My grandpa bought a new one in 1968. I used to follow him every time he tilled his garden. I eventually ended up with it and his old Oldsmobile Cutlass when he passed away in 1997. My first wife sent both to a scrapyard while we were separated in 2002 before our divorce. I was devastated.

When I was a kid we had an old snapper mower and I hated that thing because it didn’t look new and fancy like everybody else’s mower in the neighborhood but that damn thing outlasted everyone’s new fancy mowers about 3 times over…😂 It taught me a valuable lesson in life… Looks ain’t everything…😂

Don’t grow potatoes in the same place as they take all of the goodness out of the soil. After potatoes, you are supposed to grow other vegetables for 2 more years to put the nutrients back in the soil then you can grow potatoes in the 3rd year.

I grew up with a 1965 model that my dad kept running until 2005. It is a beast and is a great tool. You went at the garden all wrong. First you should have mown the vegetation off. Then use the first tool that you set aside. That is a rotary plow. It tills deep and thoroughly. The tiller is used for final bed preparation and weed control. For final bed preparation or on had ground like you were on, it works best when used in reverse.

And there is a piece of sheet metal to help [put the dirt it slings out where you need it and is the PERFECT thing for hilling taters. I hung a round hole concrete block off the front of the tiller to make it dig in and it's go through a gravel driveway.

When you plant your next batch of potatoes Is to put some Epsom salt inside of the spots where you plant your potatoes at.& The green stems sprout shoots that pop up on the potato bushes my friend. Sevens dust.&'tobbacco dust works well for healing your plants.

Leaves rotting in your garden over the winter every year will change the soil and if it’s not so packed then it’s going to hold more moisture! That’s been my experience here in Louisiana my friend! Try loading it up with leaves and mulch every year before winter and let it sit throughout the winter! Cow manure but not horse manure! Horse manure has too many things that you don’t want growing in your garden! Till between the rows after planting to keep the majority of the grass down! Thanks for sharing your videos Chad! Take care my friend! 🤜🏻🤛🏻👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🇺🇸

It's just that hot up here in Southern Indiana too. Being down in the Ohio river valley in the Summer is kinda like steamin' down in a crock pot. I bet that's why saunas never really took off here, if you want a sauna, just sit out in the yard a while. However, if you want to be warmer than you are now, go to Henry County, lol. I don't know why but whenever I crossed that Fitzhugh bridge over Kentucky lake on 79 headed east, the temperature always felt like it dropped 10 degrees when I crossed into Stewart County, lol! That thing is huge! We had a little self propelled cultivator (I have no idea what brand it was) with tractor tread tires on it we used to use (It may have at one time had a seat as an option but we didn't have it). It had to have been about 7 days older than water as it had a round gravity fed gas tank and an oil bath air cleaner on it. I've watched friends of mine on youtube have tater contests seeing who could grow the most and I always thought "If y'all would build hills around them tater plants you'd get twice as many", but they'd always just leave 'em on flat ground, lol.
You need to get ya an ultrasonic cleaner. I got one a few years ago and when I put in a small engine carburetor in it, that cavitation in the cleaning liquid of your choice will thoroughly clean out all the gunk in those little holes and make it clean as a whistle. I originally got mine to clean variable capacitors in old radios but I've used it for all kinds of little things to clean them out good and they work great.
That thing works a lot easier than our old rotor tiller. It's an oldie too, made back when Christ was just a corporal and it's a front tine...It'll sure build your forearm muscles up though. :)

That left hand lever is to start and stop your attachment like a clutch, the pull handle engages the pto gears. You should only pull that pto handle when at idle and then up the rpm and use your lever to stop the attachment at the end of the row. Pulling that handle with the rpm up will break the pto. I do have the same machine.

Your rotary plow needs a scattershield like the one pictured in the brochure it will help row it up a lot better.
Plow in one direction and with the shield in place, it will build up the row each pass.
At the end of the season, run the plow in the opposite direction and it will level the rows flat for next season plowing.

I grew up with those old John Deere's too. We had a 1939 "styled" "A" model and a '41 "H" model. Our "A" was always hard to start because it was set up for electric so it had that toothy flywheel on it but the battery was nearly always dead so I had to hand crank it 99% of the time (unless I had been fortunate enough to park it aimed downhill) and those flywheel teeth would bite ya pretty good now and then. With the starter at the top of the flywheel you couldn't manually grab it from the backside and pull it, you had to grab it on the front side and push it downwards. Fortunately I'm 6'8" so I always had the leverage to give the flywheel a good shove ...Unfortunately it also meant that I was the official cranker any time it needed starting :) I kept a small pillow on it's seat because that seat had a crack in it and that crack would open up jusssst enough when ya leaned forward to engage the hand clutch that when ya leaned back again that crack would close up and bite yer hide, LOL! The "A" had a hydraulic pump we rebuilt and we added a 3 point hitch to it. We also used that pump to power a homemade wood splitter instead of putting a small engine and pump on the splitter itself and then just towed the splitter around with the tractor. The only 3 point implement we had though was our bushhog. everything else was pull-type and some of that had been converted from horse drawn like our old hay rake and our mowing machine. The "H" had a single small hydraulic cylinder on it's right side to raise and lower it's plow with. They didn't have much horsepower, but they had torque for days, lol.

    I threw a load of woodchips on a plot I couldn't dig ( colorado)
The following year it had broken down and the plot was digable.

I think the attachment that was originally on the Gravely was a device that creates hills... I could be wrong tho...

More entertaining content - those machines are great - if you can get all the attachments could be useful too, especially if you fix the ride on seat.

Hard to beat them k series Kohler engines. There is a fella that lives in town that deals in old gravelys. He has an ad on craigslist if you wanna find him but if gravely made it there is a good chance he has it.
