LYRICS:
I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord,
for they rest from their labours. Even so saith the Spirit.
Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine: Cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es.
Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Light eternal shine upon them, Lord, we pray: With thy saints ever dwelling, for thy mercy’s sake, may they rest in peace.
Grant them rest eternal, Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon them.
(English text from the Burial Service
Latin text from Missa pro defunctis)
Visions and Rutter Requiem
John Rutter's latest major work Visions is a four-movement showpiece for solo violin, string orchestra, harp and choir of treble voices, based on the theme of Jerusalem, the Holy City of prophetic imaginations. It was composed at the invitation of the 2016 Menuhin Competition and premiered at a Festival concert in London's historic Temple Church by Kerson Leong, winner of the 2010 Junior Menuhin Prize, and the Choristers of the Temple Church. They are joined by the Cambridge Singers and the young and vibrant Aurora Orchestra.
Rutter's Requiem has enjoyed immense popularity since its premiere recording in 1986. 30 years on, John Rutter takes advantage of advances in recording technology to revisit the work with a new generation of Cambridge Singers.
John Rutter, English composer and conductor, is associated with choral music throughout the world. His recordings with the Cambridge Singers (the professional chamber choir he set up in 1983) have reached a wide global audience, many of them featuring his own music in definitive versions. Among John’s best-known choral works are Gloria, Requiem, Magnificat, Mass of the Children, and Visions, together with many church anthems, choral songs and Christmas carols.

In all my years in choir, I think this is the most beautiful piece I've ever sung. We sang his Requiem mass for All Souls day. I could not help but cry even while singing.
I sang for Rutter in the mid 80’s when he introduced his first works in the USA….what a joy and privilege!!
I SANG FOR JOHN RUTTER 'S "FEEL THE SPIRIT" CONCERT AT CARNEGIE HALL. I JUST LOOKED UP THE BOOK, IT WAS JUNE 17TH, 2001. HE AUTOGRAPHED MY BOOK.
Charity. What a genius he is.Such talented people..fall asleep with music like this.
the ultimate rest in peace song
We sang this for my friend's Celebration of Life. It was an emotional day. Miss you, my friend.
I sang this almost 30 years ago, and have never forgotten it.
Same same! 😊

Perfect light belltone soprano for this piece❤
I miss being bass 1 in my meistersingers class, sang in Carnegie Hall in my senior year of high school!
Mercies of God Hallelujah! My love for you Holy Spirit for working thru John Rutter, Oh most Glorious !
Most beautiful thing I've ever heard
Supremely beautiful. Stunning.
I actually sang along with all the videos on the playlist as a tenor. I miss singing John Rutter's Requiem with my choir.

Transcends all the problems of the world.
Love this and I love singing this!
声がすごくイイ。ラターは同世代。現代のクラシック。人の声というものは、こんなに安らぐのか。
ラターのレクイエムを合唱団で歌いました。凄く感動しました。難しかったけど、幸せでした。
I love the piece & the soprano is outstanding!! (former singer & coir director)
To the four dislikes, I just wanna talk
Those are usually mistakes, easy to do on a cell phone!
Seven right now. How sad they don't appreciate such a beautiful piece of music
You're very good and Rutter is really brilliant. My choir sang Candlelight Carol during one of our last performances using a new arrangement. Write this in the search: you will surely like it.

I'd love to see how far around the world this song has gone. In which country did you learn/sing this song?
I learned it in choir in Canada, and am pushing for it to be taught here in Hong Kong.
Momentarily studying it in the Netherlands, perfomance planned for 2024...
Мы спели её в России

In Hong Kong, learning it in a Christian choir for an upcoming service :)
