    For easier comparison please keep the relevant information on the screen so we can skip between the different setups easier without having to go to the beginning of the setup to read, then skip further towards typing test etc. just cumbersome to do this.
    Chapters would also be appreciated.
    And with as surprising outcomes as this, a little comment to show you haven't accidentally switched up the video material would also be appreciated, just to clarify any doubt viewers might have.

    • @kaeroseon
      @kaeroseon 10 месяцев назад

      The 0 flex is kinda a design flaw for the mod005 as it really doesnt have enough room to flex downward and the FR4 is a considerably stiff plate. I got a PC and POM plate made for me and its a lot flexier and also fixed a little bit of the sound issue. Its acoustic and internal design is a whole other issue but for a first try its not a bad board.

    Was that with ABS or PBT keycaps? It's definitely interesting that it has that marbly/creamly PE sound even without the PE foam.
    The solid PCB really changes the sound... the reviewers that got flex cut PCBs, the sound was really thin and muted. The nonflex 1.6mm PCB sounds so much better.
    And with leaf spring mount, it's probably still not a harsh bottom out.
    I do like when a board starts with a nice clean tone to start... it allows you to shape the sound to your PREFERENCE with foams. I still don't like those elitists saying that you shouldn't add anything to an expensive keyboard. I do think that the best boards have a good sound in any config.

    • @kaeroseon
      @kaeroseon 10 месяцев назад

      I mean i do think that you shouldnt completely kill off the sound of an expensive board with loads and loads of foam, as expensive boards usually has good sound without any dampening, its more of a guideline to say try all config before you stuff your board with foam i think. The old school slightly hollow airy sound is something that i do feel is less harsh than foamy PE. The pe foam signature is very satisfying but also slightly tiring imo. And if you like a deeper sound, most types of dampening foam does the reverse of that. And you do kinda want to hear all factors that goes into a board, not just the switches, plate, pcb and foam. But 1 layer of case or pcb foam shouldnt kill the uniqueness at all. In terms of flexcut, its definitely something that should be more thought out because a lot of board do sound thin before taping off flex cuts and even then they still feel relatively bouncy.

    You're an innovative person, hope you'll like this idea....
    Many gasket mounted kbs has zero flex, I have a solution! Just do the force break mod with a thick foam gasket tape, this will create more space for flex. And...apply both gaskets at low in stacks! It will change the feel and sound entirely!

    • @kaeroseon
      @kaeroseon 10 месяцев назад

      this idea has probably been done before but I feel like it would change the looks of a board too much and the sound change is mostly gonna be the PCB and plate being isolated. Also the part about many gasket keyboard has zero flex, most of them arent supposed to be a trampoline. They are supposed to be just enough to soften the bottom out, usually not enough to actually have more than 1mm of movement with just your fingers. And, most keyboard do have flex, just the ones on the lower end of the price range tend to have less flex because they have to worry about sound and external design more than flex. Forcing too much flex can be an issue. Its an interesting idea for sure, but something that would potentially make more sense is maybe custom acrylic pieces to increase the internal gap just enough for there to be more room without compromising too much on looks and sound, as you would still get some natural characteristics of the board. And on some board, it would allow for some side glow as well.

    The foam dampens some of the frequencies in the stroke. I'd say without the foam, it sounds a little livelier and playful, whereas with foam, it's not as fatiguing over longer sessions. If you like the sound, no foam is pretty neat. If you want a milder, less peaky profile, foam it.

      @@I3ohdan It is very confusing because it started off as dampening foam/material, then evolved into foam cut specifically for certain parts. But these foam types have names relative to parts of the keyboard and some people may relate it to the parts above, some relate it to the parts below, some mix and match and over the years it has become a jumbled mess. I do think the standard and most popular is plate foam between plate and pcb, pcb foam is PE foam mod style foam sheets that goes under the switches and case foam is under the pcb.

But yes spend that much on keyboards is ridiculous, but mechanical keyboard as a hobby is already a tertiary needs to begin with, I mean, if you talk about hobby, you can't really use economic value to rationalize the money you spend, lots of other hobbies are insane, automotive, car custom modification is easy example, at least in my country lots of people do custom their car, there're lots of car/bike communities here, there lots of people who sell their custom parts, etc.
