Sparks were gods in the early '70's and their 'unjammable' writing technique influenced COUNTLESS power-pop bands for many years to come. They are classic. It's phenomenal to see they're still going.
I never expected it to sound so good and as original as it did when I first heard it. I was 14 then, and I am 52 now. Was (is) one of my favourites from that time.
bought the original 45 and going to see them in October when they come to Birmingham UK. If they're as good as THIS ... and with a lively Brummy crowd ;p ... will be a fantastic night! Can't wait! Legends!
There first ever UK gig was at South Parade Pier, Portsmouth, late 1973 ish supporting ....cant remember who. The all US line up before staying here to include the British replacements. The pier was burnt out during the filming of TOMMY a few months later. I was subject to the Ron Male look being one of about 20 watching them whilst a couple of hundred were at the bars.
This version is as good as the original version - which is extraordinary, beacuse well... let's not name and shame them, but we all know those bands that play their old songs in new-but-definitely-NOT-improved ways, trying to keep up with modern times. Maybe it's because Sparks were ahead of their time? I can't say I'm a diehard Sparks fan, but I certainly respect what they're doing!
Well, nobody does it like Dinky Diamond...may he rest in peace and receive flowers on his grave from Roger Meddows-Taylor who laughed all the way to Montreux!
Of the 21 album they have, i am sure there best is the one i HAVEthat I BOUGHT WHEN I WENT TO eNGLAND IN 74 AND THAT IS kIMONO MY hoUSE. Can someone tell me if ther is a bhetrter album than that one. By the way i thought they were English
@gege92800 Rien a ajouter, vous avez lu dans mes pensées à propos du groupe et de RUclips. No more to add, you're reading in my mind about the band and youtube.
I've seem them live a few times in recent years, and the performance of this song remains the highlight for me. Russell's vocal dexterity is outstanding, and even though it sounds like he might be straining himself to hit some of the higher notes, when he nails that final "I ain't gonna leave" perfectly the hairs on my neck stand up.
Saw them back in -75, when they were in Sweden. I was just eleven, so my mother had to go with me. Luckily she liked them just about as much as I did. Have almost no memories from that concert...I was like in a trance. Still like them as much as I did 35 years ago. Can't say that about many other bands from that era...
Excellent - this song is always the highlight for me when I've had the privilege to see them live. The way Russell manages to nail the high note at the the end is just awe inspiring!
Brilliant, as ever - I went to the "Kimono My House" gig, it was fantastic. Is it just me or does Lauren Laverne bear a passing resemblance to Courtney Love ?
The great Sparks!! I have been lucky enough to have seen the band since A Woofer in Tweeters Clothing and I still love it. Great to hear the old stuff. Would love to have all 20 plus nights of their playing all their old albums live. Keep it up Mael Brothers this old fan still loves it.
@whotookmyusername I remembering being 12 years old and looking at pictures of myself from 5 years previously and thinking "damn, I'm really getting decrepit". I've been dying since 1962.
I remember Ron the keyboard player in the 1970's. He used to have a Hitler moustache, seriously freaky at the time ! Someone should start a 'Bring Back Ron's Moustache' campaign . . . . . ! !
I just love that it says "Ronald" (not Roland) on Ron's keyboard :-D

Still sounds the same...unbloodybelievable!

For the verses I reckon its:
one bar of six
two bars of four

The vocal sort of 'leaps over the bars' if you get me.
Brilliant! Thanks for posting!

Russell looks better than when he was younger.

lauren laverne not annoying?? = LOL
playback, its the tape from the 70s.
Ron is a living breathing Andy Warhol painting!
there is"nt many today who could do there songs in 30 years time and still sound fantasic like this!

It may as well be 1974. The performance is just as good.

Who ..when watching Sparks ever perform, are you not permanently glued to Rons Face lol what the hell happens in the background err i dunno lol
still got a great voice
Excellent - this song is always the highlight for me when I've had the privilege to see them live. The way Russell manages to nail the high note at the the end is just awe inspiring!
he STILL gets those high notes!!!!!
Great job, lousy audience
that was a MAELSTORM! Awesome band, I think I'm probably more of a Ron fan than a Russell fan.
Nice to se theese 2 old boys again. I´ve been a fan since I was 14! They´re really great.
Great performance. Ron's 'plug plug' is hilarious in its deadpan manner.

doesn't get any better, almost every day I listen to the Sparks ever since my dad introduced me to the sparks in the late 70's
SPARKS are so awesome. My friends think they suck....Too bad for them they just don't get the magic
Amazing , simply amazing ! 30 years later and he still sings great .Thanks
Weird Al copied the Sparks sound on a song called Virus Alert off his latest CD in 2006. He even has a cartoon version of Ron the keyboardist.
Brilliant, as ever - I went to the "Kimono My House" gig, it was fantastic. Is it just me or does Lauren Laverne bear a passing resemblance to Courtney Love ?

Fantastic.......Ron still scares the shit out of me though........
still sounds great
still trying to work out the timing on that after 30 years!!
@whotookmyusername I remembering being 12 years old and looking at pictures of myself from 5 years previously and thinking "damn, I'm really getting decrepit". I've been dying since 1962.
SPARKS rules plain and simple.....HEARTBEAT INCREASING HEARTBEAT
Amazing-Russell is in top form almost as good as he was in 1974!
omg how theyve aged but still an epic song to this day love love love it!
Awesome! Only 34 years after the original and just as good. Keep it coming Ron & Russell.
That intense stare......Marvellous!! Great band, still going apparently and a classic tune
@m900mwk No shit!
I remember Ron the keyboard player in the 1970's. He used to have a Hitler moustache, seriously freaky at the time ! Someone should start a 'Bring Back Ron's Moustache' campaign . . . . . ! !

0 dislikes.
Nice video - thanks. I saw this on TV and remember them doing Lighten Up Morrissey as well. Presumably you didn't catch it? Shame - it was top-notch.
kick ass
still so fresh!!!
Love this song. And a bit of Lauren Laverne at the start doesn't hurt :)
Forgot all about this band and have just rediscovered a sound that was very much part of my teenage development. Love them. Their classic.
Damn, Russell cut his long hair, which really set the two brothers apart. I miss the 70s.
frank spencer? this town aint big enough for the both of .... ooohhh bettie....
Same act for the past 35 years and still bloody brilliant.
Sweet Sweet memories still have all their vinyls, simply brilliant and still so sexy xx
wish there'd been a warning about Lauren Gofton, sorry, "Laverne" *puke*
Same act for the past 35 years and still bloody brilliant.
