Memory loss subject matter emotionally hurts me so when you might also be removing my top dog from the cast....Double pain!! See my full uncut live reaction to the episode over on Patreon www.patreon.com/BrandonReviews
The sadness on Himmel’s eyes when he realized he would put Frieren through the same thing as the old dwarf…interspecies romance usually doesn’t touch the subject of one partner living on,but that is the one thing that I find depressing of pairings such as this.
I’m so glad this has two cours, with all great anime ending,it’s nice to have my favorite from the season keep going for a while more
The author slowly keeps adding layers to Himmel and Frieren's relationship, it's great
Voll's memory might be fading but his heart never forgets 😢
When Yoll brought up the Demon King, you can tell it hit Frieren hard.
Yeah that is when she know that he was senile for real and did not fake it😢
Yeah 🥲
I was hanging in there until That moment. It just came out of Nowhere BECAUSE we believed Frieren when she thought he was pretending to be senile...
Even when the villager said that Old Man Voll was senile, we still took it as "dude is so pro that he has fooled everyone into thinking he is senile"...
And then reality hits...and it's so shocking...and heartbreaking...
Not just for Frieren, but for us as well, because we are told the story, from Her Perspective...
What a beautiful Masterpiece of storytelling. Truly the Anime of the Year - 2023.
Yeah, we all took Frieren's words to face value cause we've seen this from her perspective in the past and present. Still hits hard though.
It hit me hard too like it genuinely hurt.
Just as they hype us all with the confession and the ring, they slap us right back to reality on how tragic interspecies love can be. The author really can’t give himmel a break
When Frieren said she’ll carry Volls memory forward……right in the feels……this show is just so damn good.
Fern and Stark are comfortable with each other now. Especially Fern doesn't look at him with disgusted eyes. They cooking. So let them cook
Indeed with the next episode.
@@Mr.WestcottXsomething good happenes between them next ep?
@@TanvirAhmed-bz2oxwell...can't wait for it, then.
Man I really hope there'll be a happy ending for Sein and Gorilla Warrior, it feels likely it'll be a sad conclusion. Sein will probably follow his path, hearing how well Gorilla spoke about him, how they'll be great memorable heroes who go on adventures together to then finally finding out Gorilla passed away or can't go on adventures at all if he's alive. But I'm hoping that isn't the case and they'll finally be able to go on that long-awaited adventure.
I also really hope for a happy ending for them but fear for the possibilities
Kraft having been a warrior before becoming a priest as we met him is interesting
Apart from the last chapter of "One Piece", "Frieren" continuing into 2024 is a great Christmas present. I just saw that old dwarf man sitting on the rock as they're leaving and I was like "He better not be dead on that rock".
I loved how they explored the depth of character and world building using memory. Such a nice its a great perspecrive that is universally understood, and easily empathised with, which is why the show keeps providing wins for me 😊
Mama Fern had to put her foot down otherwise they actually would've been there for a decade.
if that dwarf managed to live another 10 years and fern didn't stop her they deadass would be there a decade lmao
It’s kind make sense that the priest have to go separate ways because his true purpose to find his a friend to go adventure but it’s gonna be sad when we come back from break.
For real.
Time and time agiain the adaptation just gives the story so much more life from the brilliant writing and pacing of the manga. Like how the soundtrack during Grandpa Voll's story made me sob even more than it originally did, and how Sein's expression at the very end of the episode tells so much of how he feels about having to make a decision between what has been the important goal for his journey vs having to part with something he feels is precious (which he doesn't admit out loud but it clearly SHOWS).
As someone with aging parents, that one scene hit me real hard.
Edit: What is the best Frieren episode? I don't think there is a best or worst one, they are all equally leagues beyond almost any other current series.
I bet 😢
i say that everytime I watch an ep, each ep I feel like can be considered the best given how amazing every story beat turns out
Sein has been such a cool character and he left a such great mark in the show despite the fact that he wasn't around for all that long.
