I started watching Alexandra recently and she spoke of you, I clicked on a video and immediately started followed you a couple of weeks back. I was talking to my partner today about you as you’re a “local lad” to us and found that funny from how I’d found your channel. As soon as he heard your name he said “that’s Gavin, the person I’ve talked about from college, the person who’s book I have.” He’s spoken, over the years, about how kind you were to him back for that short time (especially against people who were nasty about his stammer), and how pleased he was that you were going for your dream, and proud he was. I can’t believe how small the world is!!!!
Oh my gosh Helen hi! Thank you so much for telling me this. I can’t tell you how happy and emotional your comment made me. I remember James (if it isn’t James you’re talking about, I’m gonna feel very embarrassed haha), and college was such a rough time but James’ friendship was one of the few shining lights from that time in my life. I am so touched that he even still remembers me, and I hope he’s been well. I’m proud of him too in whatever he’s been up to! Seriously, the fact you found me through Lexi too really does show how small and amazing this world is, I still can’t believe it. Please tell James I hope he’s happy and that you’re both doing amazing 🥰
@@GavinReadsItAll it is James, I’ll let him know. He’s spoken about you often over the 10 years we’ve been together, he was very excited to see your channel
Since you're at the end of your Goosebumps material, you should look into the Creepover series by PJ Night. They're aimed at a similar audience and there are 22 books in the series. They all revolve around some kind of creepy sleepover but they're all in their own world and the characters are not connected. There are some where the creepy bits were a dream or something but for the most part they're either left open to your interpretation or are left creepy. I've been reading them for the past couple of years, I've only got FOUR LEFT! I'd love to see how you feel about them in comparison to Goosebumps!
Love this series! Hope you'll tackle the Fear Street series as well, those were some of my favorites, and geared towards a slightly older audience than the og Goosebumps
Yes! Ive been waiting for the conclusion of this series. Sadly, no r.l.stine :< maybe you could do House of Shivers when thats done? Love the vids man, hope u can keep up the great content!
This series got me reading again after nearly a decade without. Thank you for making these! I’ve actually read along the last two complete series. We’ve gotta make ‘give yourself goosebumps’ happen. Everyone should chip in their old books for the cause 😂. Also you’ve gotta give me credit for the 3 lives thing. Ps. Monster blood is back was my favourite slappy world book 😳
Oh 100% you’ll get credit for the 3 lives thing if I get my hands on the full series, I’ve got you written down in my notes haha it’s honestly such a genius idea
Yay!!! That's it!!! You did it!!! It's over!!! The wait is over!!! YOU FINISHED THEM ALL!!!! (For now!) * Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now, I don't have to read ANY OF THEM beyond what I read as a kid, since these books scared the daylights out of me 😅. * I saw your series post. I think you're going to have a great time. If you want to dive into the series world consistently again, there are plenty of books/manga that you'd enjoy. I'm thinking Cursed Princess Club, Everworld, Fullmetal Alchemist, Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys... I'd love to see you do an Ascension of a Bookworm vlog. Those come in either light novel OR manga form. Would be neat if you got both and compared them. * All in all, great job Gavin! Loved this!
It's been a joy getting these each year, thank you Gavin! I'll join in some of the others in hoping that you do more of Fear Street. Some of his strongest books are there, imho, but also some really bad ones that will amuse you and a few that are just kind of stunning in how out there they are (I'm forgetting the name but One Evil Summer, I think? it has a psychic girl who is like Carrie in it.)
The 90's Goosebumps show is what got me into the books to begin with. I owned a few of the Ultimate Goosebumps VHS tapes and would rewatch them frequently, Bride of the living Dummy/an old story was my most watched. I love the books for the most part, I'm rereading them now and its funny how perception changes from reading a book as a child to revisiting it as an adult. You notice things, The Horrorland books came out while I was in High school. I wasn't the age demographic anymore, but I still read those books and enjoyed them. Goosebumps is a Huge contributor to my childhood, my love of reading and my love of Horror.
Any desire to rate the TV show episodes? I know it’s harder now that it’s off Netflix and you’re more of a book person anyway, but would love to see that added to your itinerary!
