Just watched it in 2021. The most incredible and spiritual meeting with The Edge ever. Thank you both so much. The attitude of The Edge is just incredible.
My two favourite U2 songs are “Running To Stand Still” (especially the ZooTV live ‘hallelujah’ version) and the acoustic version of “Every Breaking Wave”. “Bad” rates up there as well.
It’s like certain kinds of abstract art. Someone who knows very little about art (maybe they even do some Bob Ross style painting, themselves) looks at a piece with some simple squiggles and geometric shapes and says, “look at this overrated junk! My six-year-old nephew could paint something like that!”. Someone who has studied and admired art for years, knows the history of progressing art styles, understands what subtle differences in shades and hues do to the mood of a piece, understands weight and balance in a piece and how that affects perception, understands how to interpret meaning and feeling from the symbolism of some simple shapes comes along and sees the same painting… she simply whispers, “genius”. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if you think Edge’s playing is massively overrated, you just don’t get it.
@@jeffmansfield914 All great musicians play low volume without exception. That's the musical equivalent of what subtle differences in shades and hues are in a painting. TE doesn't do low volume.
@@onesong2001 Low volume? You know they play stadiums, right? Unless you’re talking about playing musically with dynamics, in which case I would say Edge has done plenty of that, as well. Besides, it’s not like dynamics is the only litmus test of a good musician/instrumentalist. There’s rhythm, consistency, having control/technique, note choice, crafting tones, composition, and many other indicators that one could use in determining the musicianship of an artist. Another factor to consider is success. Of course this should be taken with a grain of salt since we know there have been a glut of talentless hacks, whether guitarists, singer, or whatever, who score high on the charts. But there are also tons of very technically skilled, high-brow, elitist, jazz guitarists who might poo-poo the playing of a rock guitarist like The Edge and his “reliance” on lots of effects and special amps while they are “busy” playing twice a week at the local restaurant or occasional wedding reception. So, perhaps, in some way, the argument about someone’s musicianship and craft may be moot if the “superior” musician ends up playing over the sound of forks clanking on plates as people are finishing their chicken parm and the “overrated” guy is selling millions of albums and packing arenas and stadiums around the world. 🤷🏻♂️
@@jeffmansfield914 If you are playing stadiums and can't play low volume there's not going to be a lot of feeling in your play and you'll sound soulless like edge. Your conclusion seems to be that art is irrelevant compared to some crap that sells millions of copies. Do you like Michael Jackson?
I would pay good money to hear and have a solo album done by Edge, just with him singing and playing his guitar. That would be an awesome deal. I wonder if he could do it without breaking any contract's?
U2 Argentina Only down side is that Edge doesn't sing on either of those recordings. But it is cool to hear the result of his instrumentalist creativity!
WOW Life Goal - Achievement unlocked..Had I been there. This is what I imagine it's like to hang out with the Edge. He just picks up a guitar nearby plays something amazing for you. Is totally down to earth and then enjoy a great meal together.
I love The Edge, he's just amazing and he is so natural with everyone all the time. Love U2 and Mario Batali is appreciated as he gets serious when he cooks. Two great guys!
While I do believe Adam and Larry are great, I see where you are coming from. Most of the defining sound and how it changed over time revolves around him. And I don't care about the haters. He was my first guitar hero who inspired me to become a musician myself. And he will always have a place up in my personal top ranks.
So we’ve heard Sunday Bloody Sunday, Love Is Blindness and now Running to Stand Still. This clearly proves The Edge could perform by himself too. Today for the first time I thought U2 should put some Edge’s solo performances in their shows like Depeche Mode did with Martin Gore.
Very cool vid. Never imagined these two guys together. Used to watch Mario Batali years ago on Food Network :-) But, hey, who doesn't like Italian .... even Irishmen ?
If someone brought the music and food idea main stream, where you could pay to be there and listen to the chef and musician up close and smell those aromas! Wow that would be heaven!

great little segment. I think the only problem was it was a little forced trying to go from the Edge to the cooking. I see what he's trying to do, show the creativity behind both art forms. I think the show would be better served by somehow cooking something that is related to the guest. In U2's case maybe a dish that is simple but complicated taste that is Irish. Make the food match the guest.
The edge now sounds like Bono did back in about 2000 (which, to be honest, was much better than today's Bono). Edge should sing lead for Experience, for sure.
Getting to really like Edge .. the more of these kind of docs i watch the more i like the guy .. i always thought he was a bit "up himself" ..due to his success etc... but no !! .. he seems a really likeable humble guy .. (he`s added to my dinner guest list) ... check out "it might get loud" for more insights to the guy ...
Two great people who excel in their crafts - each with tremendous passion in what they do. Those that can't comprehend or have no interest in why a great musician can have things in common with a great chef are simply dull & ignorant. Not many things are better than great food and great music. They both are moving to those that appreciate such things. 2022 and Mario was exonerated....
@@ruffxm Your comment made me laugh a lot. You think the edge (what a ridiculous name) excels in his "craft". Is that a boat or does he whittle driftwood he finds on the beach? He's undoubtedly one of the most overrated guitarists in history.

This rendition of Running to Stand Still is so great. Edge is so damn talented.
Agreed.
I wasn't expecting it, before he started to sing. But it's a great with that loop

Edge comes across as so modest. Cool guy to hang out with
So opposite his singer...
The edge is fantastic to me. I love his high notes with reverb and delay.
Love The Edge's voice, it has always meshed so well with Bono's.
The Edge is one of the few guitarist of the world who blends sounds and sound effects into something amazing!
I have really become a huge fan of Edge. The guy is so underrated as a guitar player and just continues to surprise me. What a great video.
underrated? He's probably the most overrated guitarist on the planet.

Soo Cool... As a Chef and MAssive Edge and Mario Fan I loved this

I am inspired by the edge, with a strat, whith reverb and delay. Its the sound i love.😮❤

Actually, there're 2 albums made by him "solo". The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Captive (1986) and "Cold Colour Dream" from 2012.
cool. thanks
I would buy that in a heartbeat! Excellent idea!

Wow--he sounds just like Bono in this vocal range! Amazing talent.
The Edge, "I cant sing." -proceeds to sing incredibly-
Yeah, you can hear that he and Bono have grown up musically twinned. He probably sings in his head every night while playing. Second nature to him.
Enchanting! What a gift. I could listen to the Edge sing & play the guitar all day. Thank-you.
all day, all nite, all year, all decade. i love this Leo man. He makes me happy just hearing him
That song was fucking beautiful!!!
I love love love hearing The Edge! He is so talented in singing and guitar playing. i love hearing him singing w/Bono or on his own. Hes amazing!

Fantastic vocals!!
Wooow. Guitar sounds great , and you can sing , man
Sorry, but you can never ever ever ever compare food to music. Food is so temporary, but a beautiful song composed will feed the soul.

Love Bono, but The Edge's voice _melts_ me.
One of the true masters of using loops is Phil Keaggy. He's been doing loop stuff for 30+ years.
I knew I saw that guy before...he Is a chef and used to appear in a Spanish show cooking
He sound like Bono when he sings.
Ofc he does he’s been pretty much living with bono for 40 years
Bono sounds like The Edge! 😀
He sings with on albums, you're probably hearing him.
Wow ❤️
The Edge is cool, no doubt. I’m not so convinced with the chef and all his cooking metaphors.
