I'm a total Potterhead, and I saw the movies before I read the books unfortunately. But when I hear this song I can only relate it to growing up and trying to handle being independent, saying good bye to childhood, and fighting not to be judged in a way you're subjected to when you're no longer a kid.
This scene always gives me goosebumps. I don't know why, but it was very real to me, and this song just makes it more deep. Harry Potter is my childhood, and I've grown up with it. This song just goes perfectly with this scene, how they are growing up and aren't children anymore. They were kind of forced into adulthood, and they didn't have normal childhoods. The ending especially is so powerful.
This song is so powerful in that scene between Harry and Hermione. Hermione was sad when Ron left and Harry just wanted her to forget just for a minute all the misery and hardships they were going through together. They both have fun and its beautiful and for one moment they forget the darkness and sorrow of their world. I think it also emphasises just how powerful friendship actually is.
this song gives me the feeling of dead children taking the train to heaven and telling their mom that they are going to a better place so she shouldnt worry.
I first heard this in the HP-movie, like so many else, and thought it was a sweet, cathcy, realxing song to slow dance to. But since I started to actually listen to the lyrics and realizing the meaning of this song, I've stopped associating it with Harry Potter and instead I see before me work camps, huge ovens made to burn people, soldiers marching to their deaths and trains packed with men, women and... children. I can't listen to this without crying my eyes out.
One of the best scenes in the entire franchise. Such a beautiful moment between Harry and Hermione. Even though they're "just friends" I thought they had some lovely chemistry.
Idk y i'm so obsessed with this song. I think the scene in the movie just shows that Harry and Hermione are friends and that at some point Harry is just like, "Why don't we take a break from all this crap that's going on" and that' actually why I'll never see harry and hermione as more than just best of friends.
I think it's great they added this dance in the movie. The song totally fits the series, actually. You see, they were only children, children who grew up too fast, faster than they should have, because of what fate decided them to be. But they grew up together. At this time, when their best friend Ron leaves, it's as if they were lonely children again : alone and vulnerable. They are carrying the whole world on their shoulders. See, I know what people think about couples in HP, but the trio, according to me, is more important than this : it's a being itself. So, when a part of it is missing, everything goes wrong. Harry and Hermione, here, are like children without dreams, without wonders, and full of regrets. So, yes, I do believe Ron is a part of the general chemistry, and I think of Hermione as Harry's sister, nothing else. For me, Rowling never made any mistake in her story on this point (or on any else either, but that's my opinion). When I closed the last book for the first time, I wasn't upset about any detail in the books, I was just upset because it was, you know... over. By the way, the real meaning of the song, at the beginning, is about Orpheus, and his remorse about his dead wife... It's also about losing innocence. We have to admit, those three never had a truly happy childhood. It's too late when they realize they're already grown up. But, as Hermione said : "There was time to turn back if we wanted to. We've had time, haven't we ?" So, I believe everything's okay, at last :) Sorry, for that - truefan - moment.
I don't know. I actually really appreciate what Rowling did with these two characters. I find their chemistry stronger as friends. It's because, in my eyes, they're both the *real* protagonists of this series. Ron could be one, if you're generous. But really. I think alot of us would acknowledge him as a side-character; though people might not want to admit it. Yet that's exactly why this is a better way to express these characters. While everyone expects the two heroes of the story to end up in the happy cliche relationship, Rowling was able to have them show a more complex yet enticing friendship that's less than lovers but more than friends. To me, its makes a far more captivating story that draws upon a certain realism within a fantasy world. Whenever they are together, its seems to be that they have a chemistry as rather amateur heroes finding their way in the world, rather than as a glorious knight and damsel saving one another. It would be boring if they predictably ended up together like some fairy tale, despite all the elements of realistic characterization embedded into the story. Its a good mark of a storyteller to me. For one to express a world as it one sees it, rather than by the whims of someone else is alot more respectable. And now I'm going to hide this comment from people I know out of embarrassment, as I realize I've become part of this fanbase and being way too old to be typing this pretentious drama... ._. Bye.
