Wynton didn't do too bad here! The guy on the piano was holding it down too!! Reminded me of McCoy Tyner with that left hand!! Great job by both of them!! Impressive playing!! Just what I needed

His solo on Contemplation means another virtuosity, like that of Louis Armstrong: the placement of the notes, the sound, the timing in the arrangement, the story: virtuosity is not about fast notes and runs, but about the here above. x

6:30 is where absolute respect and admiration conjures up intense listening that could make you forget where you are and miss your cue.. (been there) His solo on "Yes or No" from "JuJu" is the best ever! Feed it into a computer and expect a perfect mathematical equation.

What Wayne has, as both a soloist and a composer, is the ability to fascinate, to open up the heart and the imagination of the listener, to take him on a journey of discovery. Whether a ballad or a burning tempo, whether screaming or in a soft whisper, he has the total intensity of focus that comes from courage and commitment (no ego, just being totally in the moment). He's enlightened - this is what so many experience in his music. It took decades for his genius to be fully recognized, whole new generations had to be born, but finally he's in his rightful place, recognized as one of the absolute all-time greats of jazz.

Some interesting things going on in "Endangered Species." I think Wayne cut his solo a bit short and the band wasn't ready to continue the arrangement. You can see Wayne point to Wynton (30:52), then Wynton points back as to say, 'keep going.' Through it all everyone stays cool and Carlos saves the day in taking an unexpected solo.

Wayne Shorter is incredible but The JALC Band is very safe and white bread sounding. I am sure all of these guys are well-educated jazz musicians and perhaps that's the problem. Everything they play is so precise and clean like a museum.
