G review’s “The Mechanism” or “O Mecanismo”
It’s a Brazilian series from the creator of Narcos based on the book Lava Jato. The Mechanism is based on the true life events about the corruption surrounding money laundering in Brazil with various major oil companies and the police team trying to take it all down all while being up against the launders, oil companies, politicians and their own Government. This is also something still going on right now after all these years! The investigation was called Operation Car Wash and it is as larger than life as it is convoluted. In fact more information and findings have come up and are in the press as I am watching the show!
If you liked Narcos and are looking for something a bit more complicated then this is for you, what is crazier is the fact that more and more stuff is coming to life so many years after the real event and even after the show was released. It’s tough to really look as something that is still affecting the Brazilian people and I think it’s worth doing some research yourselves to get the full scope.

We speak portuguese 🤗
Isabella Marini I sincerely apologize, I should have checked my video more. I hope you still enjoy my review
Wee speak Tupi language
kkkkkkkkkkkk Tupi language, I loved it!
Faby Bandeira Tupi roots here, baby!
kkkkk ele tava indo tão bem ...
Great review about The Mecanism. Just a little touch: Brazilians speaks Portuguese, not Spanish, but don't worry, it's a commom mistake.
Lastrid S unfortunately its a big mistake, I tried adding a disclaimer in the description but it's not helping haha thank you for checking out my review! How did you like the show?
Thank you for replying. Yes, I loved it. It's very complicated as the corruption goes more technological on these days. The bright side is how they took from a little evidence to get a big Government "cartel". I think they will have lots of episodes ahead. Now Jet Wash Operation is getting the 50th phase in Brazil. So more to come... enjoy the show and keep watching :-)
Lastrid S its that one thread that unravels everything. They have so much real life situations to use for subsequent season, it's incredible!
Yeap and we have to watch out many Countries that have the same patern as Brazil ...
Lastrid S I imagine that Brazil is not the only country going through this
portuguese*
Alberto Youssef is the real name of ibrahim.
MrLeossleo oh gotcha, do you know of any other characters in the show they changed? I know jpr was one, and most if not all of the companies too.
I'm starting to do more research for myself on the subject. I'm blown away
There is a famous quote here: "Brazil is not for amateur."
Almost everybody on the show is based on real persons.
Ruffo is the police officer Gerson Machado
Verena Cardoni is the police officer Erika Marena
Ibrahim is Alberto Youssef
Judge Paulo Rigo is Judge Sergio Moro
João Pedro Rangel is a former director from Petrobras (Petrobrasil on the show)
The Senator Lúcio Lemes is Aécio Neves
Janete Ruscov is our former president Dilma Rouseff
João Higino is our other former president Lula
Ricardo Brecht is Marcelo Odebrecht in real life, and the real company’s name is Odebrecht
Samuel Thames is our actual president Michel Temer
Oh cool, Ive been learning more of the real names the more I've been researching this case. It's absolutely crazy!
João Pedro Rangel is a former director from Petrobras CALLED Paulo Roberto Costa
Nice job. Good review... I was looking for foreign opinions about the mechanism... A thing that i found funny were when you speak about to read subtitles and the amount of information. Hahaha. As a brazilian we know well what is it. Because 99% of the netflix contents isn't portuguese... I watch so many series and movies with subtitle that it isn't a problem anymore hahaha. It's a revenge.
Joao Marcos Lima Barboza thank you! I apologize for my mistake when I said Spanish subtitles instead of Portuguese. Most of the time I have no problem keeping up however given the scope of what its based on it needed the exposition and I'd rather rewind than deal with dubbing hahaha
Hey! I'm from Brazil. It's a shame for our country the events of the serie. But the serie it's awesome! Tnks
Brazilians are showing the way for the world to take down the elite corrupt establishment. It can be done. It is being done. Obrigado!
In the description box you wrote: "Lava Jotto". The correct name is Lava Jato, that means "Car Wash". Good review, I also think some voice overs were difficult to follow and I speak portuguese.
kateFGMP oops thank you for pointing that out!
Its more like "Jet Wash".
Spanish? Brasil is not Florida..
Vale a pena conhecer o trabalho dele.
Matt Niedzwiedz nuca li tanta merda , parabéns superou todos
And, as a brazilian, I can say: you will not believe the things that are yet to come. Um real life, I think is even crazier.
Rodrigo Teixeira the comments in this video alone have been creating an incredible story, I've read a few more articles as well but i have a the equivalent of a teaspoon worth of knowledge and this thing is an ocean
Rodrigo Teixeira do you feel the show represents a good starting point for people that are unaware of the whole scope of the situation?
