doing loop stuff for 30+ years.
Where did he get the effects? Steve Hillage, he said in a different interview.
"The edge of hunger ...." Is that why he's "The Edge?"
So beautiful... 💙🎸🔥💋
he spent a lot of time in makeup
A music architect
The Edge is cool, no doubt. I’m not so convinced with the chef and all his cooking metaphors.
He's a prick lol
An interrupter
Edge is so cooL smooth.. Made sure to sell that dish to not offend his friends feelings never eating one cLam 🎸
capo
Do you know Bertin Osbourne tv show?
The edge now sounds like Bono did back in about 2000 (which, to be honest, was much better than today's Bono). Edge should sing lead for Experience, for sure.
Bono's voice is gone. New Yesterday Day has to be paid at a lower pitch and he cant sing Vertigo anymore. It really sucks.
@@espinozafn the 360 tour was kind of the last great U2 tour where the band was running on all cylinders
@@espinozafn Have you seen the Abbey Road 2017 show? He sounded amazing
Getting to really like Edge .. the more of these kind of docs i watch the more i like the guy .. i always thought he was a bit "up himself" ..due to his success etc... but no !! .. he seems a really likeable humble guy .. (he`s added to my dinner guest list) ... check out "it might get loud" for more insights to the guy ...
Turn on the captions and laugh with me.😆
Toppppppp
I may have missed it but what was the white wine?
How many adjectives can Mario Batali use in one segment?
Holy shit I can smell the dish the chef made.
D A E A. E
I need to record it .....
Evans look a bit dubious at 14.00 about the concept of chatting about FX pedals in association with cooking seafood
Two great people who excel in their crafts - each with tremendous passion in what they do. Those that can't comprehend or have no interest in why a great musician can have things in common with a great chef are simply dull & ignorant. Not many things are better than great food and great music. They both are moving to those that appreciate such things. 2022 and Mario was exonerated....
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@onesong2001 That's the best you can do? Emojis? You must be brilliant. Nothing says "I'm an articulate, intelligent person" like emojis.
@@ruffxm Your comment made me laugh a lot. You think the edge (what a ridiculous name) excels in his "craft". Is that a boat or does he whittle driftwood he finds on the beach? He's undoubtedly one of the most overrated guitarists in history.
Edge likes his food, always eating LOL.
Wow, this is a great engaging interview. Very cool. Edge seems like an actual person. Not a famous musician.
is he a musician? i thought he was an echo machine salesman/bullshit artist
i need a vest that says "spaghetti"
What is the Looper Unit Edge is using ?
Watch his Rig Rundown video
Wow never knew edge and Bono speaking voice sounds so alike. I guess it must be the Irish. I wonder if all four sound the same instead of just the two
He sounds Welsh. 😊
Music and food what else do you need.😂
intramontabile THE EDGE...
Ok ... now Im really hungry
The Edge is awesome, but this to funny. I'm trying to understand the connection between cooking and music as if there is suppose to be one. Anybody have any thoughts.
I am a Chef, and I can't star cooking until I have the right music playing. You need a rythem and flow in the kitchen as a Chef. U2 is the purfect band for this! I love creating cuinary masterpeices to U2. I feel my dishes have the emotions of the songs while I sing to the food as I cook :)
Bernard Dugo The connection I made was about 'passion'. Each person is incredibly passionate about their respective talents - and they both have excelled at it.
Melting elements together so the sum is bigger than the parts... Like they belong each other and you just "discover" that connection... better yet if that combination is unexpected.
I'm trying to understand the connection between The Edge and music
