Ahahahah! I was thinking the exact same thing. "..lovely boat, just have to guess 5 number and 2 stars, and I buy one of this". It´s Euromilhoes, kind of lottery.
Even if you don’t have that kind of money viewing the designer and craftsman’s final creation is extremely pleasing but also reassuring to know that perfection actually pays in business.
HR still continues to create and build functional, beautifully structured boats to easily fit different financial choices/options. 2024 and their 50-60’s footers still take my breath away. If ever the times arrive when I can afford a yacht, HR is the only way to go.
A dreamer who sailed first on Annapolis three mast sail boat in 1982 and fell in love...Live in Arizona, but always dreaming of sailing the seven seas...Great boat to sail the deep seas. Thanks!
Price differs around the world, a link to a sheet with current/local prices would be good. Telling the current price for a specific region is bad practice. But since this is a blue water yacht you can just jump into your timemachine travel to Sweden buy the boat and then sail away :)
Really good looking boat and an incentive review/tour. Good for single handed sailing but with that many electric gimmicks some wind/solar and even maybe a water turbine must be needed if you want to sail long passages and maybe with that much modern ship a hybrid engine might work better as well
Once upon a time one needed more than an index finger to sail a boat. And when I hear of all these assist systems I can not help but think about the abilities of my middle finger.
These reviews are very useful when planning my boat. The hull shape is something to be considered, but I'm really not into unskegged twin rudders. Collisions do happen and I know personally an incident with whale - in the middle of the Atlantic...
I personally was mid-Atlantic when we were struck by (or possibly we struck him) a juvenile sperm whale. Its better to have and not need, then need and not have; especially so when lives may be on the line.
Very late to the party, but I agree whole heartedly. I’m on the west coast of Canada, and would only consider a skeg, double hung rudder. Lovely boat in every other way - except the hull shape and dual daggers - lol. Peace
If you can forget about the price, this boat is perfect aside from only having one head. Really love the extra space you get from a centre cockpit. I don’t understand why the bigger manufacturers like Beneteau and the like have stopped making CCs.
HR's are great boats, with that hull shape, with almost full beam aft I'd prefer to have seen a slightly smaller galley and an en suite head for the owner's cabin. This is without doubt a fast hull with a lot of modern racing yacht design cues, bullet shaped with almost a full beam aft, hard chines in the aft portion and twin rudders, I wonder how comfortable they would be to weather? Oh I forgot, gentlemen don't sail to weather😂😂😂😂 I saw a video of this boat from Dusseldorf, and as much of a HR fan as I am I actually prefer the new Moody 42 DS, similar hull design, but a totally different design ethos with regards deck and interior layout, if I won the lottery I'd have one of each. Got to go a long way to beat a HR
Good to see Yachting Monthly back again. But I miss Chris Beeson's critical reviews. This video seems more like an advertisement video like the one Yachting World do.
Those teak decks always look amazing when new. Such a shame that they get weathered very quickly and turn grey. Such diverse opinions regarding centre helm stations in comparison to the dual setup. Would be good to get the real expert opinion on this subject. One interior wood finish that HR doesn't offer is a dark wood, high gloss (varnish) finish. Something like mahogany or cherry. I'm really into the classic look with lots of brass fixtures. The 57 or 64 would be be my first choices, or something completely different like the Amel 60 👍
An all round good review including sailing and price instead of berthed and showing bedrooms... what’s happening, people are having faith in their product’s without any secrets: so often the price isn’t mentioned like it’s a matter of “we’ll judge you and how much you can afford then rip you for more.” There’s a few good reviewers out there, some even take sarcastic but constructive criticism well. Good job and a huge plus for mono hulls just the beam might be a bit much when anchored but hey... old’s cool cool, Multihulls hulls are nice but there’s nothing like heeling over in a 20+ knot breeze, now I just need to sell my house.
It's a nice feature when entertaining another couple. Nothing is worse than trying to get ready for a nice dinner ashore, stopping off in the head and getting blasted by your guests previous stinky poo.
Why wish? Make it happen. It really doesn't have to be a $500,000 boat... but make a goal. Write the goal down on paper and think backwards, step by step, to where you are now. Focus you mind and CHOOSE to accomplish your goals. Or... you can keep crying on the internet. Your choice.
...cool thing is, assuming you are an experienced sailor, you don't even have to own one. You can charter and split the cost for a week with a bunch of friends and family, or you can crew on one for either very low cost, zero cost, or get paid, all depending.
good stuff, but with that aft cabin, where is your bulk stowage for off shore crusing? this would be the great coastal cruiser, but if i was going offshore, i would want a "42C", add a few feet dedicated for stowage.
Very practical and well thought out boat. Regarding the lack of a chartplotter repeater at the nav station, most people would use a laptop for navigation and planning there today, so it's good that they did not include something most people would not use. Did notice a repeater under the dodger, which is also practical.
Honestly, everything about this boat screams marketing to people who've never owned a boat. Needless complexity and stuff that will just break five years down the line. Two heads makes zero sense on a boat this size.