Yes, I do. In fact, I think the whole point of Jose Padilha is trying to make the world understand what's going on in Brazil. He's doing that since the two Elite Squad movies. And in The Mechanism, he digs deeper in the situation. The risk he takes is using too much expository lines, or voice overs, but I think he does that thinking in people who are unaware of the situation. In Brazil, the show is generating a huge buzz between the politics and people portraied in the series, because even with their names changed, we know EXACTLY who's who in real life.
Rodrigo Teixeira that's incredible and vital to getting this situation out to the public. I really enjoyed Narcos but this is on another level because it's still ongoing. That's why i would re wind certain scenes because the information given was huge.
Marco Ruffo x Gerson Machado (Delegado)
Roberto Ibrahim x Alberto Youssef (doleiro)
Verena Cardoni x Erika Marena (Delegada)
João Pedro Rangel x Paulo Roberto da Costa (Presidente da Petrobrás)
Janete Ruscov x Presidente Dilma Roussef
João Higino x Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da SIlva
Paulo Rigo x Sérgio Moro (Juiz)
Senador Lúcio Lemes x Aécio Neves (Partido de Direita)
Wilma Kitano x Nelma Kodama (Cafetina)
Ricardo Brecht x Marcelo Odebrecht (Presidente da maior empreiteira envolvida)
This series is causing a big stir in Brazil. It seems the more the politicians portrayed in the show throw a tantrum about it the more people watch it. I've heard about the series on the news after our former president wrote an open letter to Netflix saying they are spreading fake news. I think the whole fiction thing got lost on her.
Brazil is not for amateur. Even i, that live here, got surprised with the facts showed. Your review was great, and your channel is very good too. Keep going! !
(Sorry if i did some mistakes, i am almost finishing my english course)
Riquess honestly my friend, you made fewer mistakes than most people that natively speak English so all I can say is bravo! Thank you very much for your kind words as well, I'm happy you enjoyed my review and the channel!
Ps. Congratulations on almost completing your English course!
The EF Word thank you!!
English dubbed version is available and Rufo is dubbing his own voice.
brazilian politics is on another level in the house of cards game huhuhu
MM4CDDK that's what I'm gathering myself from all the comments here
politics here are set on the hardcore mode hauehauheuae
we had 8 presidents after the military dictatorship, of those 8, 3 were vice presidents, and later presidents, and they are all of the same party
btw, the lead actor dubed himself in english
MM4CDDK oh wow thats crazy!
VERY UNESSESSRY SEX SCENNES... APART FROM THE FRIST. This is not spoiler.
Great review! (But we don’t speak spanish, man, c’mon! Hahaha)
Subbed your channel!
Rodrigo Rezende haha I know, total bonehead move on my part and I apologize for that. I added a quick disclaimer to my description but it was still a big mistake! Happy you enjoyed my review and thank you so much for the sub!
Hahahah It's totally ok! Your review is amazing
Rodrigo Rezende thank you so much! And thank you for understanding 😊
Watched and thought it was so boring....the narrative felt so childish and the characters were extremely black and white.
It's not a conspiracy, it's a real scandal. Only very few things are still a conspiracy.
To whoever willing to watch it, this show is not propaganda. It's a ongoing masterpiece who try to show what is happening in Brazil - And the stuff happening here are way more interesting than House of Cards, just saying. There are some people accusing the show for being right-wing propaganda, because they had a left-wing character saying something that the real guy didn't say, but it's minimal and doesn't matter at all.
This show is about this mechanism that creates this cycle of corruption. It doesn't matter who is in charge.
About tem subtitles... Welcome to brazilians world! We always have to read it... But if you pay attention to the option of english language the voices are also original... the same actors did it!
Brazil Paralelo is better tha Mecanismo ! But infortunatelly does not have english subtitles.
People watch house of cards and think, man this fiction is the worst case of unethical and criminal politics in USA. It does not hold a candle to real life Brazil...
In Brazil we speak Portuguese and not Spanish. (It is a common mistake)
Renata Marco omg you are totally right, I'm apologize for that mistake!
Just so you know it, this series is dubbed into 20 languages. English is one of them. In fact, the two actors that play the main characts dubbed themselves into English! So, you don't have to read subtitles.
Elias Barbosa oh I know, but Id rather rewind a bit and keep it feeling as authentic as possible than have dubbing cause it drives me nutz. Also with or without dubbing there is a ton of exposition early on but it's a very complicated story
Hi i'm brazilian and i loved your review!
Thiago Lopes thank you so much!
