This seems like a Houston of maybe a Texas problem. Which I now have to deal with and I hate it. I've lived in other states and property taxes stay relatively the same every year. Houston's government is so currupt it's unbelievable. Where's all the money going? There's high crime, lazy police, dangerous driving, terrible roads, garbage/litter on the sides every road and on the roads, etc etc etc. There needs to be an audit for the appraisal district and every department related to them. I mean many if not most people live in an HOA like I do, and the HOA takes care of everything in the communities. So what does the goverment even have left to pay for?
Fort Bend County has ALWAYS been ridiculous to work with and I have been gone from there for over 24 years!!!! That explanation is absolutely pathetic. There is no way you should be taxed on REPLACEMENT VALUE!!! IF, God forbid you had to replace your home due to fire or storm or WHATEVER, and you rebuilt on that same spot, THEN your taxes would probably TRIPLE because of new construction. I would call the State Comptroller's office and ask for some guidance to file a protest.
Here’s what they should change, number one, get rid of the cap on appraisals. Number 2, apply a cap on how much your annual taxes can increase. A lot of states have this. Say your value doubled, doesn’t matter, what you pay cannot increase more than say 2%-3% a year.

Replacement cost is an insurance measurement not an appraisal tool. I'm in Fort Bend and this is frustrating.
By that logic, a 2004 car should be appraised at new car replacement cost.

appraisal increased for me by 23%. INSANE
Had to fight. They said I had $xx,xxx amount of money of land. What LAND DO I OWN?
