599 US dollar is only the price of the laser head Livox MID40. So LiAir V LiDAR system from Green Valley is really good option, but you have to be careful when compare LiDAR's systems because the characteristics and performance are different in terms of range, density, returns, scan pattern, point rate, fov, precision and so on.
I will do a comparison video soon!
@@IndianaDrones Please, in this future video, if is possivel, tell us about the full paket (software also Nelson´s questions)
Yo quiero uno información por favor
I work in forestry and this could be wonderful telling what kind of tree species there are, thus being able to predict the ecotypes. and being able to recce roads without messing around with contour lines, and having to pull back lines to get across gullies.
When I heard (rightly or wrongly) that the new iPads have lidar I started thinking of applications. The backs of cars and trucks (and boats) to make cabinets and fittings. If you could just pop a lidar image and take slices right where you want to put plywood ribs, or contoured the backs of cupboards? Easy. I live in an old rickety house. If I could survey the structure under my house I might be able to, somehow...,, filter out normal variations in the wooden structure, revealing areas that are slightly out of plumb, square, and figure out what needs to be winched or jacked back into position, reinforced, etc.., The surveying ability would be great for where I live. My house sits on a 160 foot deep property that rises 50 feet. Imagine trying to optically survey that with the house in the way. Good video. It's exciting that this 'advanced tech' is now so inexpensive.
The iPad LiDAR has a very limited range - 10 ft max.
@@danstaley6179 Thanks Dan. 10 feet would be ok. I looked into it a little more. I was hoping as I said to be able to scan the back of a van or my car and then be able to layout form fitting panels and ribs and such. Not going to happen as a consumer product anytime soon.
Wow this video was incredibly well made and helpful. Thanks a ton! More civils need to see this!
Thanks Shaun! Please share, I hope we can bring a large community together!
@@IndianaDrones @Alien Drones Hey do you know of a drone that has decent night vision and decent range. Around 400-600 usd? Also I need it to do well near range so like within 50-100 feet up to be able to identify someone.

Not a fair comparison, $180k complete system, single component $500 (what did the complete system cost for the video?) +++?
Dji Lidar solution/ completed system included hub, Lidar and supported accessories can be order from their website for as low as 3k .
the newly release Livox tele-15 unit only cost $1200 plus hub $1k, other misc support accessories less than $500.
3k vs 180k still a great bargain😱😱😱
50k USD

oh, I know! We have an upcoming video with a new startup that is drastically reducing the price of the whole integration! I am really pushing the industry to reach all of us at a price and quality we can afford!
@@IndianaDrones Hello Indiana. When is this video coming out? Thank you
@@IndianaDrones Nice! Because I just purchased a Matrice 300 after 2.5 years of scrounging budget and proving that what we can produce in house is worth our own drone fleet (well just me and a mavic 2 ha ha) the next step is Lidar but the cost is insane.
@@Zero-wt7xf Have you considered the DJI Zenmuse L1? We are currently looking into it. About $35k for the entire setup: M300/L1 sensor/GPS base station, extra battery set(4 total)/case/accessories. Really your only other cost is software. We only need decent 2' contours for what we design (stream restoration/erosion control), so the L1 accuracy should work. Thoughts?
@@joshuah.9687 We just received our ROCK R2A so I am learning all I can now so I can get out in the field and have a crack.
Hello can you tell me where to Purchase this, as Green Valley is saying that they do not have $500 LiDAR system.
Its BS clickbait. The lidar head alone is over $2000
This guys are awesome. Know how to do their jobs and are very nice people. Hope more video will be done about this LIDAR. May be more about powerline inspections?
Yes! Power line inspection is coming up! Which sensor, the Riegl or the velodyne or livox???

Business loan presumably.
Id like to see a more direct comparison with the $500 and $180k. Could you fly the same area with both systems at the same elevation and compare the GSD and number of returns?
Exactly. Kit cost, not one element. And side by side, one area, both systems.

Hey man - some words of wisdom. Keep a low profile in the SF Bay Area. You will get robbed or burglarized with this gear. Robbers just shot and killed an off-duty police officer serving as security for a news crew in San Francisco. They wanted to rob them of their camera gear.
Funny you say this. My van got stolen from my driveway 3 weeks ago!!! But there is good news, it was found a couple days ago!
Almost 7 minutes of life lost while you mess around trying to show what a great video producer you are. That was over half the length of the entire video. LoL

Good morning, sir.
I represent an association of geology students in Cameroon. We wish to buy a drone equipped with LiDAR sensor and a radar sensor. Can you please advise us on what type of equipment to buy? It should be noted that we do not have large funds, but we want a fairly sophisticated system, but the least expensive possible. Can you help us in our choice? I love your videos on the different sensor systems. If you can give us all the equipment we need for good mapping at a low cost, we will be eternally grateful.
I look forward to hearing from you.