I have nothing against HarryxGinny and RonxHermione. Its just to me, HarryxGinny was just random and RonxHermione seem forced. When I look at HarryxHermione, its just feels right. All three are the protagonists. Someone said something about not having two of the main characters dating but is wrong. If so, Ron and Hermione wouldn't be a couple. And when you said that Rowling showed a more complex yet enticing friendship that's less than lovers but more than friends, in all honesty, the whole friends with benefits popped into my mind. Maybe that is why Rowling didn't let them kiss because I believe if they did, they would be together from the moment they kiss til the end of the series.
I always saw Hermione and Ron as equally important. But other than that I agree with you. They both played unique roles as Harry's friends, and I think I would have been upset if Harry ended up with Hermione.
now with this song I understand the fear to harry and hermione they were in a war a war!! I mean we do not know what is that, and the were only a children, and their world could be finished in that moment, and they have to be strong and grow I don 't know but I love it, the scene, the frienship (unbroke), the song, everything I love it
Thats an ignorant statement. I didn't cry. I didn't cry when my friend died either. I _did_ feel sad, very much so. Not everyone cries when they are sad.
Oh great, now I've played this song several times in a row, my mood changing gradually each time. I started out being happy, now I have tears in my eyes.. Whenever I hear this beautiful song for the rest of my life I will think of Harry Potter and his story every time
I've had this song in my head since I watched HP & the DH several days ago. Beautiful song and perfect for the scene in which Harry tries to cheer up Hermione by getting her to dance with him. That said, I see some talk about Harry and Hermione regarding the nature of their relationship and feel the need to throw in my two cents. For me, personally, they aren't just friends. I say this not because I think either has the slightest romantic inclination towards the other but because I feel like Harry and Hermione see each other as the sibling they never had. Harry grew up with his cousin, Dudley, of course, but he's never experienced a sibling relationship like Ron has with all of his brothers and sister. Hermione also grew up an only child. So not only are they best friends who depend on and value each other, they've developed the deeper bond of siblinghood that they've never had with anyone else. And that is my two cents.
+Rachel Bowman I agree ! Because we all know Hermione is dead in love with Ron, but just the way she acts with Harry... There's something deeper there than friendship.
I totaly agree with you. Ih one théorie that I had was that Hermione could be Harry's sister. The first child of Lily and James. And that could be totaly possible. But she talks to Harry as he was her littele brother, and she protects him, and she tries to save him, always. So yeah, I agree with you. And she talks about Harry's parents as if she know them like '' They would not like what you're doing '' like in the prisoner of Azkhaban.
If anyone actually understands the meaning behind this magical song, I feel you. This song is deeper than Harry Potter but the context helps you understand which is why I cry every time. It's my absolute favorite scene.
Listening to this song in the 7th movie, litterly moved me completly. I don't know how. and why but this song is as magical as the Harry Potter and his adventures
To be fair Ron really got mistreated as the movies went on. After chamber of secrets his character went out the window, all of his good lines were given to other characters and they just kept him in the films because he needed to be there, and tried to make him some sort of laugh appeal by always freaking out.
I think I've heard this song more than 300 times, I used to listen it for 4 hours a day, I did that for 2 months, now I hear it again and it's just amazing
This song makes me wanna cry. :') Those two only had each other at the part this song is played. They were both hopeless. Even that they were just friends Harry took her for a dance to make her feel better. That's really touching.
I understand each and every Harry Potter fan here. I too, was raised on these books and films. I am probably one of the hugest fans. I have spent half of my life gathering different posters and stickers and sticking them to my wall. even now, they're still there and I will never take them off. They keep so many memories! And this song is something that makes me cry and smile at the same time and to look back and say "I am proud to have lived this life and connected it with Harry Potter".
Harry Potter is magical..... I have grown up with it. It has been a huge part of my childhood. I am deeply saddened as the end nears. This song spoke to me from the first time I heard it in theaters. I can never stop listening to it. I feel that this song was perfect for part 1 of the last movie. It fits like a glove. I have cried multiple times when listening to this. The pure emotion of this marvelous story never fails to astound me. Peace. Love. Harry James Potter.
These books and films have taught me so many important lessons. Thanks to J.k for making this amazing thing happen i wont ever forget. I wont ever complain of a 4 hour train delay when you made it up there. Thanks for an amazing ride i just never want it to end :/
Well, I'm back. The feels are overwhelming me again. I literally just listened to this once and I wanna go and read all the books and watch all the films all over again... :')
whenever i listen to this song or see the clip in the movie my stomach gets a weird hollowness about it and my face twists up. its painfully beautiful!