How tall is the gentleman doing this review? It would help assessing the space and headroom. ie, if he's 6'7", it's not bad for headroom. less so if he's 5'7".
Yes, designed by Frers, with a keel to drag through water, I mean no stupied box keel. Mast on frontdeck with a short head sail. A long boom for the main. Why not a longer traveler over the full width? Further details are beautifull. Only one problem: "£", sorry for that.
These boats fascinate me. They look like they’re really good boats, and good at what they’re marketed to do. A question, though: does the plumb bow have any advantages, or is it just the modern style. Personally I don’t like the looks.
Thank you Theo, Beautiful boat. Would love one with an enclosed camper canvas and anch for the traveler to prevent all the water in the cockpit. I saw water pooling all the way forward on the finish wood. I like it dryer. Just me and mine. Too used to sailing the San Francisco Bay Area. How tall are you for perspective? Again, thank you 4 sharing :-) Jay
I would have designed the interior very differently. I would have removed the chart table (pointless feature in the modern world) and made the port side into a mostly linear galley, but with the now-removed chart table made into a work surface, perhaps with a fridge or freezer below. The starboard side would have a combined day heads and en suite for the aft cabin (doors at both ends), as well as a wet locker space, conveniently located next to the companionway. The silly armchairs would be gone, replaced with a settee, which would also serve as an extra berth, with its full length becoming available by opening a panel in the forward bulkhead to stick your feet and legs through (taking away some of the space in the hanging locker opposite the forward heads). The current layout makes this modern 40-foot boat look cramped, more like an 80s 35-footer.
A lot of the new boats have an awful lot of electronics controlling critical parts of sailing. I guess this is ok for weekend sailing but for any serious cruising I would be worried that if an electronic component failed you might be dead in the water. Mechanical things are one thing to fix but electronic repairs are beyond most people. Am I wrong about this? One final thought. Many of these new boats have the so called modern interiors. Yes, they are beautiful boats and I'd love to own one, but I really prefer the classic interiors rather than something that looks like a high end condo.
I’m curious about the new HR designs as offshore open ocean boats. Many people scoff at a fin keel, skegless rudder, and exposed prop. Can anyone comment on the HR’s philosophy in these new boats? P.S. as a novice sailor I’ve read enough to know there’s a lot more to learn!
The fin keel in a Hallberg-Rassy is moulded integral to the hull, with only the lead ballast bolted on seperately, where many new boats the entire keel is bolted in to a grid inside the hull. This is the way they have always built their keels. HRs are sill built as bluewater boats. A long keel, skeg hung rudder and enclosed prop is still what some people swear by, but you'll need to put up with a much slower, heavier and probably older boat to get that, with the exception of a couple of marques. The HR 40c was fast but still surprisingly smooth and comfortable to sail, and absolutely built for open ocean
Look at the last 30 years of performance boats. They all go offshore with fin keels, some very high aspect ratio , and exposed props with zero concern. If you're looking for a serious expedition boat you're looking for a totally different set of criteria which encompases what you outlined.
You did an excellent job with that review. I just bought my lottery tickets. I’m 6 numbers away from ordering one.
Ahahahah! I was thinking the exact same thing. "..lovely boat, just have to guess 5 number and 2 stars, and I buy one of this". It´s Euromilhoes, kind of lottery.
Tuesday April 13, 2021, big Mega Million jackpot. Good luck.
I am another leg on the crypto bull run away from this boat 😜
Even if you don’t have that kind of money viewing the designer and craftsman’s final creation is extremely pleasing but also reassuring to know that perfection actually pays in business.
Finally, a Halberg Rassey 40C test in the English language. Very professional videography and presentation. Give those guys a raise!
HR still continues to create and build functional, beautifully structured boats to easily fit different financial choices/options. 2024 and their 50-60’s footers still take my breath away. If ever the times arrive when I can afford a yacht, HR is the only way to go.
Good to see a yachting monthly video again...👍
A really, really informative boat review; thanks for restarting these, they have been sorely missed...
Great to see Yachting Monthly back at it again. Always enjoyed your reviews.
Beautiful boat with so many cool features to break
Oh man, this is a dream of a yacht, however for me it will remain exactly this, a beautiful dream.
Yeah it's my dream yacht
Looked in my subscription feed and saw a Yachting Monthly boat test, almost thought it was 2015.
A dreamer who sailed first on Annapolis three mast sail boat in 1982 and fell in love...Live in Arizona, but always dreaming of sailing the seven seas...Great boat to sail the deep seas. Thanks!
One of the best reviews I've seen. Thank you! Gonna check out the 44 next...
Nice , down to earth, no non sense review. Thank you.
Thank you to Yachting Monthly for this test. I hope you will continue to produce this kind of excellent material!
Good to see a boat that's not filled with too many heads.
Good to be told the price ... often missing from reviews 👍
S Jay yep agree... even just a ballpark should be standard in any review... just helps to put in context!!
Price differs around the world, a link to a sheet with current/local prices would be good. Telling the current price for a specific region is bad practice. But since this is a blue water yacht you can just jump into your timemachine travel to Sweden buy the boat and then sail away :)
around $400K

