Way to simp, but I dont think either of them is gay. Saving hoonigan by making stupid videos asking ridiculous questions like is a subaru the best overlander? Neither one of these street cars is even close to a decent ovverlander which is why they are on gravel roads, not trails. This is actually the kind of sh!t that is destroying the channel.
More people need to realize the Forester STI (and XT with a swapped turbo and ecu) is not a Forester with STI parts it IS an STI. The Forester was on the same platform as the Impreza, the suspension is raised but aside from that it's the same car with a Forester body on it, even the weight is nearly the same. You can get an incredible sleeper with an older turbo Forester they handle just like an STI but have all the storage space of a Forester.
@@johnmontana8540 I’ve had 4 Subarus now, 2 turbo models and 2 NA. Never had to do a single blown headgasket or had a engine issue. I change my oil every 3500 miles, and leave the engine stock. The Headgasket bs is being passed around bc ppl modify the engine for power when they aren’t made for it from factory. Which you can make power with a EJ, just can’t use cheap parts and run no tune
@@jarrettwieberg That makes a lot of sense. This STI Forester is freaking sick and making me want a subie. Right now I’ve got an ‘18 Elantra sport (turbo).
I miss my Forester. Had to build my own. Did all the STI parts, plus Prodrive Stg2 and kept the 5spd with an RA gearset to match the 4.444 final drive. It was an absolute beast to drive around town lol Anything that was even remotely trying to play at town speeds was gone. Mustang and Ferrari 360 trying to play with each other? Both surprised by the white toaster lol Didn't get the STI bumpers, but I did have the skirts, scoop, top and mid level spoiler. I built it as a what if Subaru had released one in 04. Back in 05 lol It was a partial inspiration for the root beer SPT Forester that was built. The dealer I worked for worked closely with Subaru R&D and other things (long time dealer close to some facilities) They liked the idea of building a car using all factory parts. Hence the Forester SPT. It had a lot of stuff not for the Forester XT, but easily bolted on. I wish they had gone a little louder with the color on that. But they were really pushing the Legacy GT and Forester XT as upscale vehicles.
That Forester STi made me want to get one when I first saw it back in the day as a companion for my 03 WRX. That feeling is back. Actually it never left, but those things are unobtanium.
Had a 2004 Forester 5-speed manual XT. As close a we could get in the States short of building an STI from scratch. Long gone, but it's still one of the funnest/most functional cars I've had.
I get a kick outta how good the Honda Element can be with a rear diff swap to something more stout. That vehicle is literally meant for light overlanding.
Haha love this. Just wish a bit more 'fun' was had. Crazy thing is, i had the STI forester (in NZ) for 10years when it came out and was my go too for daily driving, some street races and off roading for adventuring. And now I have a 2.3L diesel Delica as my daily family car and adventuring. Both good beasts
I have a 97 Forester s/tb I imported a couple years ago (it’s like this STI version just with wrx parts instead and the EJ 20 versus the 25) and my wife has an 04 XT. Between me racing in mine and us camping in her’s I’m convinced there isn’t anything they can’t do!
That’s an awesome Forester but there are some truly amazing Overland built Subarus that deserve a feature. I’m sure they can take you guys on an actual adventure too.
Currently living in Japan and i just got my drivers license. Maybe it’ll take me years to afford something like that but there will be one day where I can afford to buy it. Ganbatte imasu . Yoroshiku ❤
I actually wanna get a truck, just so I can go Build it up for overlanding I wanna go overlanding with it I would take this car in a heartbeat It's so cool.
Honestly this seems like more of a campground car that can handle some mild offroading at best. Not what you'd typically want for a proper overlanding experience.
They came out with a wagon evo that was only available in Japan I have an sti now but I did own a evo 8 and an evo x I think the 17 sti I have is better than the 14 evo x but it’s now better then the other 03 evo I had