Must have this on my iPod NOW. This song is so sad, but beautiful. I'm 20 years old and I've grown up with Harry Potter as well. I've never realized until now how sad it's going to be when it's all over.
This (and of course, a fair few other songs) has to be the most beautiful song I have heard. The music is just amazing. The lyrics add to it. And with the scene this was played with.... made it even better.
One year ago, i went to this video as soon as i started reading the final Harry Potters and I never read a page of that book with that song playing. I can't believe it's over...I miss it already, Potter Forever.
I had a best friend who I was in love with and always wanted to dance to this with......we did. and it was beautiful. Then we got in a argument and haven't seen nor talked in almost 2 years.....this song/scene makes me cry and miss them more.....I mean, they were my first love, this was practically our song and dance.....
+Sadie Brooke That happened to me as well. Ya know the saying "it's better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all"? Well that someone has obviously never tried it because it still hurts. :(
I feel like peoples ideas on Harry-Hermione and Harry-Ron argument depends on if you read the books or not (which you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't). It's explicit from literally like the second/third book that Ron and Hermione are going to be a thing, and their chemistry is much better. The movies however, since the focus is wholly Harry, Ron is less dynamic and the relationship he has with Hermione is reduced. Harry and Hermione on the other hand are the epitome of BEST FRIENDS. People just think that a guy and girl can't have that relationship without being lovers for some reason. I don't think this scene is about what could've been. It was BFF Harry trying to cheer up BFF Hermione. Their lives suck, the whole wizarding world's safety relies on them, Ron's gone. So for a second they are kids having fun again because they still are only 18. But that won't last forever, they have to go back to reality. And that's why the dancing ends. Not because they were going to snog.
Charizarzar I believe Hermione and Harry honestly were meant to be together and to me that dance signifies what could have and should have been. I saw the look too. Wish it did happen.
"Snog" British people. Lol. I totally agree. You probably posted this like 5 years ago, I didn't look at the date, but my thoughts exactly! It's just like the movie doesn't really capture Draco and Hermione's one sided relationship. I don't ship Dramione, but Draco loving her and her not acknowledging it is part of his character. So yeah. Have a nice day.
disasterzstruck me too when I first watched the sorcerers stone I thought they would be together. And I was thinking it would be cool if J.k. Rowling would make books of like of their children's years at hogwarts that would be cool
this song really really works for harry potter as a whole. "hey little train! we're all jumping on" (hogwarts express), "I once was blind, but now I see" (harry not knowing about his being a wizard), "stretch of imagination" (coming to believe in this other world of wizards) "process of elimination" (having to kill voldemort or die trying), "lift up your voice" (the students having to rise against evil) and more..and the song is even called "O Children", and the story is about all these kids
The train... The end of the song is related to the train, which has one of the most noticeable role in Harry Potter. It wasn't just a sort of the transport, but a place for Harry, Hermione and Ron to discuss the most important things which played a great role in the whole book. Rowling started creating her masterpiece in the train. It was inspirational for the author too.
I think this song is perfect for this scene it express Harrys need for a deep bond with someone while at the same time it is character building and develops harry and hermiones realashionship it socks that Ron is such a flat character
A Nick Cave song in a children's movie. My mind has just been blown away temporarily. Now I wonder what the reaction people who are just now exposed to his music will have when they hear other songs by him with not so "pleasant" themes.
beautiful song, and beautiful scene between harry and hermione. i miss harry potter! i read the first book at 19, and saw the last movie at 31, these books are epic.
Love the song because it was a symbol to describe harry and hermiones love for each other not in a romantic way either just simply great... and perfected. I loved the harry potter series so much and am absoulutely obssessed with it. I can't beleive it is over.
In the end,or at least until the very end, being a true potterhead isnt just a choice or happening, it was and is fate and a way of life. This is for all of you who re read the books every few months or are so touched they just sit on your dresser, read once each because that was all it took. The covers hold all the love and the chapters show you memories, and some of the pages even still hold a tear stain. This is for my Potterhead family, we really are forever guys
Agree! I miss these movies SOoooo much - am reading the series again and have been living at Hogwarts of late whenever I have a free moment away... it's awesome! :)
The most powerful, moving, beautiful, and bittersweet scene in the entire Harry Potter series.
