最初为琵琶曲，以抒情优美的旋律，粗犷强烈的节奏，描绘了彝家山寨迷人的夜色和人们欢乐舞蹈的场面，音乐富有浓郁的民族特点，并具有强烈的时代气息，深受众多音乐家喜爱，被改编成古筝、三弦、扬琴、阮等器乐独奏曲及管弦乐曲。
