I love Lance. Just pops up out of nowhere, beats the record and doesn’t even submit it and then when he gets beat again he just goes “ah sick! Well I’m going to bed” and disappears again
Kerem hitting those "those were for charity, clark" level runs. Dude lets you think you have a chance and then when you've spent all your energy to hit the finish line hes already there cheering you on.
They’re streamers; not really speedrunners, of this game anyways. (I know Ludwig has or has had some WRs.) I think the other top runners would have been less aghast, but still impressed. It’s my favorite part of the video tho!
@Arthrexx For sure - Ludwig's had some WRs as well, but I don't think SmallAnt is featured as one of the streamers reacting to Kerem's (then) WR at the end - where the reactions include 'oh fuck off'. That's the part I was referring to. It's my favorite part! SmallAnt's own reaction (in his own video) was much more muted and wouldn't have been as entertaining to watch, tho maybe it would be entertaining to watch both 'regular' streamers _and_ speedrunners react to WRs, side by side, with a mixed chorus of "Nice" and "WHAT". The speedrunners of Get to Work held a tournament (and Kerem won, and at the 'last minute' too) and they were all excited for each other, and impressed, but not nearly as theatrically.
he was literally talking about karem getting the 11:40, saving 1 sec and I was like: "the only one that could beat that is karem himself... he'll get all three wins, that's what I learned from this video..." and then the line appears and I'm focusing so hard xD aaaand ... karem beats his own time °^°
THIS is the way developers should treat speedrunners which will inevitably result in the vast majority of repeat players for your game, this is fantastic!
Yeah, everyone should make games for the smallest community of gamers there is! No one will make any money and gaming will get even shittier than it is already!
@brandon0981 "Microtransactions? Illegal gambling? Hacking? Predatory tactics? Months-long crunch periods? Mass lay-offs? Nah, it's indie devs making fun speedrunning events that is ruining videogames" - grow up, loser, Jesus Christ.
@brandon0981 Did a speedrunner kick your puppy or something, what's your deal? No one was saying people should ONLY make content for speedrunners, just that they should be encouraged by the devs instead of how a lot of devs patch out things that nobody but speedrunners even do. And even if devs DID cater heavily toward speedrunners, how would that make gaming shittier? Generally if things are better for speedrunners they're better for everyone, especially if we're talking glitchless like most of this video.
@brandon0981 "game devs should treat their hardcore community a little better" "yeah game devs should exclusively cater to their hardcore community" - you rn
Popped back up in my recommended. I still love the mix of "I freaking hate speedrunners" and "I freaking love speedrunners" you have. Because that feels like the only appropriate response to these absolute psycopaths. Absolute BS that you can't believe they found, but you respect them so much for. The video is also incredibly well done, and adding all of the reactions to the runs is such a great touch. 15/10.
Have I heard of this game before? No. Have i ever seen a single one of this guy's videos? No. Am i going to watch this hour long video about speed running in a game I've never heard of? Yes.
It does! 1. Be flawless at what you do; 2. Cut corners wherever you can; 3. Be ruthless, climb the corporate ladder as fast as you can. But you might not like the person you've become in the end (or you do, good for you) :D
tomaszszupryczynski5453 Trolls don't spell check these days either! Your comment should read "Bullshit devs don't test games today". When hating on people who are doing their best, at least don't make multiple mistakes while doing?
You guys have given a masterclass in game design and community/hype building. Incredibly impressive stuff, so pleased this randomly popped up on my feed!
It's like Deep Dip 2 in Trackmania - took the best players in the world 200 hours to finish it once, didn't take long until they were speedrunning it at under 30 minutes.
That compilation of all the streamers reacting to the final speedrun at the same time is so good. The only thing missing from this video is the immaculate vibes of involuntary giggling with deranged glee at what's about to happen on screen, like when Atrioc interrupts himself with "but that....... (holding back laughter) ...was not the fastest time" in a Hitman contract competition video edited because everyone in the replies has no idea what I'm talking about and they need to watch an Atrioc contract competition
Agree on the first point, absolutely brilliant compilation. But I don't think the world record run needed a "but that...", that gag was already used more than once earlier in the video :)
Not that I think he is(!!!) but the way Kerem gets his record broken and takes it back right away every single time almost feels like cheating in a way that is so funny. Like that episode of South Park where Randy keeps taking world record shits and Bono keeps beating him.
Speedrunners are truly the Dev vibe check. Having the developer themselves breakdown the janky bs that makes skips happen is so refreshing, and so much fun. Too often you will see developers knee-jerk to a speedrun going viral, patch everything out, and then lose their entire community. Big ups to Isto Inc. for this whole saga of content, the speedrun bounty created so many streams to watch.