Its a real story! The diretor only change the names. Yeah, have a lot Of Voice over. We, The brazilians, don't understand 100% too. Because it's very complex. The serie have a huge impact in our Society... The people are crazy about this
Renato Arléo Filho I believe it, it's incredible how big this is. I am blown away
Dude, TODAY our general said that "he is ready to fight", so if you think that this seasons is really amazing, the next season ( if the show continue like the real facts that are really happening here in Brazil) YOU WILL FUCKING BLOW YOU MIND about how Brazil is completely fucked up by these politicians
ChromeOS Brasil holy shit, that's so crazy!
Oh no... the review was going so good... except the fact we don't speak Spanish Haha ... it's Portuguese.
Ya I apologize for that it was a real ignorant mistake on my part.
For all that are already aware of the Lava Jato (every Brazilian) is it funny how good each actor could interpret the real political and businessmans :D using, of course, false names..
Loooove this show and am exited about the second season. *____ *
Search for:
Lula triplex
and
Sergio Moro (judge Paulo Rigo in the show)
to get a little into the story. ^^
Probably they will show this side of the Lava Jato in the next season. o/
Kim JS oh cool I'll look those up for sure! Thanks!
I would like to have portuguese subtitles here to try to understand what you're saying in this video (sorry for my bad English)
Guitardo Songs haha did I talk too fast? too much? Or all of the above?
We speak spanish and our capital is Buenos Aires. NO u.
Stop to make that mistake ! We speak portuguese !!!
This is exactly the problem. Thinking that it's possible to understand what is going on in Brazil based on this show. Reality is definitely NOT being portrayed there. Just take as fiction, or to be clear: manipulation tool!
Leonardo de Araújo I definitely understand how this could be a negative after talking with many others here on both ends of the spectrum. I think it's important that people need to use this as a starting point to really research the truth.
We speak Portuguese, caralho!!!!!
I love that foreigners are taking more interest in Brazilian politics! I loved your comments and your interest. Good job!
Ps: if you want, I can recommend you some Brazilian websites so that you can translate them and get a better and deeper understanding of the matter.
Júlia Mansur its a compelling and tragic situation and yes I would love some recommendations!
Ibrahim was obviously based on Tea Bag, from Prison Break.
Jay Bellini haha oh man what a deep cut from Prison Break! Well played!
The operation car wash is currently on its 50th phase, the mechanism goes til phase 7
There's a long way ahead and the operation is still ongoing (probably not even close to an end)
Malu 50?! Holy crap, well I guess this show has a lot more content to work with going forward
eheheheheh ! Yes ! We Are all here !!!
Quickest way to lose the brazilians is to think they speak spanish x)
Walder Frey of the Twins. Absolutely it is, luckily a few have given me the benefit of the doubt. Definitely a mistake on my part
I loved your review. I am from Brazil and even for me the first three episodes were very complex and slow with to many information. I also think the show improves a lot in the second half of the season. After the events presented in the show a lot happened here so this investigation realy change our history. There is a lot be told yet.
Renan Martins thank you so much. Ya there is so much to unpack and a lot is the behind the scenes things happening in real life.
Great
😊
It is portuguese
great review
Nice review!
Lucas Cunha thank you!
quem é ? "abraham" ? who is abraham ?
IBRAHIM !
ACHEI
I just watched that video to see if that that Series would raise biased opinions. The guy really believe that the sereis is based on facts. He didn't know about Banestado and situation. Nowadays. That guy probably has a narrow view about Latin American as us unfortunately. The series in Brazil cause a lot protests, people new it's not accurate. And it's a simplistic form of (not) explainig a complex situations: the structural corruption in Brazil.
Patrícia Rubim is it true that the show is being boycotted by people in Brazil? A few people here have mentioned that. Seems to be quite polarizing
Yes, some people ended their Netflix account, some people only gave a low "score" to the series. There's a lot of opinion that are based on left or right wingers people here. But a lot of people criticized Padilha because he mix past corruption case from right wing party, hi put a quote of a right wing politician as a line of a left wing politician... So part of the audience who is very vulnerable to fake news or has no ways to check 90s corruption scandals in Brazil can't notice the problems on Padilla's work... Some right wingers like it mostly because it hurts the most popular and successfull leftist party in Brazil, they don't care about if the scandal had something to do with the PSDB (one of the most popular right wing party). All point of view are biased, first we have to admit that, than we can make a good critic about everything.
Patrícia Rubim oh wow, I have been seeing many people calling this a propaganda piece
The EF Word People are saying that mostly because 2018 is a presidential elections' year. So it seems as a propaganda piece. It's going to influence the voters for sure.