How many returns per pulse? I'd be interested to see some actual relative accuracy raster analysis of the flightline overlap.
Lukas, check it the latest video where I cover all these questions and do a walk-through of the data
Which software do you use to process the lidar data.?..
This is quite a bit misleading...
while you can buy the DJI Livox MID-40 for $599 on DJI’s website, this is not an integrated system like the system you glare comparing it to and therefore not useable unless you are an integrator that can post process the raw data.
Green Valley in the other hand is taking that sensor and doing an awesome job of fully integrating it into a fully baked LiDAR system, that while much more affordable than the competition, is far from $500 at ~$35k.
Dude, thanks because I was getting nuts, since I totally was buying the non 180k was 500 US I started searching and found not but "enquire" when I would have expected a buy now button. Usually when you see "enquire" you know its gonna be a shitton for later on go find a Green Valley vid where they say its 35K. I guess LIDAR is not yett in he hobby range.
Where is this $500.00 lidar on DJI website? I do not see anything like that.
4:08 - it did not all fit in the backpack. though you did mount the drone on the outside. and your point is impressive.
9 minutes to get to the point, and even after the conclusion was shallow, the sensor works. But how does it compare?
TODAY IS 999 USD, JUST CAME WITHE DATA TRANSFER CABLES IN THE BOX.

I'm doing it all by myself and a small team. My idea is to make a documentary while we are doing the research in the area. Would that interest you by any means? Cheers!
Not so secret now. See you there.
so you too were watching Joe Rogan and got the same idea as me... including doing a documentary at the same time. Hilarious.

Can I go find ancient ruins with this?
Thanks for sharing, Ive subscribed. In a confined enviroment or factory, it would be necessary to mount the lidar on top of the drone? Or do you simply turn the lidar upside down? (I was thinking the blades would be interference). Could you recommend the cheapest combo drone and lidar that could accurately map a confined space Ceiling to floor. It looks like your using 12d on the software? Is there anyway of getting the point cloud into blender or similar? Hope you can help.
This is a very good question. I'm working on a new very cheap solution right now... Don't want to spoil it yet 🤫 But on the market place, the prices of an integrated solution grow quickly into 50+k
@@IndianaDrones Hi, Did you managed to achieve this already?
I can’t even find the $500 drone your talking about
Great video! Thanks
are you at 1871?
Precision, degree of accuracy, tolerance? I work in the mechanical/piping trades and +/-1/8" (3.2mm) is the common error tolerance. The reason being that even at 1/8", compounding errors can be magnified and increase system stress beyond their design parameters. Safety margins are factored into the engineering, but even they have error. So things like expansion/contraction, torsion, angular deflection, misalignment etc can be extremely stressful on system components if a low error tolerance isn't specified. I'd love to use a drone like this to scan and measure facilities, but I'm very sceptical about their ability to generate reliable data within the millimeter range, especially when scaling over larger distances. Does anyone have experience using drone-based Lidar to 3D map mechanical facilities? Any advice, pros/cons, limitations that we should be aware of?
Sweet video man, do you know of any use cases where a weekend warrior with some photogrammetry / 3D mapping experience can make some side income? I'm using P4P.
There are a lot of small single day jobs in 3D modeling of realestate, for roofing companies, solar installers, etc etc. Just need to get out there and hit up their phones and share your abilities with them :)
Those are great tips, thanks a lot!

What is that software you are using to process the 3D map?.
I don't get it. are you using the liair? Isn't the green valley liair over $15,000? Where does the $500 lidar come into play and what's it called? I can only find the dji lidar rangefinder made for point and shoot cameras in that price range and there's no RUclips videos showing how the rangefinder would even work on a drone.

Great videos!
Glad you like them!
Nice video!
Yo nice vid man! I was actually thinking of using this LiDAR sensor in a my UAV system due to its low price. However, once i found out that the IMU costs way more, I ditched the idea. I was wondering if Pixhawk board's Accelerometer can be used as an IMU? If yes, will it give the same accuracy?
You can do a rough calculation. Look at the IMU precision ( degrees) and use the Pythagorean theorem with an isosceles triangle where the equal sides are the distance you wish to measure at. This will basically give you the best case scenario for accuracy... It will only go downhill from there :)
@@IndianaDrones So in that case.we gotta find a way to record the accelerometer data every few milli seconds, put it into a code and then measure the realtive position of the drone. And then tranfer that data into the LiDAR system for it to be tagged with the laser pulse? But that will have latency issues am I right? However, can this be done in post processing?
