When the cup final really meant something. Being a child of the 80s I used to secretly wish for the cup final to go to a replay each year. It was like a bonus in those days as there wasn’t much live footy around...Thursday night cup final replay beat Tomorrow’s World and Panarama every time!

It did seem to go to a replay for like 3 years in a row when I was at primary school. I guess we're showing how much older we all are now. Anyway great comment.

I was at 81 and 82 cup finals and replays. Great days, great memories. Absolutely brilliant. Long time ago, things a lot different then. Players got up from hard tackles, not like todays players, diving rolling around for nothing.

1:58:48 - final whistle ..... 2:01:11, Steve Perrymen has the cup in his hands. Now it takes 30+ minutes while they build platforms, show adverts, interview players etc - no wonder fans of the losing finalists leave the stadium at the final whistle these days #AMF

Brings back some great memories this. I was at the first game on the Saturday the first FA Cup Final I had ever been too and was disappointed that I didn't see the cup presented. The FA Cup Final was such a massive occasion then. Shame that cup finals don't go to a replay these days.

In the days of hardly any live football I was always exited to see the FA cup, & when the final went to a replay it was brilliant as we got to see another match on tv. I got to see 1 cup final in 1990 which coincidentally also went to a replay. Good memories

I was at the final, and then a few days later I was back for this replay. It's only now, 35 years later, on the day I heard that John Motson is retiring, that I've finally seen the TV footage and heard the commentary.

The whole FA Cup final occasion has shrunk . Back in the 1970s and early 80s it was HUGE. it was truly as big as the European Cup final. Young people simply won't believe it but that is true. As a fan if your team could go to Wembley in May and win who cared about the league or Europe?

It's because the root of all evil - money. That's all football means now to the top two divisions. I don't include the lower & non league divisions that's where the real British football is with British players & managers with a little sprinkling of foreign players welcome, tho they'd all like to be up there!

How is it that the cup competition's old finals matches felt as if there's more hyoe to it..
The atmosphere is amazing, the fans there looked as eager to watch this as if it's a UCL final..
And also, every club in the country actually thinks this cup matters, unlike today when you'd rest your rest players for the FA cup
But seriously, what happened to the hype this competition had?? How is it that no one no longer rates this cup competition simce the last decade or so??
