Ashton Chiweshe is my uncle. The greatest guitarist of all time. I’m comforted that I was with him through his last days of life. Uncle may you rest in peace and your passion of playing the guitar lives forever. Thank you Uncle.

Ndebele people originated from the Zulu and guess what? Research has shown that Zulu people have 70% of the DNA of Shona people and that Zulu as a language came about from a mixture of Shona and the San and Khoi Khoi languages as our Shona forefathers married Khoisan women

Ashton Chiweshe was our family sahwira and lived opposite our house in Highfields. I used to go over to his place and he would leave me to fool around with his guitar. Back then, I had no idea he was a maestro or understood the legacy he would leave. To me, he was just one of my uncles and the men that nurtured me. Little did I know, I was around greatness. You never know what you have until it is gone. I see that now in hindsight. I wish that I had somehow picked up some of that stardust that Ashton had. What a gentleman and humble being he was. Aigara panumbet ani, kupi? My grandmother used to say she witnessed him being assaulted by some yiuths from a political party in the 1980's, in Highfield, Harare.
Hahaha this is fantabulous. The greatest musician we ever had in Zimbabwe. Thank God I had the privilege to sit down with the legend in his house in Oregon, here in the United States on 18 January, 2023. I had a fruitful interview for my Masters in History research on Chimurenga music. Thanks to Miami University for making my dream to meet a legend in a foreign country come true. It was the best moment ever, let alone the research. I had the best learning experience ever since I had to play, listen and dance during my 2 year-long research. Thank you vaMapfumo for accepting me at your place, it was an unforgettable memory-making moment here. Far away from home, this track itself and Chimurenga music take my soul back to my motherland. The nostalgia is serious because i spend much of my time listening to chimurenga music.😢 5 july 2023 15:21
this song reminds me of my childhood.. it gives me chills.. I'm from Colombia but I believe there's a little bit of Africa in all of us, Africa is our mother, this music is like food for the soul
i still remember Admire Taderera going crazy during this show , he actually call back the legend back on stage , what a show , sugar chiweshe was at his best alongside allan Amitayi, Sabha , lancelot, and Chibhambu. this was the best lineup ever.

I still remember very fondly, I was around 10 when my uncle went to Zimbabwe for a few years and when he came back, he absolutely brought back some of Zimbabwe back with him. Thomas Mapfumo and his friends' music would play in our house very often from that point on and it otherwise had a huge impact on our values. I will forever be grateful by the twist of fates that led me to know of these artists. Peace and cheers!
i was 15 yrs when this show was aired on national Tv , i recorded it with VHS, I STILL have it , what a moment of pure magic ,greatest band of all time , AMITAYI ON BASS, LANCE ON CANGOS, , ASHTON ON GUITER, EVERSON ON PERCUSSION, with the best drumer apooooooooooo

The guitarist's name was Ashton "Sugar" Chiweshe. He was never fired by Mukanya but decided to go it alone and would return to Mukanya as a session guitarist. R.I.P Sugar.
Hauntingly beautiful and hypnotic! The vocals and the dancing as well as the guitar sound: pure class! It's rare to hear the concert rendition of a song that is as fabulous as (if not better than) the studio recording. Mukanya has no peer whether recording in studio or performing live. His fabulous music and longevity attest to his legendary status.
Always a revolutionary and Thomas has never changed. I am surprised by the new generation that supports oppression and want to come to this platform to discredit a man that stands for the poor. Mukanya whether people like it or not is a legend and is still singing
What an incredible guitar solo. It just keeps rising and rising ... It helps hearing this song in performance. Everyone plays so well. Aston Chiwesh is playing through a long cycle echoplex-digital delay and does it beautifully.
The nostalgia when you hear this song is REAL. Doesnt matter where you are. But if you were in Zimbabwe and followed music this era, this song takes you right back.... LIFE😢
