People don't understand the price that is paid for being in the limelight.
Really, it's not all fun fame and games.
There's a very dark side to it, but you won't hear anyone speak of it, because that's part of the price.

Actions speak louder than words. There's plenty of examples already proven of folks in the limelight. if everyone had personal experience of fame, fame wouldn't exist would it?
And as I said, we're I to have it, part of the price would be to not reveal it so how would someone with personal experience be able to do so for your personal approval?
Thing about truth tho, it proves itself my MANY metrics, it speaks louder than your fear ever will. Sad you are to incompetent to see through imposed paradoxes though.

"Some people when they get off stage they just cry." Watching this video and your reaction brought a tear to my eye. See, I was inspired by peart back in the late 1970's to learn how to be a Drummer. I spent years self teaching myself on how to play by listening to Rush songs (All of them, I have all of their albums.) I don't know how many hours I spent on just one of their tunes figuring out how to play it, but I did it. This song here, Limelight, is one of my top 3 songs. yes, not to come off smug, I can play it lick for lick, beat for beat. Tell you all something. With being inspired by Neil and a true fan of the band Rush for all of those years, when I learned of the news that Neil had passes it made me weep like I had lost a close friend, even a Family member, he was my only hero. RIP Neil. You are dearly missed. Also, Neil has written many books. Each one is a very good read. I recommend reading all of them. The book 'Ghost Rider" tells the tale of back in 1997, just after the Test for Echo Tour, Neil's only Daughter was killed in a single car crash. Almost a year to that date he lost his Wife to cancer. Neil embarked on a 50.000 mile Motorcycle Throughout Canada, Alaska, America, Mexico and South America in search of healing. I great read. Also, his most recent book is "Far and Wide. Bring that Horizon to me." That is an excellent read. Anyway, thank you for posting this video.

I am a hack at all three instruments. I played bass guitar in a three person band, performed in concert. I played rhythm guitar, done the same thing and I played the drums.. learned how to sing and play the drums at the same time. Had a very difficult time singing and playing the bass guitar though. When I watch these three people play their instruments. I have no chance. . It's so amazing. To watch these three gentlemen And I can't believe Neil's gone.

So you need to listen to Neil Peart's Audio Book! He dealt with the Limelight by doing this. Instead of going on a touring bus or plane. He would ride his motorcycle to each city they played in. Often, no one would recognize him when he went to a restaurant. Later he rode for over 3 months after the death of his daughter in an accident and his wife a year later to cancer. He needed to get away and heal and rode his motorcycle for thousands and thousands of miles in Canada, United States and Mexico. He had to heal. The book is called "Ghost Rider" I read it and now I am listen to it on Audio. Audible is offering it free and his almost all of his other books free through the 28th of January!

You don't realize how accurate you are. There's no feeling quite so lonely as stepping off stage. Under the lights, you're dehumanized in a way, but it's as high as you can get. After you pack up, you're just alone in a group of admirers who don't know you. It's a very empty feeling. You have to really love your art to get up there in the first place. It doesn't take long to get addicted. If you're naturally shy, it's the only place you're comfortable around other people. But, nobody really knows you. It's a decent living if you play your cards right, but it's one hell of a lonely life. ✌️

Great reaction for a great song.
Rush were an anomaly in rock music. It was ALWAYS music first especially once Neil arrived in '74 after their debut album. Also mention worthy, all three guys were family men with children as they gained popularity leading to Moving Pictures, off of this song Limelight (1980).
People (and some media) came out of woodwork, demanding attention, tickets and special requests. Rush just wanted to create, record and play live for their fans.
Obviously you cant have it both ways... fame and lack of privacy go hand in hand.
Rush handled it with grace and integrity, Geddy and Alex doing most of the interviews and meet and greets. Neil himself actually did TONS of interviews (print and television), had his own blog for many years but he did them on his terms and when it was convenient, not vice versa.
Cant fault a guy, who was already known to be private and shy, for living his personal and professional life the way he wanted.
He is sorely missed even though Rush had retired but his lyrics, books and drumming will live on for future generations.

"All the world is indeed a stage"..If my memory serves me that is a quote if slightly modified, from Charlie Chaplin who did the movie Limelight.
If you watch the live version from Exit Stage Left 1981, in the beginning of the chorus "Living in the..."
they use the camera angle actually to show first Geddy Lee and then Alex Lifeson against the limelight, or spotlight, on them. :)

The whole Moving Pictures album is superb. I love the triple pun they used for the title. 1) Moving Pictures can be used like "motion pictures" to refer to movies; thus each song is a little movie of its own. 2) On the album cover, you see workers hauling (moving) paintings into a building, presumably a museum. Thus, you see the workers moving pictures. 3) Also on the album cover, you see some people watching the paintings being moved, and are becoming emotional about it. Thus, the pictures are emotionally "moving", or "moving pictures". It's great stuff!

Neil was a very private individual, especially following the tragedies that occurred to him in the 1990's. His bandmates knew and respected that, and we Rush fans knew and respected that. Neil Peart was a shy, bookish individual. I wouldn't be surprised if he (like myself) had a case of some level of Aspergers. What he's saying in this song is that he resolved to treat the alienation he feels like noise, and focus on the signal, which is the work that goes into writing and playing the songs. Rush were seen as a "nerds band" but this isn't as controversial as it used to be

Fame isn't free. There is a price. Many famous stars have died young. Great lyrics written by Neil Peart.

India, check out "I Feel Like I'm Fixin To Die Rag" by Country Joe and the Fish, the version from Woodstock. He does use the word f*ckers at the audience in good fun, just fyi.

Song, Seminole Wind live. By John Anderson. Xanadu and Red Barchetta by Rush with lyrics. Desert Plains and Grinder by Judas Priest. Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath. Rainbow in the Dark by Ronnie James Dio. Say Hello to Heaven by Temple of the Dog featuring Chris Cornell. Hallowed be Thy Name and Remember Tomorrow by Iron Maiden. Take a Ride by Boston. More AC/DC: Walk all over You and Touch Too Much. And just so you know your song list doesn't have comments set up. Every time i see you do a song all these others come into my head to send to you. I had to backtrack to leave you this message.

You asked who wouldn't. Me, that's who. I never wanted to be a star. I never wanted people looking at me. I guess I'm the only one. Lol. I love how they paraphrased the Shakespeare quote, "All the worlds a stage, we are merely players". We are all a show for one another, like it or not. I think William Shakespare would be smug about it if he could see the level that we heightened that to, putting cameras on everything we see these days.

You should react to 2112, probably Rush's most epic song. Now, this song is over 20 minutes long, but it is definitely worth the time. It's a seven part epic about a future time (the year 2112) when there is no music and what happens when someone finds a guitar and tries to reintroduce music to this society. It's really a great ride. You definitely want to do the studio version first time hearing this.

Neil wrote alot of their songs and this is one of them it's not about liking the limelight he absolutely hated it,it's not a fans perspective it's his.he was a very private person so this is his perspective on it.
