    No free/full ride for American caucasian students with 4.0 GPA and 32 on ACT. The bar is set much higher, with international students competing for admission (and the rich ones parents' willing to pay full tuition) and the bulk of scholarships going to 4.4 GPA/ ultra high test scores plus compelling bar stories like first generation to college or overcoming extreme adversity and/or coming from an underrepresented ethnicity.

    As a girl from the Caribbean , I am more confident. In the Caribbean though we have to write Cape which is an exam we have to take to get into a uni so I don't know if I could get a scholarship if I don't get straight A's in my exam. I don't know why I care about this now because I am 12 and I have to wait 7 years to write this exam. Probably because I think about my future everyday and it is really important that I study abroad because that's my #1 goal rn.

    Your information about financial aid is misleading. I see a lot of ppl in your comments are foreign nationals hoping to come to the US. Take note that federal student aid is for AMERICAN CITIZENS only. Also, while the universities themselves do not take into account of your ability to finance your studies, the American Embassy in your country of origin will check on your financial background to determine if you have the resources to finance your studies. THIS IS IMPORTANT. If you cannot prove you have the money to pay for at least the first couple of semesters, they WILL NOT issue you a F1 Visa. Also take note that as a foreigner, your tuition fee structure is classified as "Out of state," Which means you are paying up to 3 times more than an american citizen to study there. PHD financing is another matter.

      @portiacaguioap317 8 лет назад +3

      +linguamarina ohh I see. But I have no idea where to apply for that opportunity award. Can you please enlighten me about the process of applying to that? Thanks and more power ☺

    • @lyn4536
      @lyn4536 7 лет назад +14

      +Portia Peleño you should search for the education usa office in your country because the program may vary between countries,
      at least in my country (Chile) you have to fill an application (very short about two pages) and just by doing that you enter to the opportunity award selection process. The requirements are that you obviously have a high level of English, excellent grades, being a participant of extracurricular activities or being a volunteer worker and show limited financial solvency .
      Selection Calendar (For process in Chile):
      november (2016) - january: application process
      january - february: evaluation
      february: interviews (in english)
      march: notification to selected students for the second step
      march: examen de competencia en inglés
      march: final selection (realizado por comité regional)
      april: beginning of the program
      Selected students calendar:
      Those students who have been selected are going to participate in activities including exam preparation, application essays etc. that will require 10 hours per week.
      Between april and december 2017 will be 3-4 week sessions per month, including:
      April - october 2017: Exam preparation, search and university selection
      July - September 2017: Taking TOEFL
      June / September / October 2017: Taking ACT o SAT
      October - December 2017: University applications
      November - December: Scolarship applications
      January - april 2018: Wait for results
      May - July 2018: Visa
      May - July 2018: Preparation to departure.
      What i found the coolest thing is that if you get into the program they´ll don´t just help you with the application process to the university, helping you with the Costs of international exams (TOEFL, SAT y/o ACT) and application fees but they will also cover your visa and your flight tickets (only departure) to USA. I hope this answer your questions. If not let me know!!

    Question: How many SATs or TOEFL exams do we need to give?
    Question: When to apply for financial aid?
    Question:When to apply for the universities i.e. while studying 12th standard or after that?

    • @lanawidian8659
      @lanawidian8659 6 лет назад

      Usually American universities require the SAT exam and the TOEFL exam, however top universities such as Harvard and Stanford, they require doing SAT subject tests on top of the SAT and the TOEFL tests.

    Also , Marina . I have only one question . Really hope that you might answer me . You said that magister has more opportunities to get a financial aid . Now I am going to 11th grade and I am full of thoughts what should I do . You said that magister has more chances to get a financial aid comparing with bachelors . So , how do you think : should I get a bachelor degree in available universities in Europe and then go to study to USA to MBA or should I go to USA right now , when the probability of success is 20-30% ? Now I am preparing to the SAT and TOEFL , which I will pass in October .
    I will so much thank you if you answer me ! I could get your consultation , but problem is my finance and I have only one question .
    Please .
    Thank you .

    I'm 17 and from Germany. I'll finish school 2018 and plan on doing 'work and travel' in Canada. After that I'd like to study in the US. I have no clue on how to get a scholarship because my grades aren't that great. Do I have any chances? What should I do? How can I make myself outstanding for the universities?

      I am thinking to study in USA on a bachelor degree, however i didnt find out ways of getting of scholarship. One university in USA wrote me in email that in case if you finance your education, in studying time maybe they will provide a scholarship, moreover not full one. Therefore i suggest for you better to study in Germany, cuz of will be cheaper. If i would be a citizen of EU i would do so, continuing a master degree there in USA.

    Actually a lot of universities are now recruiting men to try to even out the high number of women that are enrolled. I agree there isn't true free college in the United States even with assistantships and tuition provided you are still required to pay the fees, which usually runs 1k to 2 k per semester.

      Tonu Thomson You need to pass the SAT (visit Collegeboard.org and KhanAcademy.org ); pass TOEFL (visit ets.org/toefl ) and search for colleges (visit Niche.com ). Learn about the colleges that you like and what opportunities they offer for financial aid, housing and what courses they offer.
