@@jkardi9803from the very little I know about rock tumbling, they could take a week to tumble, and there’s multiple stages with different grits, so it’d be super easy to forget about them at any stage in the process.
I desperately wanted a rock tumbler as a child. I honestly don’t know what I would have done with all my tumbled rocks, but it sure would’ve been fun. Watching your shorts is a good way for me to live the dream vicariously!
I have no idea what to do with mine either 😅 I've collected rocks for years and always wanted a tumbler, I got one at the start of the year and done a couple of batches, I learned my lesson about mixing rocks of different hardness though, I need to learn more about the actual rocks to know which ones to tumble together, but despite a lot of shrinkage of the less hard rocks and some bruising and cracks, they all turned out really pretty, the neighbour kids took a couple that they liked, and I have some quartz from my local quarry that I might gift to the mother in law with a couple of others because she's into crystals (healing, auras, etc). I might get some nice jars/vases to display them in as decorations around the house 🙂
My parents got me a rock tumbler kit when I was 11. It was entirely their idea. I started tumbling the stones in my room before I left for school. Mom unplugged it. I put it outside on the porch for the afternoon. Mom unplugged it again. I put it in the detached garage the next morning and left for school. She unplugged it a third time. My rocks never got polished. They got a total of 45 minutes of tumbling. Mom said the sound of the tumbler was driving her nuts. From the detached garage?
Yes but I can speak from experience, cleaning it out stinks. Literally. Like indescribable rot. I doubt the average hobbyist would want to deal with maintaining it.
@abbunnies9784 well, it's hard to expect that sediment collection tank connected to drain would smell like roses... Gypsium contains Sulphur in its chemical composition and abrasive agents used in rock tumbling, being some other minerals, may not reek as much.
@@nosferatadentata965 it might not, but as stated, for the average hobbyist, it's doubtful that the maintenance for it would be worth it it over the method she uses in the video. For someone running a business, it could make more sense, depending on scale. Depending on the chemical composition of the stones being processed, even if they were not tumbling frequently it might need to be cleaned out on a monthly basis to prevent serious stink. Plus this is not even getting into the cost for a hobbyist.
Probably because 7, a prime which is coprime to 10, is seen as a "random" and "large enough" number, but it's two syllables, so you increase it for extra drama (going to 6 feels weaker) and snappiness of pronunciation.
I built my own rock tumbler out of an old pump jack, a Folgers coffee can, and an old inner tube when I was a kid. I did use the actual grit and polishing compound from a hobby shop. It worked pretty good.
Tumblers are used widely. Common uses are to minutely blend various minerals in recipes for heat fired glazes on pottery. Also the same function to create colored grounds upon which gold leaf is placed and burnished to mirror finish.
Just finished my first load pf rocks. Unfortunately they remain hazy. Im gonna do a diffwrent load, see what i can learn, before going back. Do you happen to have a video showing what the rocks should look like after each cycle? I work best with a visual and havent been able to find anything so far
Visually it's very hard to tell the difference between the different grits except for all the rounding you get from 80 grit and the final polish. You have to be very careful to get everything cleaned off when you move to the next Grit and you have to make sure you give them long enough (usually about a week) at each Grit. It also pays to know enough about your rocks to know whether they'll take a Polish at all. Soft rocks do not polish well.
I’m not sure why you were worried about it. I don’t see how the slurry could hurt the rocks, even if they sit in it for all those years. And indeed, they turned out lovely.
I guess if something got into the water before it was sealed and depending on how long it was sitting sealed for it could’ve been real funky smelling 😂 that was my reasoning anyway
Where do you get your rocks to tumble? It’s something I’ve been wanting to do, both for myself and to sell some with my other crystals. I also make wire wrapped jewelry and I would definitely look for some rocks that would make a cool pendant.
the ones she had in this tumbler eother came with the tumbler or she got a tumbler refill box....i get my rocks from drive through medians..takes me 20 minutes to get into the dollar store cause of the rocks in their plants area out side
Wow they are so beautiful. It's my Christmas wish to even have one beautiful stone for Christmas lol. You are very lucky, thank you for your channel and time you take to share your lil beauty's. Merry Christmas
Really beautiful after washing. How'd they look after they dried off? I have 2 barrels that size polishing now. One of quartz and the other with some jaspers and other like minded stones. These will be my first attempt at this.
I have two tumblers still sitting unopened from July over where I used to live/work. Circumstances have made it impossible for me to go retrieve them and I'm terrified of what I'll find. They were stage 3 and 4, so I'm hoping for the best. 🤦🏼♀️😬🤞🏻

Dental technician labs have special gypsium sedimentation tank attached to the drain pipe so that ground up plaster wouldn't clog up the pipes.