I currently own 2 and no they are NOT the perfect overlanding vehicle. Limited ground clearance and suspension travel being the top two reasons. However, I would put them in the perfect daily driver category.
It's not the same.. Nearly but not really.. Runs different 6 speed with longer gears without DCCD Doesn't run the EJ257 but the EJ255 (doesn't have dual avcs) Top mount intercooler is smaller than the blob or bugeye STI Runs a VF41 turbo Doesnt make it less cool though :)
Maybe if you are over landing on the highway. That shit has no ground clearance, kind of hard to go OVER landing if you can’t drive OVER the land 🤦🏻♂️ 😂😂😂
Overlanding? Nah. Subaru doesn't build for Dakar. WRC stages are at least somewhat groomed trails. Used to see one on my way to work looked exactly like this one even same color. That was in New Hampshire so IDK if it was a real imported STi or kitted and badged to look like one. People in the northeast love Subarus they are everywhere. Now I live in Florida and I've seen maybe 3 STi's in four years haha.
Ayyyy... Uncle Gary coming through with the good stuff! Im tired of this vs that. Id rather watch this vs that. *this vs that is still cool, btw. Just not s cool right now compared to this. Thank you.*
No the sti is not your best option from Subaru though this is by far the nice forester made. It's also lowered and expensive to replace a far better option is the forester XT, still plenty of power but a higher ride and far more affordable I have a lifted 05 forester XT with 15 black Rhino rumble wheels a 3" ADG lift kit and a set of Cooper's.
This is a joke, right? That thing wouldn't even make it in my driveway after the country clears a few inches of snow. It has no room, no ground clearance, no low range, no locking diffs, no suspension travel, no articulation, no decent recovery points, no winch, etc. It has NOTHING that a good overlander has, except four tires. We sell around 30-40 subaru's every month, and they are great cars. With that being said, even the wilderness package with it's baby lift kit is not even close to a decent overland vehicle. Even a POS stock Jeep liberty will drive circles around either of these vehicles off road.
Absolutely no. If anything the Toyota 4wd Haice would be the perfect and most comfortable vehicle to overland and travel with. You won't be having to worry about blowing up head gaskets. LOL
Answer: no!
Actually Yesssssssssss
Unless you’re actually trying to go over landing off road.
Agreed, plus It'll be getting the same gas mileage as a light truck doing it. And the ground clearance is.. worrisome...
More like hell no 😂😂😂. Bring them extra head gaskets 😂
Lets see how good I am at guessing. Do you drive a taco with a snorkel? Or a 4 runner? Not rhetorical, please reply honestly.
They need to bring back the STI’s in America.
For sure, subaru has lost its way
I was waiting for the new model they teased with 400 HP, to trade in my 2020. 😒
@@dandawson129 I was wanting one as well.
Wait, they got rid of the STI’s here??
@@johnmontana8540yeah only the plastic VB WRX but no sti ver😢

One more Japan drop tomorrow, it’s a good one 🎉

100% agree
People need to stop sleeping on Foresters. They are BEASTS and under the soccer mom facade you have one HELL of a sleeper.
I have a 2.5XT and travel the country in it, It flys up mountains with ease like no car I’ve ever driven. Ultimate fun road trip vehicle

If you could increase the ground clearance by 3x that would be a start.
I’ve been appreciating wagons a lot more recently. They just look nice
Albo has a great channel on Japanese car culture
Good to see the Fozzy getting some love! Thank you ALBO for representing the Forester scene well 🙌
I get a kick outta how good the Honda Element can be with a rear diff swap to something more stout. That vehicle is literally meant for light overlanding.
Yes… and it doesn’t even need to be a STi. I might be a little biased though…
I drive a 6 speed Forester now and had a 82 Delica when I lived in Japan. Great video!

Foresters SG rocks
Such a sick and unique machine 🔥🔥

Isnt the engine in the forester sti still and EJ255 not an EJ257 or JDM Ej207?
I believe this is correct its a EJ255 with the EJ257 intake manifold
SG9 STI Is my dream dailu

It isn’t the same engine out of the sti. It’s the ej255 block out of the wrx. The sti is the ej257.