Umm, there's a search engine, not sure if your familiar, google.
Nice one mate. That’s exactly what I expect from a review. Many thanks

The best and safest brand in my opinion
High quality review of a really interesting boat. Thank you!
incredibly well-appointed for its class.
Just came across this… beautiful sailboat!
I want this one to live on!
Me, too! What a dream!
What a lovely boat. I hope i can get to having this one in the future 😇
I’ve been missing the Yachting Monthly Boat Reviews!
how i love helm design of Hallberg-Rassy or Nordship....just perfection.....and forever battle in my head - fin vs full keel :D

If you like the Moody, check out the Sirius 40DS. Best of both worlds.
Would love to know your opinion of Amel, New and old.
Love the decks so far. I'll have to look into this.
Great space planning. All the best !
Excellent review. Beautiful boat. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the video. Suggestion: Could you manage a test of the AMEL 50? All the best to all at Yachting Monthly.
Good to see Yachting Monthly back again. But I miss Chris Beeson's critical reviews. This video seems more like an advertisement video like the one Yachting World do.
...looks sweet! I'm ready to crew if you have one of these and need crew!
It's good to see a review again. Thanks folks!
And a quality review it is.
Very impressive review. Great centerboard cruiser with so much space for a 40f! And expensive....
Thank you for great review !!!
Beautiful boat. Why not an induction cook top?
YES!!! Yachting Monthly is back on RUclips! Ahoy matey 😁
Good work Theo! Enjoyed this review!
Where is Chris? Thanks for the review though.
Guy says at the end of the video how much it costs.
RUclips comments: "hOw MuCh DoEs iT CoSt!?"