Yes I enjoyed dancing
Couldn't have said it better myself. Poor Hermoine... That scene struck a cord in my Soul I didn't even know I had.
yess..
Absolutely agreed.
Y
I'm a total Potterhead, and I saw the movies before I read the books unfortunately. The song is about the holocaust you asshole

I'm reading a holocaust book in school and I keep thinking of this song. Kills me inside each time.
rejoice, rejoice
The lyrics arent about the holocaust
@@XxSuperSuspiciousxX its about gulags dumbass.
Wait what?
This song and the scene.....I swear it makes me emotional every time
One of the best scenes in the entire franchise. Such a beautiful moment between Harry and Hermione. Even though they're "just friends" I thought they had some lovely chemistry.
+Grace Nern For me they were more like siblings.
could not agree more
Grace Nern I agree 100%

***** I'm sorry, while I have nothing against Hinny and Ronmione I have something against HarryxCho
Yeah I see what you mean. I always thought Harry would be with Hermione. HarryxGinny and RonxHermione surprised me
Am I the only one who thinks that people are giving the scene in the movie way less credit than what it deserves?
No
No
Nope
Yes it deserves wayyy more
I'm with you
Aww im tearing up every time i'm listening to it and imagining their dancing scene~! snif snif What a great music they picked for these films!!
now with this song I understand the fear to harry and hermione they were in a war a war!! I mean we do not know what is that, and the were only a children, and their world could be finished in that moment, and they have to be strong and grow I don 't know but I love it, the scene, the frienship (unbroke), the song, everything I love it
I love this song/scene! My best friend and I always dance to it!
Bunch of thanks to David Yates for the great scene. It would be good to put the episode in the book too.
The person that didn't cry during this scene, doesn't have feelings!
Mmh, always knew I was a heartless bastard
Curious... I didn't cry, but I couldn't help but smile. I found that little tribute to Harry's and Hermione's friendship to be quite heartwarming.
Glenn Matuszewski I didn't feel anything
Thats an ignorant statement. I didn't cry. I didn't cry when my friend died either. I _did_ feel sad, very much so. Not everyone cries when they are sad.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This angered lots of people and is regarded as a bad move OMG TRIGGERED
Calling them siblings is like calling Romio juliet as siblings
You mean when Harry and Hermione seemed more real in 30 seconds than Hermione and Ron seemed in three movies...
I know what you mean :/
i totally agree.
Mel Voss So agree
To be fair Ron really got mistreated as the movies went on. hi lol he's character was always like that tho from the very start.
Nick Cave is a genius, you all should listen more than just this (trully brilliant) song!
I think I've heard this song more than 300 times, I used to listen it for 4 hours a day, I did that for 2 months, now I hear it again and it's just amazing
This song makes me wanna cry. :')
Those two only had each other at the part this song is played. They were both hopeless. Even that they were just friends Harry took her for a dance to make her feel better. That's really touching.
I danced with my boyfriend this song over and over again.... it makes me feel o so lucky to be into his arms... ♥ long life to harry potter ya`ll
this song makes me cry,i don't know why

Addictive song...I have to sleep and it's 3 am here, I have to wake up at 7 for school but this addiction doesn't let me...Love the song...
a beautiful and powerful song... i love nick cave...
This scene make me cry :') Beautiful scene and beautiful song :)
Beautiful scene in movie, The song perfect fits the series...
I'm pretty sure this was the first and only actual song by a real artist in the Harry Potter movies.
Yeah same. All their songs seem to be instrumentals.
+LYNESTAR That's a composer, right?
*****
Artists (song ones) are the people who sing or perform the song. Composers arrange the music.
+LYNESTAR Yeah no shit mate I meant song with singing. Song that isn't just a score.
+LYNESTAR Uhhhh
Harry Potter is magical..... I have grown up with it. It has been a huge part of my childhood. I am deeply saddened as the end nears. This song spoke to me from the first time I heard it in theaters. luxusní skladba a taky luxusní scénka ve filmu....to se jim fakt povedlo, úplně to chytá za srdce...
