Maybe I’m wrong,but I feel like he wrote this song because he felt upset for Hong Kong being returned to mainland China. Also, the lyrics are mostly pretty sad. The returning announcement was released in 1984 and this song released in 1987. The music video was shot in London. All these things make me to think that way. Koji only went to China once in 1988, but he launched multiple concerts in Hong Kong, Taiwan I personally think that the mainland China has a barbaric government ,brainwashing people so that they didn’t have a chance to connect with the world musically, etc. koji didn’t have a good time with mainland audiences.

He and his band was huge in the 80's and many top Hong Kong singers sang his songs.
