    Great commercial with Ernest Borgnine.

One commercial was a charity fundraising request for The American Lung Association. The other was a public service announcement for the US Forest Service, of the US Department Of Agriculture.
ABC was a weak third-place network, that was dealing with financial problems. Their shows as a whole had low ratings, and therefore couldn’t attract advertisers.
John Daly, who was a war correspondent for CBS News Radio, took the ABC News anchor job with certain conditions. He was to be also serving as a vice-president of the network, and to be paid part of his salary in ABC stock or the parent company’s stock). They accepted Daly’s conditions, as it helped keep the broadcast’s costs way down, and gave Daly a shot at a big payday if the network started to make money years later.
John Daly was the news anchor at ABC News from 1952 until he left the network in late-1960.

He was probably best known for his 17 year gig as MC of "What's My Line" on a rival network, CBS.

Yes indeed, he was. But for 21st Century viewers, they do not know about John Daly’s groundbreaking work at ABC News, simply because news broadcast footage was believed to be lost for many years. Only recently have broadcasts of “John Daly And The News” resurfaced, and have been posted onto RUclips for future generations to watch and learn.

For awhile, he was doing the News & WML simultaneously .
Taylor Grant covered the casts on Tuesdays when WML recorded/aired.

John made one of the biggest mistakes in TV history on May 31,1964 when he told the live TV audience:"I've just been watching the most incredible ball game. The Mets and the Giants are in the 20th inning."
All over the Greater NYC area, tens of thousands of sets turned the dial to the game.

This was about a month after NBC lauched The Huntley-Brinkley Report with Chet Huntley and David Brinkley to compete against Daly on ABC and Douglas Edwards on CBS.