Hm. I mean. I think it depends on the game and the attitude of the runners. It’s absurd to say that devs who’ve poured years of themselves into a game should put up with an endless barrage of “lazy devs forgot the corner of this one wall when you have specific momentum because they’re stupid.” And tearing apart something you worked hard on until it’s so broken that it’s not fun for them to shatter it further. A lot of speedrunning is really nasty and completely different from a fresh game built to be speedrun in a dev sanctioned competition.
@MegaLarriot Nintendo's gotten a lot of criticism for it in the past couple years, one of the big things being patching out Backwards Long Jumps from the all-stars version of SM64, a glitch loved by long-time fans of the game that the average player is almost never going to just accidentally stumble onto.
@DahliaInPurple What type of speedrunners have you been engaging with?... None of them are like "Wow look at this STUPID dev leaving in this skip like an IDIOT" they're just "Hey guys I found a cool new skip"
@slodoco Glitches were allowed in both of the preceding segments, but the final segment was *specifically* Glitchless. That's like going into a horse race with a motorcycle and saying "Well I won, didn't I? I got the fastest time!" Like yeah, sure, you got the fastest time, but motorcycles aren't allowed in this race!
53:55 the duality of speedruns. Two dudes confused as to what the fuck happened, and another guy that knows, and calls the runner a piece of shit while laughing. I come back to watch this video just for this moment. It's just complete perfection.
Doom speedrunning has allowed a script because one specific Logitech scroll wheel is just busted for a specific technique. The metronome for the timing seems fairly straightforward next to that 😂
The current Zelda Ocarina Of Time MST world record uses a metronome to try to pause exactly 59 frames (if you want to see it, it's at the end of the Jabu split, around 1:05:00, he had to unpause / repause because he paused one frame too early). I'm quite sure some runners also use a metronome in Zelda The Wind Waker for some item slides in longer categories.
Fun Fact, that last skip got named after notEdge and is literally called Edging. The various degrees of height you can get with the skip have given it different names depending on the landing spot. What Kerem performed was the Triple edge
@Orangesforyouuu Nah, that shit is important. Speed running is almost always the culmination of entire groups of people building each other up, 1 optimization and strat at a time. So naming strats after the people who discovered them always makes sure that the community recognizes and remembers that person's work, even if they weren't the one to master it nor break records with it.
Kerem's final run had me screaming. homeboy is just purely cracked, man. this is why i love speedrunners. they're a whole different kind of person. BIG respect
40:36 "And a particularly motivated speed run streamer tests every piece of geometry in the entire game on day one" I love the humor in this, just how much bewilderment and begrudging impressed behavior you have towards this dedication is making me laugh, lol.
@CanonTheDog_ I've played enough that there's usually a few combinations of tiles that if I see them (custom or otherwise, just the way they line up) I just instinctively walk into it, and so often do I just walk right into it. I know that feeling. At least I know of one game that embraced that and left a hint that made it lead to a secret item that acknowledged the fact you had to go out of bounds to acquire it instead of just fixing it.
So rare to find a dev, or even someone on RUclips, who actually knows how to talk and doesn't structure every sentence with the exact same tone combination every single time. Drives me nuts. Very, VERY good video, and the editing and transitions were fantastic. Great job.
@G2_Shane It's a psychology tactic to keep people engaged, it's sad that people attention spans are so low content creators HAVE to do that to keep long watch times. :(
i love how the speedrunners are treating it though yes it is a contest but they are just openly sharing it, showing it off, grinding. congratulating each other
9:23 this metaphorically represents giving your boss the "perfect grip" that makes him so happy that he promptly promotes you directly to apartment head, while everyone else is confused as to how you got there without middle management experience. "Ah yeah, wiggle the joystick just right, just like that, keep going"
Watching the speedrunners react to each other, esp Kerem's Day1 run, is so wholesome. It's like a perfect capture of the the phrase: "game recognizes game" Also having the devs themselves explain the skips, with illsutrative renders is so engaging...
Pausing the video to say this, cause... holy hell. I am not the kind of player that plays these games. I started noticing them through Poobear playing them casually, and youtube was like 'Hey look at this video here' First - I absolutely LOVE that you guys take such care at interacting with your players, and doing such a wonderful video to go over all the events, with maps and guides to explain whats going on Second - HOLY MOTHER OF MADNESS are those skills!
This video was amazingly well made. The green and red and blue pathway lines, the zooming in to show different segments, the editing and addition of various clips, this was wonderful to watch
100%. This is the best advertising for this game there could pretty much ever be in lieu of going super viral off of something. Extremely smart marketing move for them to do this!
6:33 yk what would be really funny? If after 10 seconds a gust of wind pushes your character right back to the beginning, specifically to punish people who drop their controller and celebrate
That final speedrun was the best speedrun video I've ever watched. Having all the other speedrunners react to the run was absolutely amazing and sets the standard for any and all speedrun videos going into the future. Had me thoroughly engaged throughout and the end speedrun was the pièce de résistance.
