Wow what a fantastic bit of footage, true history right there x
Nice one Jane . My Grandparents ran a boarding house on Charles Street number 22 from 1933 till 1970 , they used to tell me tales of ‘the yanks ‘ around town during world war 2 , they always had RAF lads staying in their boarding house at the same time . Luxuries like cream cakes and stuff generally not available due to rationing, we’re always available if you were in the know . my grandad Percy , was a stick man ( a maintenance man up Blackpool Tower ) for 30 years while my Nan ran the boarding house . Great footage !
Are you the Andy Ball that I know?
It is indeed I Jane 😎
I have photos also of RAF guys taken outside my grandparents boarding house on York Street.
That was fun to watch Jane. I enjoyed the music also. These were wonderful times when the community spirit was therapeutic after the severe challenges the people depicted in the film had faced. Thank you so much for sharing.
Nice old footage to see the changes in Blackpool and prom
Good to see them taking a break from securing our futures 👏👏👏
Hi Jane thank you for another great video as always so nice to see all them lovely people having a well deserved break have a lovely day xx
Awesome video what a lovely change it was nice to see how they were all the same come along way from those days somethings are good and some things not so good I don’t remember life then I wasn’t born but I remember my lovely parents ❤️❤️ telling me God bless um till the next one 😊
Blackpool was once a place prospering with wealth and class vital to winning WWII. But nowadays it is rife with poverty. Even the Golden Mile is filled with rubbish and decay. The 30s to 70s were the golden era for Blackpool. I'm hoping the town can get back on its feet again. It is a beautiful place.
It's not doing a bad job of getting back on its feet. The Golden Mile isn't filled with rubbish and decay - but there are too many private building owners who don't give a damn whether their buildings fall down. Taking them through enforcement is a very expensive and time consuming process for the council, which is why too many of them get away with it.
Wonderful x
Where did you get this Jane ? Fantastic old footage . My parents were married in 1947 and had me 8years later. Mam worked in a parachute factory and Dad was a miner. They met in a dance just after the war. Sadly I've got no pictures as Dad forgot to hire a photographer 🤣.Lorna.
Literally gold dust this kind of footage.
Good primary source material. You can see why our forebears said about the yanks , “overpaid , oversexed , over here !”.
Love it ! Thats the time i would have liked to be young and carefree, jitter bugging with the US military, and a jive, looking forward to going to the 1940's event, at Lyham in august.
Jayne is giving her age away
Ha ha! Did you spot me in the film?