Old man Voll's story was heartbreaking as well. It reminded me of what happened to one of my mother's friends who suffered memory loss before her death. From what I remembered, she thought she was back in her teenage years in Vietnam with my mother before she died... despite being in Houston, Texas.
I studied history and the whole people forgetting past heroes is something I never really thought about but it made me realize about how despite the big names of history being easily remembered, many of the people that worked with them are forgotten except for some extremely niche research.
Boy did I cry when I read this chapter
So many shows and movies try to do inter-generational parallel storylines and they all fall flat for me, and then Frieren comes along and bangs out one or even two of them every single episode, making it look easy.
Great episode that really got us thinking. As all of your deeds and even the memory of you will one day fade from memory. Making it so that people may not even know if you existed at all. Is not really a pleasant thought but that make it hit all the more harder. Especially as the dwarf already have mostly forgotten about the most important person in his life. Also now the pressure is on Frieren to keep the memory of her companions alive. Which I felt like she now know the weight of.
Also Sein’s childhood friend idea of having Gorilla as his name to easier be remembered was funny. As was that stubborn old lady which even called herself for a stubborn old lady. But I also laughed quite a bit when Fern said that they had not been able to make her open up. Because they all are so socially awkward aka they did not invest in their charisma lol. So a great episode even if it will lead to Sein leaving the party next episode
For real
Damn straight! Frieren is the GOAT.
Any haters are just salty they can't come up with something that compares.
But yeah, seeing our man Goaty (rolls of the tongue) contemplate leaving is a punch to the gut, but ultimately loyal to the premise of the story.
For Frieren's story is a tale of meetings and partings, and the valuable times in-between. A story about memories, about keeping them alive, and passing them on as a tale. Because within stories, memories live forever...
...even if Forever is but a moment.
And like you said, if Sein leaves, they might still meet him again, somewhere ahead. Same with Grandpa Dwarf.
Oh, man, even just thinking about him still makes my eyes sting. Way to make a character memorable, more's the irony considering his tale.
If Frieren and the gang meet him up at Aureole... just imagine the tales they would exchange!
That's the kind of story this is. A story about stories, and how they live on and fade away.
Because
All occurs but one time only,
Once if it is to come what may,
And faraway in the blooming fields,
It must pass, and fade away.
- Uyulala, the Voice of Silence (The Neverending Story, the book. The movie did not happen. Period).
Does it even have any haters? I don’t think I’ve read or heard anyone say something negative about it. The show is just so good
@@paulr.9029 The twitter crowd that exists to try and destroy good stories.
If it was up to Frieren, I think she wouldn't mind the detour, but that again comes down to time. A few extra years is nothing for her, but it's everything to Fern and Stark. I would really love to see Sein find his friend. On the otherside of that, maybe they will seperate and Sein will run into Kraft and they'll travel together for awhile. I'm just guessing. I think Kraft was going South, so I doubt that'll happen. Either way, I'm excited to see what happens next! I love this show so much!
Frieren is peak fiction.
I was also thinking this might be foreshadowing. There might be a new 'demon king.'
it's either Stark's brother or gorilla warrior lol
I don’t think so. It’s just to show he’s actually senile now. Frieren saw this and had a sad look for quite a while. She knows she’s about to lose another friend
This was a great episode of Frieren imho and a good way to end Frieren's 1st cour. I'm looking forward to Sein's decision. I kind of think he should at least accompany Frieren's party to the city with the magic academy that they are going to, then he can join a different party going east to Tor to search for his friend--I think travelling alone to Tor is probably not the best idea even if there's not as many demons around anymore.
6:50 Heiter confirmed to not think Frieren is a masterpiece.
Masterpiece for sure, love this anime.. 👏 ❤
I have to say, Voll has all my respective for keep his promise for 400 years 😌
In my opinion, Sein might leave the party temporarily for finding his best friend 🤔
Just hope it won't end in a tragic way 🙏🏼

Frieren currently still rated a 9.12 over the former #1 Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Not just best of the year, but best anime ever according to general consensus.
That changes every 3 months mal scores mean nothing