God damn - that was over an hour and not a wasted scene. I absolutely love your unique developer perspective on this speedrun narrative, the script and editing were on-point. Also damn, Kerem just stomped.
50:46 There I am Gary, there I am! 1:01:33 Slight correction about the skip that was found. NotEdge and Lance found a version where you drop and hit a sloped part under the recovery section, and launch with ridiculous speed right into the bounce pad, using just one grab to cancel the splat and redirect your momentum upward. After they shared this discovery, a runner by the name of Mitchriz was practicing the skip and had a hard time doing it consistently, so he tried out just landing directly on the bounce pad block, and then scooting upward into it. This ended up being faster and easier to pull off consistently, so he shared it in the discord and is the version you see in Kerem's run. It's also the version highlighted in the explanation. So it would be a bit more accurate to say "Found by NotEdge and Lance, and refined by Mitchriz". Also, the video doesn't even explain the coolest part about that skip! You not only use the strategy of keeping upward momentum into the first bounce pad, you actually use that on the SECOND bounce pad as well! You need to bounce up to the second pad at just the right height, so you can go sideways into the platform of the second bounce pad, and have the slope redirect you upward into the second bounce pad. It's the only way to get enough height to make it all the way to the top of that black railing, and keep enough speed to make it across the U section.
I just wanna say, a built in timer with color coded segments is genius, and very much appreciated. It makes speedrunning a much more accessible thing when you encourage it like that, and opens a whole new way to enjoy the game. I wish more devs did that
The metronome makes me so happy. As a musician and a speedrunner for Ape Escape back in the day that was how I learned to be super consistent with Moonslinging. it really opened my eyes to the nature of game physics and how, by the nature of numbers, every glitch has a reliable rhythm it can be activated at with consistency. It really warms my heart to see that, for how much games have evolved and speedrunning has blown up, something as analog and retro in the scene as that can still make waves in new games today.
The first term would anger *Thor* from *Pirate Software* , the second would make the game not possible to stream on *Twitch* , because mentioning "favors" is against the *Twitch* ToS.
@NGoldtear he deserves it, he is a genuinely pathological liar, a nepo baby, a guy who admitted to sleeping with a 17 yo at 20, cannot take accountability, claims to be a god hacker but as a level of programming indicating that he never coded an exploit of anything, financed is game 7 years go in 2017 and the game is still in beta yet he proclaims it as a chef-d'oeuvre, claimed he made an unhackable game yet it was cracked in 1 year since release and the only reason it wasn't done earlier is because it had less than 100 reviews so no one knew about it the list goes on
Lance only running on the last 2 days and getting the wr is so crazy to me. How he can just learn the run that quick and improve upon it so heavily, truly cracked.
I mean it helps a ton that people were discovering tricks for 8 days so he could just start learning from other people instead of ever even thinking about the normal route.. He would only see the speedrunning route from the start. People often get stuck in their own way of doing things and if you do something for hundreds of times or even thousands of times it sticks to you.. But if you start by only learning the speedrunning route, you'll be initially failing a lot more than others, but you won't have bad habits learned that you have to unlearn as you improve so you tend to improve much quicker than others even if they played longer than you. Obviously 10 days is very short time, but it's long enough for most people to already get exhausted.. People like Kerem are very rare, but there's always few people who take the grind further than others and are willing to improve to even beat themselves
@DelPlays no kerem just had a little more hours than us and practiced each skip as they were discovered. Like when I only put 20h in day one to get my 23m run kerem went on for basically the full 24h and was more efficient at learning from his background speed running and got the massive 20m day one run and after the second leg kerem started streaming his grinding sessions with some going as long as 20h none with like none of them being shorter than 10
I was running for longer to be fair. I just didn't upload any of the few runs that I completed because it would cost time I should spend on actually running to improve.
I'm not a speedrunner, but MAN I've got such a respect for the craft and the community. It's so cool to see and hear from the dev side of things in a documentary-esque video such as this too. What a unique mix of educational, entertaining and encouraging facets of both video game production and the way we each play/ experience them
The motion graphics in this video are excellently made. What an awesome studio you are tbh - following the development of your own games like this is so neat :O
I basically dont really care about speedrunning and I still watched the whole video. Well done, entertaining, showing the routes made it more understandable and engaging. Dev involvement was a really good call. Gg everyone
This whole event and how it has been documented is so cool, I can only hope more devs get interested/excited about speedruns of their games, even without the contest/bounties. Even having the devs set an official ruleset solves a lot of potential drama that tends to crop up in a lot of speedruns when the community needs to decide for themselves what is and is not allowed.
