We’ll it took me over 1 year before I had any success with the parrot finches. Once I identified a pair and I put them into this single cage. I took about 3 weeks for the male to find the nest, bud the nest, and for the first egg to show up.
Good luck with them Chris. I bred them over the last few years and I would offer 2 pieces of advice based on what happened to me. 1. Dont look at the nest too often, I had one pair abandon a nest after I looked into it. 2. The male got super aggressive very quickly with the chicks. After a couple of weeks I could hear them calling for food and then the next day the male had killed 3 of the chicks in a short space of time.
Really? Great to know I have been keeping a close eye on them but have not checked the nest since the posting of the video. I’m hopeful that the chicks are still in there as they are anxiously awaiting the eggfood every time I feed. 🤞
Sadly some birds when a feel threatened will take aggression out on mate and chicks. Have experienced that when in small enclosure. Privacy is the key. For some they are a notoriously difficult bird to breed. Me personally I gave up on em 20yrs ago. Climate here doesn't seem to suit. Humid and hot here. Believe they prefer more temperate/low humidity Climate?
