I can't even believe that these are the lyrics that came to her mere months before he was diagnosed. Can you imagine a better tribute to their time together? Permanence within impermanence.
What an INCREDIBLY beautiful piece of music. I can listen to it 10 times in a row and never get tired of it Just knowing what happened to Ben and the fact he had the relationship with Alejendra can make me tear up every single time I hear this piece.
I'd never heard any music from this band until yesterday, as I'm a big CHVRCHES fan and I was looking for similar artists to listen to and came across SVIIB. Before listening, I read up about the history of the band. About how they came to be, how they developed. The tragic passing of Benjamin Curtis and how this album was finished over the next months by Alejandra Deheza and produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen. I then listened to the album late at night, listening to the lyrics and this final song absolutely tore me up in a way which no other song ever has. It is a powerful, joyful song and a celebration of what Curtis and Deheza meant to each other, how they changed each other for the better forever and that what they accomplished will carry on long after they are both gone from this world. But underneath the positivity and optimism, the listener is always thinking about the pain and longing that Deheza went through. The irreplaceable hole that losing a loved one leaves when they are taken away from you. This song can lift you up, inspire you or destroys you or do all three at the same time. Without wishing to sound glib, it reminds me of how I'd imagine Fawkes' Lament to sound when he is mourning the death of his master, Albus Dumbledor.

Hauntingly Beautiful….
I love that kind of mature nostalgia. Thanks, Alejandra

I've just noticed how Alejandra bears a striking resemblance to the CHVRCHES lead singer, Lauren Mayberry.
Wow. Nice essay, I'm not being sarcastic. Rest in aural bliss, Ben. You are loved, just in case you can see this in the afterlife......