@frostkiller7451 Heard of the Lonely Mountains games? There’s a great speedrunning community for both games and the devs included leaderboards in both games. The games themselves aren’t quite as hard but matching the top runs probably is pretty comparable.
Pausing the game and pulling out a METRONOME of all things is such a speed runner thing to do
Audibly said “of fucking course” bc it was smant 😂😂😂
@Skellyton99smant didn't use the metronome
@jordanidklol288 I think he meant smart
@chrislawson3536 have you ever looked at a keyboard because n is not next to r
@Nintendude0 ok? If he's a viewer of Smant it might've been autocorrect
I guess kerem needed that job
Average interview in the 2020's be like:
Bro that's funny worth a sub
He missed the part where that was his problem
as a Turk, yeah thats how it usually goes. Bro was had that CEO's son energy
I love Lance. Just pops up out of nowhere, beats the record and doesn’t even submit it and then when he gets beat again he just goes “ah sick! Well I’m going to bed” and disappears again
drops a wr
doesnt elaborate
leaves
chad energy
👍
Frostkiller is basically
-submits 2 wr with 2fps
-refuses to elaborate
-leaves
While everybody is trying to get the job, Kerem is the son of the CEO so he gets to skip everything.
nah, he was the young intern that ended up getting adopted by the CEO by sheer effort and the power of having friends.
@mikedanielespeja6128this is so eloquent and accurate
@mikedanielespeja6128 lmao
“R&D department” for the strat-finder group is the biggest missed opportunity of 2025 so far
Rough and Decent Department
I forgot it was 2025 already. Could someone please calm these years down
To be fair the scientists is a close second to this so not entirely cooked
@trybunt Boy I have terrible news for ya
The irony of Dan not being able to grind get a job because he has a job.
"Dude our project is due in 2 minutes. You can't just turn it in now."
Kerem: "Just watch me."
Kerem after five minutes: Wanna see me do it again?
*proceeds to get full marks*
@thatloseraids3480 **Does it again after doing it again**
@extol2247 bro u just saved my life, I had an essay due in 2 hours that I had forgotten to turn in, Tysm
gotchu homie.
Kerem hitting those "those were for charity, clark" level runs. Dude lets you think you have a chance and then when you've spent all your energy to hit the finish line hes already there cheering you on.
the fact that there were 2 big glitch skips and kerem still beat those record time with just pure skill and route optimization is insane.
790 likes and no replies is wild
3*
Last part was glitchless,so everyone was aiming for that.
Kerem has a family to feed. Y'all playing to play, he's playing to eat.
Desperation is the mother of innovation
@BreakyOnline A circle of life: have needs, innovate and beat the competition.
@BreakyOnlineBoredom is the father and Spite is the Uncle
Does he?
If so, Bon Appetit.
He has worked hard for those meals.
Meanwhile i have a family to eat 😋
imagine youre in a competition and your opponent is cooking you so hard he pulled out a metronome 😭
I'd just fucking quit gg you win lmao
Imagine you're in a competition and your oponent shaves his head for added aerodynamics
HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA 😂😂😂😂😂
Some people is cooking. Kerem is grilling.
Just wait till this guy finds out about mebe12 and his trackmania speed runs specifically E05 valley
Only the OGs knew Kerem from the fall guys speedrunning community
Congratulation to the top 3 runners: Kerem, Kerem, and Kerem
your comment spoilered, cuz its top comment and you will instantly see it🤣🤣🤣. f+ck sake
Obama giving a medal to obama levels of humor
@alanyl_YT learned this as a kid. Don't go to comment section until you're satisfied with the video 😂
@MTEditzPhone users:
Don't forget the lowest time from after the race! (Kerem)
you know the speedrun is good when all the other speedrunners watching you play it just start yelling "Oh fuck OFF" all at the same spot XD
They’re streamers; not really speedrunners, of this game anyways. (I know Ludwig has or has had some WRs.) I think the other top runners would have been less aghast, but still impressed. It’s my favorite part of the video tho!
@KennyEvitt Smallant still does speedruns here and there, primarily Mario. Not at the highest level, but he has the knowledge.
@Arthrexx For sure - Ludwig's had some WRs as well, but I don't think SmallAnt is featured as one of the streamers reacting to Kerem's (then) WR at the end - where the reactions include 'oh fuck off'. That's the part I was referring to. It's my favorite part!

@KennyEvittmakes sense. Streamers overreact to everything. Its kind of their job.
I just love the "nothing in this game is honest" rant near the end
What i learned from this video is thay Kerem is just fucking built different
@genericuser984 SHIT HAD ME ROLLING. Just the video of the guy shaking ass with the metronome feels like a fever dream
@matthewpace8216 to be fair, quite a number of speedruns use metronomes in super-presice movement tech.
he was literally talking about karem getting the 11:40, saving 1 sec and I was like: "the only one that could beat that is karem himself... he'll get all three wins, that's what I learned from this video..." and then the line appears and I'm focusing so hard xD aaaand ... karem beats his own time °^°
And Smant. All legends.
there are more skips that would save even more time to go sub 9m (not illegal ones)
Small Ant Brute forcing using Skyrim mountain logic is so on point. lol
Kerem comming in at the last second to win every single section of the competion is actually insane.
tas
@RecurveStickerDragoncould you imagine?
