Here’s what I use: Blue - heavenly things, God’s nature or person Green - new life, the new man, what Jesus has done or is doing in us and the church Red - Jesus, his sacrifice, his ministry, his work, or prophecies about Jesus Purple - who God says the church is or who he is in us Brown - earthly things, worldly concerns, flesh Black - sin, death, the work of Satan Love the idea of marking the work of the Holy Spirit and having a generic pen
Here is what I came up with a couple months ago when looking into bible study colour coding: Purple - Jesus (wherever His name appears) and prophecy of Jesus (fulfilled filled-in in corresponding passages )) Blue - Judgement, justice, sin, disobedience, wrath of God, the fall, satan, the spiritual forces of evil Pink- righteousness, the Gospel, Grace, mercy, promises, covenant, hope, love, joy, Gods Kingdom, repentance, faith and miracles. Green - verses I have memorized or am actively memorizing Orange: Servant of the Lord Characteristics/Witness, The church, Identity as a child of God, Inheritance, instructions to the body of the church. Yellow - topical study of choice (currently: The Law) + the words of Jesus (New Testament) Red pen underline - Attributes of God It’s simple but really impactful and focuses on the Gospel, who God is and the great commission (evangelism) which should be at the core of every Christian’s bible reading.
I color code too. What I discovered is Crayola Twistable crayons. They don’t bleed through. They’re thin like a pencil. And you can erase them if you make a mistake. You can also underline and use a pen over them.
Love this advice. I agree about doing what's natural. I think it's helpful to first do a test run to see how you naturally tend to interact with scripture--whether it's wanting 10 colors or 3 or circles or underlines. For example, a lot of recommended systems included themes that I don't care about emphasizing when reading ( like joy/prophecy/faith), so figuring out what I do gravitate toward FIRST (like repeat words/Holy Spirit/commands/promises) has been instrumental!
I love watching your videos about marking your Bibles. I have trouble doing it because I was taught in school not to mark up the pages. But I have done it in the past. I like the inductive study method, but I don't mark everything like they do, it just makes the page look too busy if every time God is mentioned in any form the page is marked. I love your enthusiasm over the Word of God. I have come to love his word over the years.
I do gold for Jesus/God I do bright yellow for the foundation verses like John 3:16 I do Orange the the 12 disciples I do green for places/locations and I do purple for miracles
I’m always impressed by people who can write in their Bibles and have good systems. Unfortunately, I have a huge aversion to writing in books, including Bibles
The Staedtler does not bleed through in my Bibles. The ink drys quickly on the paper but the pens do not. They have a steel shaft supporting the nub. I think you would like them.
@jasonmayfield excellent video. Could you add to this video and show us methods of how you mark in a thinline bible differently compared to a bible with wide margins. I love the box method on wide margin bibles but I have yet to find a functional way to mark in a thinline where its not a mess and has a purpose to it.
Hey brother good video, if you ever want to look into a Study Bible, I recommend the ESV Fire Bible. It is Pentecostal leaning but it has so many good things in it. My favorite thing is the 80+ articles all through the Bible.
Man, I like watching your videos because your English is excellent for me! I'm Brazilian 🇧🇷 and that's why I only speak Portuguese (Portuguese language) and your videos, in real time, I understand 99.9% of what you're saying with just my basic English... I'm glad it's not Spanish because I just don't I understand absolutely nothing about that other language, despite the fact that most Americans think that Brazilians speak Spanish, which is very far from the truth...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Americans speak "English"; Brasilians speak "Portuguese".
No one really told me about the meaning of the colors I just grab the first color pencil and mark my Bible, I feel like a dummy, but thanks for sharing that video
I definitely agree with doing what’s natural to you. I don’t do a color code system because it’s not natural to me. A system like that seems like an unnatural division of truth to me, because I’d always find the connections between categories that break the system. For a good number of my notes, I link between different topics in the same note, and sometimes my notes are so long that I don’t know where I’ll end up, making the note impossible to categorize from the start. I have a note or two where pink and blue information are together in a single note, for example. I guess I see knowledge in a web and not boxes. (I am a guy. That clip of “men see in boxes women in a web” isn’t true.) When I’m writing notes in my physical Bible, I just make stuff different colors to differentiate notes/series of notes from each other. So if a note on one verse is in black, the nearest one will be a different color. That way I know which notes are for which. I also place notes near verses or underline/box/bracket/footnote the relevant section.
Great video. I think though that God has wired us differently. I love watching you and Pastor Everhard on bible reviews and study methods. you guys are so very diffrent...lol. I tend to lean more toward a slightly more making a 'key system' system of study because I am wired that way. But I have people who would really benefit from your method so I push both. Like you imply it's not either-or but what works best for each person. Good work Brother!
I have a symbol for rapture. If it’s red it is directly about it. If it is blue, it is a picture of the rapture. I’m going to figure it out for other points… 🤔
Basically... just how I'm feeling. If I underline something and a particular word is critical to that underline or the note... I'll circle. If I underline more than one verse and there's a phrase that's critical... I highlight it. If I really want my attention to be drawn back... I highlight it. That's the jest of it.
Isn’t it great that two people have had similar ideas and can share their different perspectives so we benefit. In fact, there are even more examples from other people on RUclips so we’re even more richly blessed.
We both have a tendency to release similar things in proximity to one another. Sometimes he's first, sometimes I am. But I promise... we do not coordinate.
I remember watching a color coded video and the woman highlighted nearly every single sentence. It seems pointless to highlight every single line, you may as well not highlight any of it.
HELLO SIR, I HAVE BEEN WATCHING SO MANY VIDEOS ABOUT CRPTO AND FOREX TRADE INVESTMENT BUT YET I'M STILL MAKING LOSSES TRADING ON MY OWN, PLEASE CAN YOU GIVE ME A GOOD STRATEGY OR AT LEAST ADVICE ON HOW TO MAKE GOOD PROFIT THROUGH INVESTING
The videos on this channel make me want to Bible study in a journaling Bible. I love it. This is a good channel.
Here’s what I use:
Blue - heavenly things, God’s nature or person

Purple - who God says the church is or who he is in us
Brown - earthly things, worldly concerns, flesh
Black - sin, death, the work of Satan

Such a logical colour arrangement..

finally an updated vid about your color coding system! I've been waiting a year.
“I got a little bit of grace, a little bit of money!” Same, brother. Same. 😂
Great Mayfield minds, think alike! I have, a much similar system, in My study HOLY-books! Well-Done Cousin! :)
Thank you! 🙏
I watched the video from 2 years ago and then this one, and the difference in basically everything is staggering.
Great work man, keep it up.
Thank you for sharing this! Love it! Looking forward to 2.0 WooHoo!

The Staedtler triplus fine liner pens are great for underling, notes and evening drawing. You can get 20 different colors for less than $20.00.
The Staedtler does not bleed through in my Bibles. The ink drys quickly on the paper but the pens do not. They have a steel shaft supporting the nub. I think you would like them.
I also use blue for grace 🤩

Thanks Jason very helpful
Wow! Thanks so much!!!
🗯Thanks for showing us how you color code!🗯
Thanks Jason very inspiring

*pink and blue according to your code. These notes aren’t long ones either I don’t think.
I use the Color Code System only to focus on the grammar.
I just wanted to watch a guy talk about colors.... :)
Very helpful thank you so much. I love all your videos