Wow! Congratulations on getting through every major goosebumps series! 🎉 That was truly impressive vlogging. I hope you now have some time to read just for fun. I mean, I know these types of videos are fun for us and important for your channel but I would be exhausted, if I were you! 😅
I love your series a lot and have some suggestions for something to follow this up on. I dont know how available they can be but theres some goosebumps knock off type series that could fill the void. Theres things like Deadtime Stories, Shivers, Graveyard School, and Bone Chillers! As you mentioned as well, The Give Yourself Goosebumps books would be amazing for you to cover, but theres also two books called Triple Headers and the Tales to Give You Goosebumps books that are collections of short stories. I just would love to see you cover even more middle grade (even tho it feels lesser) "horror" books. Nonetheless keep up the amazing work and I cant wait to see whats next. Edit: Forgot to mention 90stalgia did a good video on the Rare & Forgotten Goosebumps Rip-offs that could be a useful guide of sorts.
I can't believe you're finally done! And of course the Monster Blood one was the worst! But the mention of Slappy's Wikipedia page had me looking it up. Apparently, RL Stine cowrote a short story about Slappy with two other authors, as part of an anthology with the gimmick that it's a "face off" between popular thriller characters. I'm now curious how Slappy fits and was received, given how consistently juvenile Slappy as a character has been, and this is meant to be a collection for adults. Although the story is called "Gaslighted"...
I'd love to see what you think about the Fear Street books, R.L. Stine's more teen-targetted audience books, and how they would compare to some of these stories as well.
I have enjoyed the new Goosebumps show. And I grew up watching the 90s TV show. And Slappy is like the Joker of the Goosebumps world. You don't know his real origin story. I love your Goosebumps videos. I am doing a STINETOBER this month and have been reading Stine books.. 🎃🎃🎃👻👻👻👻
That's where the show series comes in they do that where their teenagers and a little mature not too mature where is Glory but mature enough so you'll probably like it
I tried to be nostalgic and go through Goosebumps in lockdown, I zoned out a bit after the original 62 though. For me at least, a lot of it is nostalgia, not gonna lie.
You know you're getting old, when you read about a someone suggesting spending the night in an abandoned mansion and the first things you think about are "where is the permit?!" and "don't the parents have jobs?!" 😂 (No hate, though, I am a year older than you 😉)
I'm glad i'm not the only adult reading Goosebumps. I recently JUST finished collecting the original 62 first edition books and currently reading through them but not in order. I'm picking the less traditional "monster" type stories and ones i think are just not gonna be as good to read first so i'm not burned out on lame books towards the end. Some are hit or miss. The Abdominal Snowman of Pasadena is maybe the weakest one i've read so far out of a dozen or so.
For the choose your own adventure books, maybe you could do one video per book you have? Then you don’t have to wait to have all of them. And if those books are like video games where your choices matters, then you can do three runs with each book in one video. Like the first time you read you choose what you want as normal, then after you finish you do it again but choose different options or only the best, worst, crazy/weird options 🤗
i give you credit for getting through all of it , i did make it as well,,,,and vloged on it ,,,but most were real tough to finish and the rest had horrible finishes.
I know Bob’s audience is Middle grade mostly, but he’s written YA horror too. Amping Slappy up to that level & using power to “dummy-(y” his owners’ loved ones as “punishment” (and give him better jokes, seriously watch Jeff Dunham) might bring some life back into him.
I think you're going to like the Goosebumps Disney+ show. Without spoiling the plot I'll say, it's elevated from the source material. It's as much for the 'old kids' as it is for the 'new kids'. BUT, the final episode hasn't come out yet so, anything could happen 😉
I think Stine repeats ideas and plots for new generation of kids. I dont think many kids will go seek out a book from 1992 and more likely will go for a flashy new more accessible cover of a new series.
Slappys “jokes” are just insults that are funny to him. But o kinda agree- the schtik of Slappy is over. He’s no longer scary. The first three books from the flagship series were actually scary. After a while Slappy wore out his welcome