@RecurveStickerDragonno
@RecurveStickerDragon mad?
Tbh, it does sound like tas.
I love how most of Kerem’s shtick is just being cracked at the game
edit: I feel a deep urge to be the guy that says "waw 10k likes!"
XD yeah
😊
And weaseling in at the end
I honestly laughed out loud when I read this, he’s literally just built different
THATS WHAT IM SAYING
THIS is the way developers should treat speedrunners which will inevitably result in the vast majority of repeat players for your game, this is fantastic!
Yeah, everyone should make games for the smallest community of gamers there is! No one will make any money and gaming will get even shittier than it is already!
@brandon0981 it's a rage game, that's half of the target audience.
@brandon0981 "Microtransactions? Illegal gambling? Hacking? Predatory tactics? Months-long crunch periods? Mass lay-offs? Nah, it's indie devs making fun speedrunning events that is ruining videogames" - grow up, loser, Jesus Christ.

Have I heard of this game before?
No.
Have i ever seen a single one of this guy's videos?
No.
Am i going to watch this hour long video about speed running in a game I've never heard of?
Yes.
Same, same, no regrets.
watched this at 1 am when having to wake up a 7. never heard of it. watched the entire thing.
Did you buy the game?
Watched it at 1.5x, but still worth it.
@Mr.Turtle226 i also have to wake up at 7 and its 5am now
Now Kerem needs to write a self-help book "How I became CEO in under 12 minutes". I'm sure the strats all apply in real life.
W mans, I would read it
@amaze3727 id buy it too. to gather information and execute...
It does! 1. Be flawless at what you do; 2. Cut corners wherever you can; 3. Be ruthless, climb the corporate ladder as fast as you can.
But you might not like the person you've become in the end (or you do, good for you) :D
step 1: climb up the outside wall to the CEO office
"now for this part you're going to need a metronome"
33:20 "Do you know how long we tested that" as a dev this is so real. It's always the things you never expect
The look on his face, a mix of amazement, bewilderness, horror and all the stages of grief. Just so relateable.
100% coverage and I didn't fucking catch that wtf
tomaszszupryczynski5453 ok Mr. “I hate society and assume everyone else is lazy and stupid”
tomaszszupryczynski5453 somebody's upset
tomaszszupryczynski5453 Trolls don't spell check these days either! Your comment should read "Bullshit devs don't test games today". When hating on people who are doing their best, at least don't make multiple mistakes while doing?
if the game represents climbing the corporate ladder for regular players, speedrunning the game must be what its like for a nepo baby.
Fuck, I just commented almost this exact same comment. Can't be original on the internet, eh?
"Nothing is honest in this f--king world" is perfect counterbalance to Wubby absolutely losing it. Two kinds of defeat: of the body and of the soul.
Wubby7
1:01:19 around here
@Morweee And 5:58 for Wubby getting wrung out.
Holy cow I'm on the big screen
Thanks for including my run! GG
insane skips bro GG WP
I'm not sure why your run got invalidated, but good job thinking out of the box! Wish you the best in your future speedrunnings!
@oliverhorvath8013 it was supposed to be glitchless
@oliverhorvath8013
Blud is not listening
@ okay, that makes sense. Thanks for the info!
Cinema.
You are the GOAT
🐐
Built different
there is no cinema (for the most part) without the star role. You are a legend.
+$2200
You guys have given a masterclass in game design and community/hype building. Incredibly impressive stuff, so pleased this randomly popped up on my feed!
Props to Dan, for doing the whole game fairly normally as an EXCELLENT baseline for the rest of the speedrunning! Really helped genuinely
Funny how everyone fails to mention he was a playtester for the game so he already knew how to play…
@CrungySpungusok cool
20:24 smant just going "I'm giving you a sub" in such a deadpan way is so funny to me idk why
Bro said "Credit where credit is due" and i gotta respect that
@Jammer4hyvz It's also great for building loyalty and engagement for your channel.
lol, it was so quiet I didn't even catch that. That's funny.
My go to line would’ve been - ‘soooo… I got these cheeseburgers’ and anyone who got it would be my new best friend lol 😄
I laughed like 7 minutes straight on that and rewatched MINIMUM 8 times entire moment
...
...
pause
...
...
...I'm giving you a sub
Now this is the kinda of advert I'm absolutely ok with. Had never heard of the game, now I want to play it.
