I love shining shoes; it's cathartic, calming, and the results are always satisfying. Love the edging with the cloth and toothbrush. I'm wondering 2 things, though. 1) Why use spit? Why not water or some other liquid? 2) I like to use a brush to buff with? Is there a reason not to do use one? Damage, small "hairs", etc.? Thanks!
I was delighted to see this video, that shows the Queen on her best moments, without worrying about her job.She need it.Relax ,and enjoying her private lives ,with family ,and friends...What I most like is men in skirts, and the piece of cloth in red ,they use.( Scottish color)
I would always remove the laces, keep a tree in the shoe and use a non wax polish on the vamp - the creases on your vamp explained why. As for the spit, do you really need to be told?
Harold Ellis - How Interesting! I can’t imagine the alcohol would be healthy for the leather, though. Mind you, I don’t think spit is particularly good either!
Curious that you kept your french cuffs down for this task. Wasn't anticipating the spit although I should have known better. Great channel.
Years ago we also used to polish the sole for about an inch just in front on where heel ends.Velvet is also a wonderful material finish

Roll up a sleeve by one or two turns first, and tuck laces into shoe before dusting to prevent polish getting onto the laces.

Spitting? Horrible!
We also used the brush inside a cloth ,rolled up to give more friction on the brush for the polish heat to get good.
That spit destroyed my imagination of the princesses world 😨
I think the most correct way to do this is just paying the shoeshine boy,and then brag to everybody else that you did it yourself.
A better way is to get students to pay him to teach them, and then let them do all the shining.😛 😀
A trick I was taught was to blend some rubbing alcohol with water, instead of spit.

Ewe! SPIT! That can't be right. I just can not agree to that no matter what tradition says. Just.... ewe!
Carmen St-Denis Your saliva is acidic. I believe it helps melt the polish a bit. Saliva also used to clean fine art.
