How did Abrupt Decay hit Huntmaster of the Fells at 20:44? Huntmaster's total cost is 2 colorless, a red, and a green... isn't that a converted cost of 4?
No, you play Restoration Angel, then play Fiend Hunter targeting it, then flicker the fiend hunter with a second Angel, returning the first one and exiling the second. The first one then re-exiles the fiend hunter, and the loop continues.
Abrupt Decay destroys a non land permanent with a converted mana cost of 3 or less. Huntmaster of the fells converted mana cost is 4, if I am not mistaken. How did they allow that? 29:50
11 years late reply. Its was an old rule before that the transformed side (Ravager of the Fells) is 0 CMC so its targetable by Abrupt Decay. But now going by the current rules, this is not the case, Ravager of the Fells is also 4 CMC (hence cannot be abrupt decay-ed).
I understand that, the first time I read your comment, I just skimmed over it and thought you were talking about a restoration angel loop, my apologies.
Because all of Ochoa's removal is instant speed, and if he's got it, the kiln fiend dies in response to the blessing, and when the thoughseize resolve, Ochoa gets an additional card from his hand.
if i see you with a germ token, chances are you are playing mortarpod or batterskull. if i see you with angel tokens, chances are you are playing entreat the angels or geist of saint traft. same goes for spirits or goblins etc. get it?
@7:39 the screen goes green for me. It corrects itself at around 7:53. I was gong to bitch about it, but it's fine now. Thanks for all the coverage of the events, guys!
4 Angel of Jubilation 4 Emancipation Angel 4 Herald of War 4 Restoration Angel 4 Serra Avenger 4 Sublime Archangel 4 Fiend Hunter 4 Oblivion Ring 2 Angel of Serenity 4 Seraph Sanctuary 22 Plains Not that good of a list, but it an gain infinite life with seraph sanctuary, plus 2 restoration angels and a fiend hunter. Pretty expensive money wise, though.
because guttersnipe doesn't do anything when it enters play, is considered a "Win-more" card and doesn't pull you out of a losing situation. And with so many bigger creatures or 1-mana or 2-mana answers is not worth the 3 mana investment
I love Brad Nelson and Gerry Thompson, but that Nivmagus deck just seems bad. How does it even beat a Jund deck? It literally needs the god draw. Infect seems like the best way to go about this hyper-instant-voltron business. I just don't see any advantage that this has over Infect. Again, still a big fan of Nelson and Thompson, but this was an odd deck choice.
They're having fun and doing what they're passionate about. Plus the fact that they have the cards are go to tourneys shows that they most likely have a steady job. I'd be proud of my kid if they were like that.
Why wouldn't you hold the blessing? Best the defending player can do is either put up a blocker or try to remove it.. Seems odd No doubt these guys are good, but that seems odd to me.
Brad Nelson should have probably realized in Game 1 that he couldn't play around removal and Liliana. If he went for 9 on the first swing he could have gone for 11 on the second swing and won.
Not sure if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can watch all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my gf for the last few days xD
cant you just bring your tokens face-down with you? you dont have to stick your tokens in your opponents face right xD actual cards for Tokens look much better imo (especially 'selfmade' altered tokens so they fit to your liking) but I can understand that some pros dont care about that anymore Most players start playing because they like the cards. And later the only thing they care for is to win.
well they could leave them in their freakking card box and only take them out when they need them. But what I really don't understand is why the judges don't have the token cards... instead they are playing with these messed up advertisement cards... soo bad.
Those advertisement cards they use as tokens are provided by MTG, even though it is their responsibility to provide the right token cards when it is needed, not the players. Instead they settle for those janky looking advertisement cards that you get from booster packs.....and this is supposed to be pro tour.... facepalm.jpg
love the smile/respect they have for one another it makes me happy
Brad Nelson is that skilled pro that in essence still builds how we all build during our first 2 years of playing magic. TO HAVE A FUN GOOD TIME. 😄
I miss this version of Modern
RTR was just a crazy good time in magic all around tbh
Absolutely
How did Abrupt Decay hit Huntmaster of the Fells at 20:44? Huntmaster's total cost is 2 colorless, a red, and a green... isn't that a converted cost of 4?
When it's flipped it's cmc is 0

it's weird how professional this looks.
Not sure, They might not be able to bring their own. I've always found it quite odd as well :/
30.10 How did they Abruct decay take out the huntmaster? It's converted manacost is 4?!
Why'd Brad chuck the Apostle's Blessing? Does he have burn in his deck? It would've saved his creature from a threat he knew his opponent had.
Because all of Ochoa's removal is instant speed, and if he's got it, the kiln fiend dies in response to the blessing, and when the thoughseize resolve, Ochoa gets an additional card from his hand.
Yeah, no problem. It's pretty complicated, I didn't understand it the first time I read about it.
Huntmaster is a four cost. Ravager, however, has no mana cost. He's considered a separate creature
The flipped side of the card (Ravager of the Fells) cmc is 0.
what does he ask Gerry at 22:53? If anyone knows please answer cuz I'm curious as to what is going on
It was transformed into Ravager of the fells at the time, which has a zero mana cost. One of the weird things about Werewolf Cards.
What are the cards getting "sacrificed" at 2:07?
****Newsflash****
It's not live.
You can skip the shuffling.
is good to see Brad at this top again !
Brad Nelson's Enourmous Everything Vs. David Ochoa's Witty Nerd Swag. What a treat at 2:42 in the morning.
Yeah, weird thing to see him actually play. ;)
that hurts hearing a level 4 judge mistakenly think that Storm triggers are cast
Can you send me a link, mate? I can't find it.
Are there any pro blue mill deck players in these tournaments?
They're shufflingggg ... and they're shufflingggg .... and HEY .. oh. They're shuffling.