Being able to draw the route through the levels is so cool. Top knotch content
they must have used the level assets themselves and drawn the path in the game engine? great stuff
*notch
@SquishyOfCinder *gnotch
@Monsterbug98 *nhotch
"knotch" lmao
1:01:39 "Nothing is honest in this game, everything is cheeseable." Yea. It's a metaphor for climbing the corporate ladder. Checks out to me. XD
I was thinking during the video that "Corporate Ladder" would have been a better game name.
A good band name too.
@kruks there's a board game named after that i think so ig they own the gaming name
ludwig is just mad lol
He seems very bitter lol
If it was just a statement I'd agree, but it's CLEARLY a whine, immediately after he starts calling "cheat"... Poor loser.
I thought I was cool for beating it in under 5 hours but this just takes my whole ego and throws it in the trash😭Incredible video and incredible game
Ludwig better watch out….
Now go do it in 10 minutes lol
Yo Samme if you see this I love your content keep up the good work
You are!
It's like Deep Dip 2 in Trackmania - took the best players in the world 200 hours to finish it once, didn't take long until they were speedrunning it at under 30 minutes.
kerem might just be the most skilled, dedicated, perfect player of all time
That compilation of all the streamers reacting to the final speedrun at the same time is so good.
The only thing missing from this video is the immaculate vibes of involuntary giggling with deranged glee at what's about to happen on screen, like when Atrioc interrupts himself with "but that....... (holding back laughter) ...was not the fastest time" in a Hitman contract competition video
edited because everyone in the replies has no idea what I'm talking about and they need to watch an Atrioc contract competition
He did that twice for day one...
Nobody needs to copy atrioc
Nah I feel like the reveal of Kerem was so similar to the Tupla Pekoni reveal of the first hitman contract
Agree on the first point, absolutely brilliant compilation.
But I don't think the world record run needed a "but that...", that gag was already used more than once earlier in the video :)
You can just watch atrioc for that
i like how he just grabs a metronome to become spider-kerem
xD and the guys' hysterical laughter xD
The best part is how it almost literally looks like Spider-Man style wall-crawling
24:44 "ouuhh motherf-FORTUNATELY, SmallAnt discoveres..."
such a clean edit lmao
That edit was as clean as Kerem's runs.
Honestly I learned more about practical game design from this one video than I did in 2 years of my country's highest-rep game dev course.
what devs patch speedruns????
Hm.
I love how the music and graphics choices respect the fact that Summoning Salt is basically the de facto gold standard of speedrunning documentation
He revolutionised the genre so much it's like the entire genre shifted after him
11:37 That's me!! Thank you Isto for adding me in your RUclips video and I had a blast playing this game as well!
Hey silvadyt :D
Even tho it was a broken run, Kerem is just built different like how brehhh
@sunsist-thegoat_vegito HELLO XP
They robbed you. That is a real glitch with a real strat. I am declaring you winner. It's their fault for not testing their game better.
It's just complete perfection.
my jaw SMASHED through the floor when the metronome came up. WHAT.
Doom speedrunning has allowed a script because one specific Logitech scroll wheel is just busted for a specific technique.
The metronome for the timing seems fairly straightforward next to that 😂
A metronome was (is?) also used for an Elden Ring glitch that launches the player a wacky distance in a split-second
How one man edged 3 times simultaneously?
What a completely boring fact
@
What is boring hearing a man edged 3 times at the same time?
@Orangesforyouuu What an unnecessarily rude comment
@Orangesforyouuu Nah, that shit is important. Speed running is almost always the culmination of entire groups of people building each other up, 1 optimization and strat at a time. So naming strats after the people who discovered them always makes sure that the community recognizes and remembers that person's work, even if they weren't the one to master it nor break records with it.
54:30 "What is he doing? WHAT IS HE DOING?!" - Prompt on the bottom starts reading: "Your mom..."
I saw that and started cracking up!
read this comment at the exact moment it happened
If this game is a metaphor for climbing the corporate ladder, then Karem just simulated the path of a nepo baby into the CEO seat.
47:00 "and with added *aerodynamics*, he *shaves off* 9 seconds"
damn the various colored lines make understanding the strats and routes extremely intuitive, thanks for that!
Kerem's final run had me screaming. homeboy is just purely cracked, man. this is why i love speedrunners. they're a whole different kind of person. BIG respect
Same
And I never heard of the game before hand too
47:32 Shaving off 14 seconds? That's 52 seconds ahead of the glitchless WR...
I like how, as a game developer you see a bug/tech, and instead of patching it, your like "
oh wow i didn't know that."
He worded it and used his tone to try and get you to comment this exact comment. its so easy to see through you're just an idiot
51:42 the summoning salt music hits the nervous system like a stun gun, immediate chills
It’s one of the Speedrun community’s national anthems now
music he uses appears else where in the video as well
Truly, Summoning Salt established the Speedrun overview OST, and it I love how that just kicks in at the perfect time.