Patrícia Rubim so you feel it will influence it for the worse?
We speak portugueses
Kkkk
THE THIEVES, ARE VERY MUCH !
it's a real scandal in brazil, it shows that corruption is a big problem
Natalia Rodrigues after watching this I have been reading more and more about it and I am stunned. I cannot believe I didnt know about this until now
I liked your review!
Hello, spanish is different than spanish.
?
Did you watch the series with audio in Portuguese? There is audio dubbed in English too.
PedroECalvo i know but I don't get as much of an authentic feel with English dubbing, I'd rather rewind than water down
Great video
Hey, Bro. I'm Brazilian. First: we do not speak spanish. Second: great Review anyways. Also, as anything on Brazil, the hole is for sure a Lot deeper. The season covers Just the Little begining of everything. Spoiler: Odebrecht "Ricardo Brecht " on the season is on jail, and since that good old times there was being some bags of money thrown out of windows and sh*t
De pouco um Tudo thank you for understanding, I apologize if I offended. The more I'm reading into this the crazier it gets, like what you just said is straight out of a movie script but it's actually happening!
The EF Word yeah, but u didn't ofend me. That's a Very como mistake, the spanish thing. I would not mention It If I had read the other coments on that input.
De pouco um Tudo to be fair, if I triple checked my work it wouldn't be an issue in the first place haha
Thx a lot ur review was incredible!!
Waleska Castro thank you so much! Did you like the show?
The EF Word , actually I’m still starting to watch, but is a very good drama, with strong characters.
Waleska Castro oh awesome, well would love to hear your thoughts when your done!
The EF Word sure , as soon as I finish I’ll answer you.
PS: I’m Brazilian.
Waleska Castro very cool, can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Great review 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Ronaldo Guedes thank you so much!
You know nothing, Jon Snow.
Roody Andress you're not wrong
WoW! I didn't Know it was being shown in the US. Nice! (despite the fact that it's a shame what the series show us).
Good review. Congratulations.
About the series content:
- The corruption problem at the high level here in Brazil is not a workers party invention. This is very old here and people still fail in realizing it (or don't want to).
- We live in a historical plutocracy that always used corruption as a tool. People fail in realizing this too. All the system is compromised. Politicians, big companies, banks and business man. Sounds like a conspiracy theory, but unfortunately, it's true.
André Figueiredo thank you so much! I have heard many opinions from many people in the comments, how do you feel about the show itself?
The EF Word I didnt watch the last chapter yet, but it's good until here. Some characters/actors are great, like Ibrahim, my favorite. The approach is very realistic, almost a documentary, not a movie, and to me it's great (in this case). And despite the fact they put a very important sentence in Higino's mouth, that in real life was told by other politician - and people say the series is propaganda against the workers party because of that- I don't see the show taking sides. It's exposing everybody like they are: corrupts. (but they should have avoided doing that mistake)
Considering I read all the major news about this case when it happened - but there were so many, that's difficult to remember everything - it's amazing how the series still keeps us, Brazilians, interested.
There are some flaws, unfortunately. Rufo's voice in the first episode is impossible to understand and the famale narrative - 2nd episode? - is boring as hell.
It's a pitty that to you, non Brazilians, it can't be as interesting as it is to us, because we know the characters! I mean, the real persons.
I hope they make a second season, and maybe more, about what happened after - and is still happening (discoveries, people being arrested, maneuvers at the high level and so on).
André Figueiredo great analysis! Based on the real life events I would be very surprised if it doesn't get a 2nd season.
For me like many foreign shows I have been fortunate enough to come across, it has opened my eyes to another world and honestly something I never knew existed like what is and has been going on in Brazil all these years. This show was interesting on its own but I'll tell you, the comments from people have been astounding, definitely divisive and there are so many perspectives that I think everyone should read.
I can understand both sides and I think it's important for viewers to really research it (as I have started to) to at least get some perspective on what is going on in the world.
If you like content that informes about other realities (non US productions) and at the same time are a lot of fun I would recommend the movie "Tropa de Elite" (Elite Squad). The director is José Padilha, the same one that created "O mecanismo". A very, very raw and brutal portrait of Rio de Janeiro´s police elite squad actions in the slums of the city, its training and problems in general. To non brazilians, maybe, it can look exagerated, but it´s not. Things are ugly the way they are shown in the movie. Really great actors performances and a excelent movie. Just do a favor to yourself and watch it with the original sound, in portuguese, with English subtitles. Bellow links to IMDB with a trailer.
