Critics judge Kobe like nobody else…they say he was carried by shaq but he was the 4th qtr closer at age 22. They say he don’t pass but he’s tied for most assist by a SG ever. They say he was inefficient but shot 45% in the toughest defensive era which is still good. They say he only got 1 mvp but he obviously didn’t win more bc of the legal situation years ago. Now they try to convince us he’s barely top 10 even tho he was already in the goat convo in 2010 after going to 3 straight finals, winning 2 back to back vs the Celtics super team WITHOUT SHAQ OR ANOTHER TOP 75 player on his team. Stop disrespecting Mamba now that he gone! He was him!💯

45% field goal shooting is going to be considered bad. There is not much else to say. Lebron averaged the same as Kobe in the same 2000s era with better field goal percentage.

Kobe even says in an interview, that he had to play without Shaq, just because people were saying he could not win without him.
To me, Kobe was too much of an alpha in the relationship, Shaq is an alpha male, but Kobe backs it up with this work ethic and killer, mentality. Shaq admit that he got lazy in the off-season, because he know he had Kobe to defer to in the interview they did together. Shaq, had great teams in Orlando and didn’t win one title. In 2001 and 2002 Kobe could have been awarded finals MVP as well as Shaq. Dude had less help then almost any superstar that won in this game. Very impressive stuff the way he imposed his will on the league in those last 2 championships. Like you said most champions have at least 2 super star teammates, one not being able to win without the other. Gasol, I love that dude, very skilled big man. Calling him a superstar though is a big stretch.

If you do it on your own without significant help from your team then that’s crazy but that’s never happened ONCE. No one single player has won rings without significant help by someone else or others.
The closest you can see of a 1 superstar ring was Dirk but he literally had a great team. Had significant help from J Kidd, Tyson Chandler etc
Like Scottie Pippen is literally a GREAT player and would have won an MVP in the league, DPOY awards. He’d put up 25 7 & 7 with ELITE defence.
You could literally look at any big time player with Scottie like Chuck or Hakeem in their prime and it’s likely they win titles. But Mike was THE GUY. The Icon. Bigger than basketball and anyone is behind him if you’re on his team.

I remember one of the last big interviews before Kobe Bryant passed away, Kobe Bryant said that Shaq could’ve been the Goat and Kobe said that he himself would have 12 championships, if Shaq had a better work ethic instead of being lazy, and Shaquille O’Neal responded to the late great Kobe Bryant by saying,
““You don't get statues by not working hard" O'Neal commented on the post. In a second comment, Shaq also said:
"U woulda had twelve if u passed the ball more especially in the finals against the Pistons #facts"”
So Shaquille O’Neal can keep that extra noise now because he should have said all of this junk when the late Kobe Bryant was alive, because instead of praising Kobe Bean when he was alive, one of Shaq’s public last words to an alive Kobe Bryant was Shaquille O’Neal pretty-much calling Kobe Bean Bryant a ball hog, so we don’t want to hear Shaquille talk nice now because he’s probably feeling guilty over those negative statements in response to Bryant’s PBD interview. We still remember when Kobe Bryant had to come out to say that he’s too old to go back and forth with Shaq on social media AND THEN Shaquille O’Neal cleaned up the mess that he tried to start. So yea, Shaq can keep the guilty praise to himself, now that the late great Kobe Bryant is resting in peace. 🪦 🙏

Shaq was the most dominate at his position, if you didn't see prime Shaq play you would not understand the physical specimen this man was. Nobody could guard him due to his size, quickness, power, and meanness. However Kobe was the best player on the court period: defense, scoring, rebounding, passing, and incredible shot making, this man did it all. Look at the centers of his era Shaq played against compared to the guards and forwards Kobe had to deal with. Shaq would not have won 3 chips without Kobe and that's a fact.

I agree, but I do have to say Shaq's skill gets a bit too underappreciated because people focus so much the things you listed. His footwork was great, while he doesn't have great numbers his passing was on point, and he had the misfortune of playing at the same time as Mutombo and Rodman, so rebound leader eluded him (he averaged nearly 14 per game one season and still came in second against Rodman). I'm not saying he was more skilled or anything, just that his skills shouldn't be overlooked because of his physical talents.

The ones who understand the game and watch it know which player is impacting the success of the team. It is usually the non-stars who even provide energy that bring out the best in the whole team and certain stars on the team. You can say the greatness of two players who are stars or superstars can motivate them to not fall behind the other which brings out the most out of the other. At the end of the day the game is about everyone on the team and sometimes more have to do with the coach too.
But when there is team success the brand of the game which is the business side will come together with owners to squeeze out every penny from the consumers. They need to put a face on the brand, and it is often where the issue comes for the really fans of the game. The marketable player may not be the best on the team, but the brands and media will keep forcing that they are by consistently screaming in our ears that they are the better player than the other one who in reality is the better hooper in our eyes.

kobe made regular season games feel like the finals, i remember he use to take over every 4th quarter during shaq years, and often win the game for them.

For those who hooped, whose team is it actually is a thing though. If you’re the man and someone comes around and challenges that, there’s gonna be issues. Shoutout to Jimmy Hughes. 8th grade champs baybay.

Imagine if they beat the pistons in 04 and kobe and shaq never separated kobe would've never gotten recognition that break up was the best thing for Kobe's legacy

Didn’t Kobe average 10 less points per game in his best finals with shaq? It was shaqs team clear as day and has thr finals mvps to prove it. What are we doing here

as most have already probably stated. From the beginning the media created the narrative that KB wasn’t as great as he was. Maybe hoping that he would one day stop being great. But as GA has stated in previous episodes it wasn’t that KB was naturally super athletic. It was he was good, while constantly challenging himself to be better. The want to be great. The need to be the best. And he kept right on elevating and elevating on his way to 5 chips, multiple all-stars,defensive first teams etc. We don’t care about his ONE regular season MVP award because if you know,he’s probably deserving of one or two MORE regular season MVP’s.

If these podcasts continue with former players having their own channel and platform they’re gonna put mainstream media out of business! I’d rather listen to this than television
