Gila Wilderness

The Gila Wilderness, located in southwestern New Mexico, is one of the most pristine and historically significant wilderness areas in the United States. It was designated as the world’s first wilderness area on June 3, 1924, is known for its rugged landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and rich cultural history. Gila National Monument and Gila Hot Springs are the two main destinations reachable by road.
