The late Ira Louvin did the voice of the "hillbilly" on this. He was 1 of the Louvin Brothers, who were Grand Ole Opry members, & sang sensational brother duets up to their parting in 1964, & Ira's death in 1965. Thanks for making this available as I haven't heard this in over 30 years, & Thanks to Eddie Stubbs on WSM for the above info about Ira singing the part!
I love this--it's the only sausage we ever bought. Today, I actually order it online. We were from West TN/Memphis, and this is the only brand anyone used. I still remember the commercials from the 60s. Thanks for posting!!
I grew up in the 60s in indiana left home in 1980 for the militaryand retired after 30 years of service.. Awoke this morning with part of this song in my head and couldnt quite figure it out. I typed in tenn pride jingle and was flooded with memories.......thanks so much for putting this on here!!! love the violin!!!!
The singing voice is Ira Louvin of the Louvin Brothers, reportedly paid $35 in the mid-1950s for recording this commercial (don't know who the man is - other than Mr. Odum himself). It played on the Grand Ole Opry well into the 1980s/early 1990s (especially the Friday night Opry, where Tennessee Pride sponsored a portion of the show). WSM AM 650 used it alot as well. I knew the words to this song since a teenager. Great memories....
Man, as a Nashville girl, I totally remmeber this, I used to sing it! I also did anactual back up singing for a sausage commercial in 1969, while in Nashville, me and my sister and 2 brothers. 'Jakes brothers Hot, Jakes brothers mild, Jake's brothers on your plate makes you want to smile"!!
My wife’s cousins were Ira and Charlie LOUVIN, from Sand Mountain, Alabama. Their real last name was Loudermilk. Parents were Colonel & Georgia Ann Loudermilk.
the ice cream truck where i live (hueneme beach, ventura county)plays this melody(no words), and has for a long time. i sing the lyrics when it goes by, people think thats strange.
You're right on that! Listening to Eddie Stubbs WSM program some time back, they had just found out that was the case. Eddie & his connections pretty much know their stuff.
dag1984 Jimmy Dean is my favorite with home made biscuits and gravy. Also throw 3-4 eggs in there. Great eating. Fried potatoes are good mixed in there too !
Well, well, well, we meet again knave! Let us not defame the greatness of this commercial and call a truce. But if we meet again, it will be your downfall!
Lately I've been watching several of those 'old timey commercials'. When I compare them to modern adds, snicker, it's just plain boring. I realize that many modern advertisers believe the old adds are 'corny'. And that's why commercials will continue to be boring. JMHO... but I'm a consumer, and guess who doesn't listen to the adds, but reads the labels instead.
Naw, naw, naw. Youins aint got it right yet. That revenue agent that went missin was just the beginnen of the secret recipe. Them yankee touristers taste pretty dang good too.

Thought so
$36 was a little money in the 1950's,
but I think they should've paid my grandfather at least $1000..😉👍
I love how authentically Southern (it works for the sausage name “Tennessee Pride”) this jingle sounds.
who remembers the shorter commercial with the voice of Odom at the end saying "It's tasty... And it's real tender, too!"
I was around 5 or 6 years old when I heard this song. Brought back some fond memories.
Y-9d is people!

Mr. Odom showed some serious hip-hop skills at the 0:28 mark.
Love it...awesome
I think it's- "But before this song has done all played...". It's Tennessee-speak, ya know.

I grew up with this ad on every TV station every hour or so. It gives me nightmares even to this day. 8>))
Better than ads in my day
Tennessee Pride is my favorite sausage, aside from Jimmy Dean of course. The tune is pretty darn catchy.
