Resurrecting an old post here but yeah Corser looked totally at ease on that old BMW. I think very few people could have put together a faster lap time on it. I think if you put him on that bike on an 'advanced' track day, he would be lapping some modern day superbikes.

Competition regulations changed between the late 20's and early 50's, a supercharged 500cc with about 70-75 HP vs an NA 500cc producing 55-60 HP, that difference can obviously void the handicap of not having any suspension ;) (As a comparison, a BRM Grand Prix (Formula 1 predecessor) car from 1955 had a supercharged 1500cc V16 giving out 450-600 HP, but 1965 they used 200 HP NA 1500 cc Engines)
I think Troy deserved the rider/driver of the meeting for this outstanding performance . What is not mentioned is this bike is turbocharged. So in addition to the hand gear change, zero suspension the turbo lag adds to the challenge.
Troy Corser rode the WSBK championship in it's most competitive era with Fogarty, Slight, Kocinski, Kagayama, Chili, Edwards, Bayliss all battling it out and he would've definitely won more world titles had he been in another era. The way he is manhandling that 85 year old BMW with no suspension, drum brakes, skinny tyres, shifting using the left hand taking it off the handlebar, shows how naturally gifted a rider he is!

What a rider Troy you make it look so easy 🤩
That old BMW has the most beautiful sound 😉👍
im sure that BMW could beat a moto3 bike or maybe even a first gen R6
All due respect to those old beemers and Troy Corser but those 1st gen R6's are one hell of a bike. I had an absolute mint 13,000 miler, carbed, kcuffing awesome machine, I know it would lay waste to the old beemer.
LOL
Brilliant... this is how gentlemen race... with respect, but still giving it all and having fun.
5:34 "We all say it's for fun until the flag drops and just amazing how your attitude immediately changes, it's quite pathetic really."
Gotta love it!!!!!! 🤪🤪🤪
This gave me the best laugh I've had in a very long time!
People around me are asking "what's so funny" so I shared this with them.
Cheeky 😂
Those bikes sound amazing!
