I love my 6mm arc! I have a Sgt of Arms AR, with a T-Box carbon fiber wrapped barrel, JP Enterprises bcg with silent capture buffer, and a adjustable gas block. If you're going to suppress any gun I suggest those last 2 things, especially on a 6mm ARC. Heavier buffer and choke down the gas, will take care of your suppressor issues. I run a DeadAir Sandman L on mine, with no issues, after I tuned it. Even my .223 Wylde AR, I did the same thing. Not only did it tame the bcg, but it helps tighten the group, and extend your brass usage, for reloading. This are just my suggestions, especially if you're looking at a suppressed 6mm arc.

I see signs and have great hope that 6arc keeps gaining the popularity it deserves and that ammo manufacturers realize this and increase production. The 6arc is the way forward for the AR 15 style rifle. It has had a slow start since its beginning but I hear more and more talk about it in the last 2 years especially lately.

@@jjgriffin3275 At long range it carries more energy than 308. It beats 243 hands down at range. Most 243 rifles cannot use the high bc bullets 6 arc is using, the twist is wrong. 308 can use pretty high bc bullets, but by the time you get into the .6 bc range you're looking at something like a 200 grain ELD-X. So yes, unless a 308 is using very special ammo it's going to beat it out in the 600+ yard range and it's going to beat 243 out past 300-400 yards every time.

To realize the full benefits of 6mm ARC you really do need to get a barrel from a truly "match" manufacturer. I like Ballistic Advantage for my general purpose 5.56 builds but their QC is super inconsistent and I rarely get exceptional accuracy from them. They don't replace their rifle buttons on the correct interval so the tooling leaves a lot of inconsistencies in their barrels. Some batches are good, some are crap. Your mileage will vary.

  • @toyrobotus
    @toyrobotus Год назад

I don’t comment much but I’m pretty sure I disagree with about everything you said. Not trying to be a Negative Nancy but I hate to see someone lose faith in the future of this round when it’s actually doing everything right. First of all I can buy ammo for around $20/box all day. The same ammo you were shooting. New 6MM stamped Starline brass is $60/100 and several die sets are now available for reloaders.
Secondly, there are now several (with more joining) companies making quality barrels. I just bought a backup Faxon match barrel for the short side of $250, although my original barrel was less than that and shoots lights out at distance, which around here is limited to the 700’ mark within a 3 hour drive.
The ballistics of this round PAST 700’ is the important part for choosing this round, I mean it was developed and built for exactly that characteristic and will do more than punch a hole in paper at that distance: it will drop any whitetail or hog.
Another great thing is you can still use .223 for short range practice and get pretty much the same experience as you would with your 6arc for about half the price per round. It’s not going to give inexperienced/unskilled shooters instant anything , 😂except maybe a new hole in their wallet. The AR platform for a round of this performance allows for a shooter to just buy or even build just an upper/barrel setup (and some magazines) to swap with their .223/5.56 when hunting season comes, and being legal for deer in any state that isn’t “straight wall cartridge only” only makes this round the perfect choice for lots of people, amateur and pro alike.
Thanks for putting up the content regardless. We all have our opinions and it’s important to respect that. Cheers

Honestly, I'm not sure what anyone expects when they have a "hodgepodge" built rifle. You get what you pay for. Accuracy isn't cheap.
Mine isn't the most expensive rifle on the planet but it has done ok. Complete aeroprecision 24" upper (.936" barrel) sitting on top of a silencer co lower with geissele super match trigger with the jp rifles silent capture spring buffer setup. With factory brake and factory ammo it would shoot just under 1 MOA at 100 yards. Handloading with a erik cortina tuner/brake it was around .750" avg. Could it be better? Maybe. We'll find out with the new barrel and matching upper to the lower.
I think the biggest problem is folks are unrealistic about their expectations honestly. For a "combat" carbine 1.5"-2" groups at 100 yards and being able to hit minute of man at 300 yards is acceptable. (Look up accuracy requirements of mil spec rifle/carbines.) If a person wants more (especially out of a gas gun) then they really need to get specific and build a purpose built rifle.
6 ARC is a fantastic cartridge for the AR15 platform.