Awesome scene, awesome song.
These books and films have taught me so many important lessons. Thanks to J.k for making this amazing thing happen i wont ever forget. I wont ever complain of a 4 hour train delay when you made it up there. Thanks for an amazing ride i just never want it to end :/
I always get real sad when I hear this while watching that part in the movie :(
So now I just need someone to dance with
Same
This is so sad since it's literally Valentine's day XD (or it was one hour ago)
Don't remind me...
Well, I'm back. The feels are overwhelming me again.
I literally just listened to this once and I wanna go and read all the books and watch all the films all over again... :')
***** aw this comment is adorable :3 it made my day, thanks so much
Great song, great scene.
This song is AWESOME. The Deathly Hallows scene is really cool.
I find this song to be absolutely beautiful.

This (and of course, a fair few other songs) has to be the most beautiful song I have heard. The music is just amazing. The lyrics add to it. And with the scene this was played with.... made it even better.
My Favorite 2 mins. Scene in All Harry Potter movies!!😍
One year ago, i went to this video as soon as i started reading the final Harry Potters and I never read a page of that book with that song playing. I can't believe it's over...I miss it already, Potter Forever.
love the dance scene in the movie and the song fit in perfect! :-)
It's great that you often find awesome music because of movies and tv-shows :]
I feel bad for you guys :(
This song is so retro - loving it! Though it makes me sad and happy at the same time.

So for a second they are kids having fun again because they still are only 18. But that won't last forever, they have to go back to reality. And that's why the dancing ends. Not because they were going to snog.
I don't think it was just about a will they, won't they scenario but nobody can deny the look they gave each other after they stopped dancing.
AlexxEnglishh I hundred percent agree with you. Romione should be more promoted or explicit in the movies.
this song really really works for harry potter as a whole. "hey little train! we're all jumping on" (hogwarts express), "I once was blind, but now I see" (harry not knowing about his being a wizard), "stretch of imagination" (coming to believe in this other world of wizards) "process of elimination" (having to kill voldemort or die trying), "lift up your voice" (the students having to rise against evil) and more..and the song is even called "O Children", and the story is about all these kids
the scene where this song is played is maybe one of the most powerful, sweet and tender in the whole cinematography...
Non mi tolgo questa canzone dalla testa! Sono così da un paio di mesi ormai... è bellissima!
putting nick cave in HP was a brilliant move. love it.
When I listened this song on Harry Potter I immediately stopped the film to search for this song. And I LOVE IT!
It was inspirational for the author too.
damn nostalgia, you've gone and made me cry again
awesome series...NOW what are we supposed to do about our childhood?!?
Amazing choice of song for their dance scene.
I remember this song 😥👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I think this song is perfect for this scene it express Harrys need for a deep bond with someone while at the same time it is character building and develops harry and hermiones realashionship it socks that Ron is such a flat character
we're happy Ma, we're having fun ....
love this song !
A Nick Cave song in a children's movie. My mind has just been blown away temporarily. Now I wonder what the reaction people who are just now exposed to his music will have when they hear other songs by him with not so "pleasant" themes.
Beautiful Song for Beautiful Movie ever in the world

beautiful song, and beautiful scene between harry and hermione. i miss harry potter! i read the first book at 19, and saw the last movie at 31, these books are epic.
This scene was so powerful and moving, it shows the strength of their relationship even just as friends
A song that makes you want to forget the world struggles and just be Happy for once
Love the song because it was a symbol to describe harry and hermiones love for each other not in a romantic way either just simply great... and perfected. I loved the harry potter series so much and am absoulutely obssessed with it. I can't beleive it is over.
Only one word: ALWAYS
*goosebumps*
In the end,or at least until the very end, being a true potterhead isnt just a choice or happening, it was and is fate and a way of life. This is for all of you who re read the books every few months or are so touched they just sit on your dresser, read once each because that was all it took. The covers hold all the love and the chapters show you memories, and some of the pages even still hold a tear stain. This is for my Potterhead family, we really are forever guys
Agree! I miss these movies SOoooo much - am reading the series again and have been living at Hogwarts of late whenever I have a free moment away... it's awesome! :)