What is the exact name of it? Can never find for some reason
@AlexEdwards-j2q We’re finally Landing - Home
Now THAT is a good video to watch on a Friday evening!
Love your avatar btw ^^
@ShOwOba Thank you! 😁
its so cute and adorable ^w^
Nice too see you here \[T]/
I love your model, it looks super nice
Note for myself:
If I plan my game to have 50 hours of gameplay, I should plan for speed runners to finish it in 5 minutes
40:36 "And a particularly motivated speed run streamer tests every piece of geometry in the entire game on day one" I love the humor in this, just how much bewilderment and begrudging impressed behavior you have towards this dedication is making me laugh, lol.
This line combined with Smant's stare and furiously mashing is magic
i used to help beta test for old rpgmaker games and i say from experience, devs hate when you check their wall collisions
You should check out Smant's reaction to this video.
That's Smant for ya XD
Great job.
You mean those youtubers who end every sentence as if it was the most mind-blowing statement ever uttered? Yeah, I hate them too.
I'm with you on this one. The video was very well structured, voiced and just the right amount of explanation to action to make it entertaining.
@G2_Shane It's a psychology tactic to keep people engaged, it's sad that people attention spans are so low content creators HAVE to do that to keep long watch times. :(
This guy does exactly what you're talking about, it's just the amount you like. He annoys me horribly
That and he isn't getting all flipped out and "emotional" like some streamers do.
giving credit to each person who found every tiny advantage is seriously top tier. Great Video, love hearing it from the creators prospective.
that thumbnail is uh.. i would've personally reconsidered it LOL
As a German viewer actually makes me so happy that you included Papaplatte like I didn’t expect to see him here at all
and kevin strikes again with his classic overestimation of himself "das ist alles super super easy" omE
Lattenarsch
Er hat halt den fling sofort kapiert. Wenn chat ihn nicht abfuckt ist Kevin manchmal ein echter Gamer.
Glücklicherweise brauchte man garnicht so viele Übersetzungen da er eh nur englische Wörter verwendet
Fun fact: Kerem is German :)
kerem be like "gravity? who gives a crap about gravity?" and just fly's through everything
I read this in the Scout's voice from TF2 and it's so fitting
flies* bro it ain't possessive it's just conjugated
@kindredbarkmaw2509 that was the point lol
_pfft_ Screw gravity!
*_ascends_*
@drpibisback7680 Now I'm imagining the ASDF skit but as he flies away I just hear Scout screaming.
And it's even better lol
i love how the speedrunners are treating it though
yes it is a contest but they are just openly sharing it, showing it off, grinding. congratulating each other
9:23 this metaphorically represents giving your boss the "perfect grip" that makes him so happy that he promptly promotes you directly to apartment head, while everyone else is confused as to how you got there without middle management experience. "Ah yeah, wiggle the joystick just right, just like that, keep going"
Watching the speedrunners react to each other, esp Kerem's Day1 run, is so wholesome. It's like a perfect capture of the the phrase: "game recognizes game"
Also having the devs themselves explain the skips, with illsutrative renders is so engaging...
37:24 you know the run’s getting serious when the runner pulls out the metronome
Pausing the video to say this, cause... holy hell. I am not the kind of player that plays these games. I started noticing them through Poobear playing them casually, and youtube was like 'Hey look at this video here'
First - I absolutely LOVE that you guys take such care at interacting with your players, and doing such a wonderful video to go over all the events, with maps and guides to explain whats going on
Second - HOLY MOTHER OF MADNESS are those skills!
It’s hard, but it’s also a lot of fun, and so satisfying when you (finally) get thru it, bit by bit.
ludwig just tweaking at 1:01:00
did you make the model off of your friend? 1:04:24
💀
(Lowkey that would be pretty cool though)
Shout-out Daniel Corona he's my goat
This video was amazingly well made. The green and red and blue pathway lines, the zooming in to show different segments, the editing and addition of various clips, this was wonderful to watch
100%. This is the best advertising for this game there could pretty much ever be in lieu of going super viral off of something. Extremely smart marketing move for them to do this!
Doing tricks on it
The replay tech is A++, being able to replay the game at a better framerate and also to go third person for particularly cool tricks.
It was streamers reacting, but that was probably a better choice anyways. The other top runners wouldn’t have reacted so strongly!
Honestly, the whole time i was routing for Kerem. Dude is just too smooth with his movements and 100% deserved that. Good shit.
Same. I had the feeling he'd win right when I saw his first run.
His first win already give me the vibe.. maybe that was the intention of the video producer
God damn - that was over an hour and not a wasted scene. I absolutely love your unique developer perspective on this speedrun narrative, the script and editing were on-point. Also damn, Kerem just stomped.