Homie didn’t include information like his buffer weight, gas port size, or twist rate on the barrel. Those could all be factors for the inaccuracy. What’s the head spacing? You built a rifle, it didn’t function well, and you immediately go after the round? Bro you’re using all of the cheapest/worst magazines on the market too. Of course it’s not going to feed well. I had a similar experience to you with a Ballistic Advantage barrel (16" SPR profile stainless 6mm ARC). Accuracy was mediocre, and the barrel was terribly overgassed. I ditched the BA barrel and swapped it for a Proof Research stainless, and it was a significant improvement. Accuracy was much improved, and the rifle became much easier to tune with a can. It's worth noting that Proof uses a Rifle length gas system on their 16" ARC barrel, vs BA's midlength. Proof worked with Hornady during the initial development of the cartridge, and seem to have tailored the chamber and gas system to Hornady's factory ammunition.

My concern is that the established options have too great a piece of the market and do well enough that the marginal performance increases you'll realize with the new cartridges just aren't worth the price premium you pay, and manufacturers need larger scale to lower costs and pass the savings on to you. If you're paying with taxpayers' dollars and have open engagements where your opponents know your effective range, I can understand it might be appealing, but I'm very much not that guy.

You want to keep the scope as close to the top of the rifle without touching the objective. It allows for faster acquisition. Throw that mono mount away, and get rings( NightForce) that leave you around a 1/16" clearance under your front objective. Watch your shooting improve. You're welcome.

Hope I see better accuracy out of my barrel but I can always swap that down the road to a criterion or maybe even a proof but mine isn’t meant to be a bench rifle. The point of mine is a lighter weight rifle that can do more damage and reach out to longer ranges than a typical 5.56 rifle and I think the 6arc should do that well. Still, I’d want at least 1moa accuracy

I absolutely love my 6arc, I get 1/2in and better at 109yards. And on my backyard range that extends to 420y I can consistently hit a 1in dot. It has a ballistics advantage 18in 1in7 rifle length gas system and a cmc 2.5lb flat trigger.

I don't give a rats ass about popularity. The 6MM ARC in my Aero Precision M4E1 is as good or better in real close than the M4 or the M1 Carbine. It exceeds the M4 and M1 at much longer ranges. Accuracy is outstanding, recoil is very manageable and wind drift is a significant improvement as is energy on target.

I'm doing a 6.5 Grendel build right now instead of arc but that is partially because I want to reload for it and 6.5 creed and I can use some of the bullets in both guns that way. I also like the increased energy delivered at closer ranges as its not till farther out that 6 arc really shines.

Have built three 6ARC's, 22", 20", and an 18" all of which have been sub moa with factory loads as well as my handloads. I did put an adjustable gas block on the 18" ARC which helped when shooting suppressed. Any gas gun can be twitchy when adding a suppressor so can't really fault the caliber for that. Maybe I've been lucky but that really doesn't follow my history, if I have a 50/50 chance I'm wrong 90% of the time.

At that time I was purchasing 6mm Arc HD Black 105 BTHP at $1.16 per round in 100 to 200 round lots from multiple sources with minimal shipping Since then it has drifted more into the $23-24 per box/20 but I see already coming back down. I am disappointed with my exact same BA 16" barrel (cheeeeep not premium in any way!) getting similar MOA as you just reported. I suspect both a big variance than should be with the above ammo and a super cheep barrel as the reason. However, surprisingly, not bad at 200y-300 that I have access to with little drop and seemingly better MOA. Not sure how that works.

putting together a bit of a "parts i had laying around" gun and then poo-pooing the accuracy of a cartridge well known for accuracy isn't something i would put a lot of stock in for perspective 6arc purchasers. everything else, though, is dead on. it's expensive, hard to get, it could be a dead cartridge in a few years, and it really really really does not make a compelling case for itself vs 6.5grendel for 98% of people out there. if you ONLY wanna ring steel at a thousand...sure. if you're going to be shooting meaty things or care at all about the economics of shooting generally... most definitely not. before the evil rooskie ammo ban (and presumably again at some point in the future when we get a non-douche president) you could get wolf military classic 6.5grendel for like 27c a round. you ain't ever gonna see any 6arc for less than a buck a pop.
