This paddle is the most technically advanced paddle we have seen in pickleball. The power and feel the paddle creates is nothing short of extraordinary. Ben discusses the engineering of the paddle, the speed of the game, eye protection, and why he has so much fun playing against Jack Sock.

This is my favorite interview with Ben Johns. What a bright, likeable, brilliantly talented young man.
Thanks
Will Anna Bright take Anna Leigh’s spot after this LA tournament

Fun ! Thank you !
This was such an amazing interview regarding player safety. I think Ben knows that power paddles aernt good for the public, he most likely knows where the limit should be, but he has to use what benefits the pros the best.
I think Collin would and could say more about limits of paddles and what should be allowed.
Please keep doing these interviews. Pro pickleball make up such a small percentage of the player base, we need to think about amateurs first and amateur player safety first.
I am a little concerned with the gen 3 paddles going to the public. My fear is we are going to see a lot more eye injury’s, I hope this isn’t the case. I started wearing safety glasses a couple months ago and got my mom in on it too, just in case. Only got one set of eyes
I love the conversations about pickleball paddle strength, especially from Ben Johns who has an engineering degree. What’s crazy to me is why USA Pickleball wouldn’t just implement Coefficient of Restitution and a Characteristic Time limits. Those are pretty straight forward metrics to limit speed and spin instead of this “pushing the limit and then scaling it back”.
I’m afraid that the window of time where paddles are too hot and unrestricted will go on for longer than it should when we do hit the upper threshold.
Agree with Ben that there should be a separate limit for the Pro game and amateur games. The Pro game should be as competitive and entertaining as possible
Tennis balls go faster and will damage the eye more, but no eye protection used there, that I've noticed. It's a sport with an element of risk. Most sports can be dangerous! Maybe for some folks eye protection is a sensible option.
What a decent bloke.
Great point, the eyewear sends the wrong signal because the game has gotten too fast and hard. Put on the breaks!
question is why does every joola prototype that other pros ( Tyson"s Magnus, Ana bright, lea Jansen, sound significantly different to the ones that ben and Colin use? Different internal mechanics than the Perseus? Similar hollow non poly honeycomb core to Gearbox pro paddle?. We will find out tmw. Im hearing they are even harder hitting then the gearbox pro paddles, with that same deep hollow sound.
I don’t think you’ll ever get an answer, but my assumption is they have still been using the core of the Gen 2 with the Gen 3 surface
Lead tape differences?
Ben and Collin are still using the old models but with the new cosmetics on them. Heard the at from a close source
@@andrewwinters6256 Can confirm that this is true as well.
John, is it the ball compressing more or the paddle face/core compressing more?
Core compressing more
Am I the only one that couldn't care less if someone hits me with a ball at any speed lol?
I'm sorry, these are some boring questions to be asking the goat, paddle shapes and names geez.
$280 for a plastic paddle is insane. Idiots will buy anyways
brokie
This interviewer needs to drop that activist garbage. He clearly has a voice, so he can be this voice for eye protection and quit harassing Ben.
I for one appreciated the interviewer's angle.
The interviewers take on eye protection worn by pros is horrible. Trust me I could hit janice in the eye with a wooden paddle. People are drilling a hard wiffle ball around. Many face hits I have witnessed are off deflections from players own or partners paddle which has nothing to do with paddle power. Everyone should where protective eyewear in pickleball period. Just like wearing a helmet on bike or seatbelt in car. If your super good, yeah it’s he odds are low but i just saw Ben got hit in face off his own paddle a couple weeks ago. Literally done following the his channel or instagram content after this interviewers comments.
I had zero idea you could get injured playing a sport! Yep, we should not allow pickleball to be played any longer, far too dangerous.
no one has EVER suggested we not be able to play pickleball. some are saying power should be limited by regulation.