Ocho's mustache was obviously the winner here
if i see you with a germ token, chances are you are playing mortarpod or batterskull. if i see you with angel tokens, chances are you are playing entreat the angels or geist of saint traft. same goes for spirits or goblins etc. get it?

if it was flipped (not all the way through video) its converted mana cost is 0 cause it is no longer huntmaster of the fells
Conley playing in the back and they're covering Ochoa vs. Nelson ._.
Last January if I'm not mistaken
RSP he was offering to change language lands but those werent gerrys
Wait a second, wasn't Brad complaining about how unplayable nivmagus elemental was?! :S
when was Bloodbraid Elf banned on Modern?
where can i find brad's deck list?
Hey can somebody show me a really good standard legal mono white angel deck
their parents must be so proud...
They turned the volume up!!!
4 Angel of Jubilation
4 Emancipation Angel
4 Herald of War
4 Restoration Angel
4 Serra Avenger
4 Sublime Archangel
4 Fiend Hunter
4 Oblivion Ring
2 Angel of Serenity
4 Seraph Sanctuary
22 Plains
Not that good of a list, but it an gain infinite life with seraph sanctuary, plus 2 restoration angels and a fiend hunter. Pretty expensive money wise, though.
On the deck tech with Gerry Thompson
because guttersnipe doesn't do anything when it enters play, is considered a "Win-more" card and doesn't pull you out of a losing situation. And with so many bigger creatures or 1-mana or 2-mana answers is not worth the 3 mana investment
they also explained it at 29:10
Holy Shit. It's Brad Nelson!
Yeah I was really happy to see a non-Jund deck win.
Thoughtsieze?
I love Brad Nelson and Gerry Thompson, but that Nivmagus deck just seems bad. How does it even beat a Jund deck? It literally needs the god draw. All of your spells are cantrips so they either cost only 1 or 0 mana so you'll get in for insane damage.
I love the elemental combo deck
I came for the hat, stayed for the magic game-play.
most tokens are almost a dollar a piece
Floch's play at 30:10...booya
They're having fun and doing what they're passionate about. Plus the fact that they have the cards are go to tourneys shows that they most likely have a steady job. I'd be proud of my kid if they were like that.
It had transformed, Ravager of the Fells has a converted mana cost of 0.
ahhhh, i see, i just thought it would keep huntmasters manacost and be safe and sound. But thanks :)
omagad, somebody played with my baby Nivmagus :D
If you do your opponent knows what tokens your deck can produce.
Why wouldn't you hold the blessing? Best the defending player can do is either put up a blocker or try to remove it.. Seems odd
No doubt these guys are good, but that seems odd to me.
Thank Crom for that :)
Dat hat ._. I need one.
I found a Brad Nelson!
9:00 "I dont even know what most of these cards do". So quit so we can have a host who has a clue.
How times have changed since then. You can tell MTG coverage was still kinda amateurish in 2012.
huntemater has a 4 mana cost but ravager of the fells dont have mana cost thats why that play is legal :)
Brad Nelson should have probably realized in Game 1 that he couldn't play around removal and Liliana. If he went for 9 on the first swing he could have gone for 11 on the second swing and won.
O love magic.
It's not taken like that by other players though. It's just a habit most magic players have after playing competitive magic for a while.
If you can't beat them, join them.
love you brad
i only clicked on this because i saw brad nelson
conley woods ivan floch was an interesting game
nelson had kill if he used blessing on turn 2 swing for 9 then kill turn 3 after using gut shot swinging for 11
+rick grimes But that puts his creature at risk to a kill spell.
alrite man, if you say so.
Its easier to use dices.
Needs more assault strobe
cause noone uses tokens using die is just easier
or the video could end...
I love how no one makes eye contact, lmao.
Not sure if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can watch all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my gf for the last few days xD
@Logan Ivan yup, I have been using Instaflixxer for months myself =)
cant you just bring your tokens face-down with you? you dont have to stick your tokens in your opponents face right xD
actual cards for Tokens look much better imo (especially 'selfmade' altered tokens so they fit to your liking)
but I can understand that some pros dont care about that anymore
Most players start playing because they like the cards. And later the only thing they care for is to win.
Round One: Jund vs. Jund.
Immediately skip.
Round Two: Turn 1 Nivmagus Elemental.
I'm listening.
up to 1 target creature buddy. 0 is less than 1.
GO BRAD!!!
well they could leave them in their freakking card box and only take them out when they need them.
But what I really don't understand is why the judges don't have the token cards... instead they are playing with these messed up advertisement cards... soo bad.
since they printed Liliana of the Veil! lol
how is it that ur a scrub?
when it flips its 0
What a bad beat for Conley. Rips the island off the Serum Vision like a pro.
WHY IS CONLEY PLAYING JUND T_T YOU WERE THE CHOSEN OOONNEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BEAT JUND NOT JOIN IT!!
also game 2 brad could of put ochoa under huge pressure by attacking for 15 on turn 3 but he clearly doesnt know how to play the deck
The fucking fedora...
Restoration angel only bounces non angel permanents
these guys are 20?! I'm their age and i still look like a 17 year old. this is BS :(
No, not really.
Looks like alot of experimenting in modern. Wierd seeing games take so many turns.
Justin Bieber?
i hear principal skinners lol
no
come on Gerry Thompson, you finally top 8 a pro tour and dressed up like a doush bag in the feature match erea
jund jund jundy jund jund
Those advertisement cards they use as tokens are provided by MTG, even though it is their responsibility to provide the right token cards when it is needed, not the players. Instead they settle for those janky looking advertisement cards that you get from booster packs.....and this is supposed to be pro tour.... facepalm.jpg
Good job you 2 plz teach me jk
brad contradicts himself all the time....however, you seen how far nivmagus got them lol