World record under 5 minutes 💀
1:02:48 I Love the little slide here, Just showing how KEREM is built different ❤😂
His reaction maybe
"Now I'm the CEO"
It's the only way to get enough height to make it all the way to the top of that black railing, and keep enough speed to make it across the U section.
what he said
i see what you did, referring to yourself in third person lol
yeah what he said
lol they should pin this comment
51:20 "By the only runner who had a chance at beating Kerem...
...himself!"
I FUGGEN DIEEEDDD AHAHAHAHA
The real roller man looks cooler.
This is a top tier meme game though.
Music was the original speedrun
@mopanda81 Ruined by Flight of the Bumble Bee.
glad to be a part of this amazing community and pulling out stellar runs along with the other hunters.
Frost, your runs are spectacular 🕺💃🕺
28:00 not calling the wine-mixer skip the sober skip or sober route is a damn shame
They should name the timeskips things like "nepotism skip" or "sexual favor" as references to skipping steps on the corperate ladder in real life
The first term would anger *Thor* from *Pirate Software* , the second would make the game not possible to stream on *Twitch* , because mentioning "favors" is against the *Twitch* ToS.
@cymes82 kinda weird to attack a random streamer like that
@NGoldtear he deserves it, he is a genuinely pathological liar, a nepo baby, a guy who admitted to sleeping with a 17 yo at 20, cannot take accountability, claims to be a god hacker but as a level of programming indicating that he never coded an exploit of anything, financed is game 7 years go in 2017 and the game is still in beta yet he proclaims it as a chef-d'oeuvre, claimed he made an unhackable game yet it was cracked in 1 year since release and the only reason it wasn't done earlier is because it had less than 100 reviews so no one knew about it the list goes on
@cymes82 what?
@cymes82??? lol ok
Like when I only put 20h in day one to get my 23m run kerem went on for basically the full 24h and was more efficient at learning from his background speed running and got the massive 20m day one run
and after the second leg kerem started streaming his grinding sessions with some going as long as 20h none with like none of them being shorter than 10
I was running for longer to be fair. I just didn't upload any of the few runs that I completed because it would cost time I should spend on actually running to improve.
@lance259 humble.
I'm not a speedrunner, but MAN I've got such a respect for the craft and the community. It's so cool to see and hear from the dev side of things in a documentary-esque video such as this too. What a unique mix of educational, entertaining and encouraging facets of both video game production and the way we each play/ experience them
As a Unity Game Developer, this speedrun was Absolute Cinema ❤........
as a german the thumbnail made my heart rate spike
bruder muss los
cringe
Na es stimmt aber
cool music
ascension 2:15 for 1:00:51 fits so well lol
55:47 that was a great reaction. The collective "whatt" with a single "yeahh" just feel like youre hanging with the bois
hanging with the bois hitting the fat audie skip🗣
Incredible presentation and organization of the most chaotic element. Streamers.
59:14 I don't know WHY but for some reason Ludwig's sad, depressed, and confused "...you don't have to go in the holeee?" just broke me.
The motion graphics in this video are excellently made. What an awesome studio you are tbh - following the development of your own games like this is so neat :O
Woah bluesr
I made those graphics ! Love your vids & I appreciate it :)
Hollow knight!
i like the funky arts that allow me to visualize the positions of the opfor
I love smant's ability to destroy every game through sheer determination
I basically dont really care about speedrunning and I still watched the whole video. Well done, entertaining, showing the routes made it more understandable and engaging. Dev involvement was a really good call. Gg everyone
34:29 ‘No supernatural gimmick’ the humble augmentation tattoos
Watching the combination of amazement, disgust, joy, and rage from the other streamers watching Kerem's run is truly beautiful
20:12 i like how he says small ant had made a huge discovery and then shows small ant getting the strat from someone in chat
I think it's just a suggestion from a chatter and not a known / tested strat at that point
SmallAnt made the same point in his reaction video! 🙃
5:39 The giant WHAT
koks
subtitle: cog
Cogs, what else could it possibly be?
the giant cocktail (I like alcohol nothing much)
The Giant Horse Co...
57:00 this clip could be a RUclips short, especially with Ludwig’s saying the difficulty of the section
This whole event and how it has been documented is so cool, I can only hope more devs get interested/excited about speedruns of their games, even without the contest/bounties. Even having the devs set an official ruleset solves a lot of potential drama that tends to crop up in a lot of speedruns when the community needs to decide for themselves what is and is not allowed.
and i would love to speedrun new games like this that feel designed to be sped run
@frostkiller7451 Heard of the Lonely Mountains games? There’s a great speedrunning community for both games and the devs included leaderboards in both games. The games themselves aren’t quite as hard but matching the top runs probably is pretty comparable.