It's bloody beautiful. I don't see why you'd want a head for ever person on board anyway. When they go wrong, and they will, fixing one is enough :)
Having a second head means another one is available if one needs repair.
It's a nice feature when entertaining another couple. Nothing is worse than trying to get ready for a nice dinner ashore, stopping off in the head and getting blasted by your guests previous stinky poo.
excellent video
I personally don't like the plum bow for aesthetics and it seems to make this center cockpit vessel "wetter" overall.
My dream boat.
Super review 👍🏻
I truly wish, I was a millionaire, this was a lovely review thank you.
Why wish? Make it happen. It really doesn't have to be a $500,000 boat... but make a goal. Write the goal down on paper and think backwards, step by step, to where you are now. Focus you mind and CHOOSE to accomplish your goals.

It would be great if you also reviewed the performance cruiser of Azuree 41
Best bang for the buck right there!
2 Toilets on a 40footer would be something for a family that spends alot of time on the loo
Alot of people with expensive boats are full of sh1t😂
Honestly, everything about this boat screams marketing to people who've never owned a boat. Needless complexity and stuff that will just break five years down the line. Two heads makes zero sense on a boat this size.
KISS
Either they spend a lot of time on the loo or someone is a bad cook. 😨
You’ve clearly never been dying for a piss while your mrs is taking a big one. Two toilets crucial for us 👍.
What kinda shoes is dude wearing?
Oh my, exactly what I want. Champaign tastes on a cheap beer budget. LOL
I was wondering at what point during your transatlantic voyage would the batteries give out. Would the boat be dead in the water?
How tall is the gentleman doing this review? It would help assessing the space and headroom. ie, if he's 6'7", it's not bad for headroom. less so if he's 5'7".
Hi Mark, Theo is 185cm / 6ft 1 in tall - hope that helps
@@YachtingMonthly Yes. thank you.
I was coming to ask the same question.
A short king!
Very nice if you can afford it. A bit small for liveaboards perhaps. My dream is Amel 60, but then that's a very different story.
What do they think of themselves at Hallberg-Rassy? Euphoria or Swan? Thanks for the great review by the way.
Curious where the propane is stored ?
This boat is fantastic !!
Hey, nice video. Why don't u review hallberg rassy 64??
Fantastic boat

I didn't know that Beneteau offered an HR trim package.
You are back. Fantastic. But just to let us know: Where is Chris?
A sailors dream ! ! !
If she’s carrying weather helm, how functional is the back stay?
in 4 yrs I will buy this boat. by then it will be used prices and I will have enough to tour the world.
All the best, its the best luxury boat .
Seems like a good choice if on a budget
Would have loved to see more about the tender garage.
40 foot those back bins is where you keep your tender aka paddle board 🤪
Jugaloking69 Dope lmao true

Jay
I think the water is from where they washed her down after their sail.
Theo is 6ft 1inch tall.
Nice video
The rudders losing their grip in about 12 knots of wind? Not good at all. They need to fit deeper rudders.

44ft is my favourite

Il tue ce bateau le prix aussi!!!
Are the chairs recliners?
Beautiful
Great boat
A manual mainsheet? I'm rather impressed....
How much of the electrical goodies can be made redundant?
All
can it be manned by one person?
Price?
seems like too much work having to stretch your arm out to push those buttons
For you sir; we recommend having a crew abroad at all times.
They're probably working on a bluetooth controller for your butler to press
lovely boat. but i'd prefer the sirius 40 ds
Basically the only thing you need to sail into the future is money, money and money... Like it or not.
How tall are you - for reference in hight?
Like Sailing up In Maine
aw where's me ol' mate?
More of interior design videos.... Whay about SAILING CARACTERISTICS!!! Some of naval aspect.!!!!!
