Mort Sahl was there for so long, but I still wish he was performing. Saw him at Carolines back in the 80's. So fantastic to have youtube on tap whenever we want to watch Mort.
+Andrew Ouellette He does them on Periscope now... What I look forward to in life. The only problem is, is that I've seen, read, or listened to everything that's possible.
Mort Sahl's keen observations and humanity isn't enough to change much since everything discussion is still with us. And the cast of characters in the nineties brought us war in Iraq, and Afghanistan, and domestically bankers took over our economy and brought on 2008 financial crisis to name just a few.

A Mort Sahl bit from the late '70's: "Here's something I found funny. Did you guys hear about this? The televangelist and self-proclaimed faith healer, Oral Roberts, is trying to raise money to build a hospital."
nah, not best friend...Sahl didn't vote for him. Robert Kennedy was his most loyal friend. JFK did have some friends but they didn't say much after he was murdered. Sahl worked with Garrison on his investigations.
Well, best friend in the sense that he was one of the very few who investigated the assassination when he worked with Garrison and tried to publicize the conspiracy, and is about the only one alive from that era who is still talking about the assassination, and what a pernicious effect not outing Kennedy's murderers has had on America. He's the voice of Garrison still hammering away. Who else is talking about it nowadays?

McCarthy states at 18:06 that Paul Fisher is the man "who invented the ballpoint pen", but that's highly inaccurate. Laszlo Biro invented it in 1938 & sold the patent to Marcel Bich of Bic Pen Co in 1945. But Fisher did invent the Space Pen, which writes on virtually any surface in any direction.
Had the pleasure of interviewing Mort after he was let go from KLAC in L.A. I was working at KOST just down the block. He said a few things about the CIA that prompted me to invite him back to clarify. That did not go well. Mort was paranoid, probably for good reason, and demanded to know if I was with the CIA. I was a great admirer of his talent and felt for him. His years with DA Jim Garrison probing the JFK murder took a heavy toll.
@@AlleyCracker1 I saw that paranoia myself in a 1970 Dick Cavett interview where he was smug & unhinged about the JFK assassination, like he was the only sane person in a crazy world. I couldn't believe it; he was like a whole other person.
I sometimes like to imagine Mort Sahl as the US President in a Press conference.

Everything Mort is talking about seems so inconsequential today.
