The colony prevalence setting is a bit misunderstood, you control the number of colonizable planet with the number of planet setting, you control the QUALITY of planets with the "prevalence" setting. So going lower means that all planets in the universe will get -X quality. I was also fooled by this and was thinking you got 10 good planets on normal, but then reduced the number by a few planets by changing the setting, but no, the damn setting ruins ALL planets instead and remove the possibility of having good ones in the universe. You also make the game super easy mode for the player, as we are way better at dealing with that.
Oh the prevalence is definitely misunderstood by me too then! I just played for 3 more hrs and found out that other races were incapable of even colonizing a single planet so I will start from scratch. Thank you for this explanation. AI completely bogged down by lowering prevalence and range to 150.
