THE. CREATIVE. BRIEF. Oh man, so good. By the way, Josh and Crysten from Hamilton say hello - we were over there shooting yesterday. SO much good stuff to come.
Love this series!!!! You guys rock. Sending thanks to Josh and Crysten for allowing us to walk through their process with them and view into their world. They have a great product, love the whole family and heritage vibe! Living in Austin, I'm seeing a lot of these types of new products, beer, beverages, snacks. We have a facebook group for the CPG community and a whole startup for these types of businesses. sku.is/ and www.builtinaustin.com/company/sku. I wander around the stores seeing all the new packaged goods, beverage labels, beer. It's daunting. I see so many new salsas and products that don't have good design and wonder how they will stand out on the shelf. Here's an Austin sparkling water that's new and rocks the branding process, jumps off the shelf, too ramblersparklingwater.com/
How is this free? This is amazing content! I am studying Brand Design and not only are these videos a sum up of my 6 modules I'vee been through, but I actually learnt and understood more through the videos than from my teachers' lectures. Thank you so much for making these!
That is also i was thinking! I got this idea from a paid course and it was just the aurface. But this series., deep dive and really detailed. So much value The Futur 😎🔥🔥🔥
The common pattern I've seen with any formal classes on any subject is that they only offer theory and nothing practical. People have an idea of what a "class" is and content is designed to fit into that structure. But in terms of actually learning something you can use, simply watching someone do their job for a day is often going to be far more useful than taking a class for a full semester.
Not only is this a great series for Creatives, but clients / businesses should be watching this to better understand what goes into creating a brand. Great job!
Yea I love this series, it's like a case study x 100 because you feel like you are in the room during the process. There's lot to pick out and learn from. Building a brand should definitely be a regular series. Also Mathew and Ben have great chemistry.
Retro vs Heritage, according to our friend Google: Retro - imitative of a style, fashion, or design from the recent past (to me: nostalgic, stuck in the past, kind of kitsch) Heritage - denoting a traditional brand or product regarded as emblematic of fine craftsmanship (to me: beyond trends, timeless, a bit rustic) ...not the same vibe! :) Also, I LOVE this show! How do you manage to make real work so entertaining? I could watch you for hours. I love you guys, please, keep being awesome!
Absolutely the most OUTSTANDING series I have EVER seen on RUclips by far. These Client projects are GOLD in terms of real world education. WELL DONE The Futur for providing us a sneak peak inside... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU from one ever grateful freelance designer in Western Australia. I keep thinking - am I seriously watching this for free - then I remember the best Marie Forleo + Tom Bilyeu advice - always be of service... Love your work + please keep it coming xxx
This show is perfect for anyone in the “service” industry. In some way, shape or form we are designing and creating solutions for and building lasting relationships with our clients. This step-process is awesome. Like climbing a ladder - step 1 getting to know them, step 2 what do they want, step 3 designing/creating what they ask for (and more). Can’t wait... 🙏🏽
For few months I was looking for brand designing and developing process and was watching most of the videos on this channel for couple of weeks and BOOM! You guys started this series 'Building a Brand'. I am so happy to see the process behind branding and really thankful to you guys @thefutur @chrisdo @mrbenburns @matthewencina for putting such content out there. It really helps a lot. Looking forward to see next episode and to go deep dive into this creative process.
I just found this series. As a corporate graphic designer who doesn't have a team, I SO LOVE THIS! Thank you for providing this content for us all to learn and grow from. Thank you for inspiring us.
This has to be the best series yet! Young guns and this show are my top 2. I love seeing the entire process from start to finish. It really gives us student designers insight on what's to come in the futur!
I'm a graphic design student from the Philippines and because of the current circumstances, our classes are now moved to online. Personally, it's tough learning online, but you guys make it easier for me. I have a notebook with me while watching to take notes too. REALLY BIG THANKS GUYS! I hope you make more of this stuff.
This kind of episode is my favorite! I think the whole process of building a brand is extremely exciting. Really nailing down what the client is about and what they represent, then finding a visual solution for their needs that also makes them incredibly proud of their product. I love research and design and branding combines them both. So so fun, and incredibly inspiring.
As a beginner designer....or rather someone who's been an 'amateur' graphic designer for YEEEAAARRRS...because...idk why, I am very happy to see the creative brief, the design process, and the discussion/brainstorming activities. Makes me feel a lot more comfortable with myself and be less afraid of pursuing design as a career. I must find an agency to work with, contribute to, and learn from. Thanks guys.
This by far shows just how important a creative brief can be the backbone to success or failure. Can't wait to see the next episode and what will be presented.
This is effectively showing me how to use the tools I've learned from college. Something I wish I got when I was paying an arm and a leg, if it weren't for this channel I think my confidence would be way lower - keep it up! Can't wait for the next episode
@@MatthewEncina @mrbenburns also effectively reassuring about the parts of my process that I'm seemingly correct about while learning about the ones that are NOT being effectively brought into play as a young designer!
What's funny is that my art school was the opposite. All of the technical skills we basically had to teach ourselves, instead they focused on process and high concept design thinking. I literally had a class my freshman year centered around this entire process (though we applied it to more than just brand identity).
I've passed on this series to a distillery in the Los Angeles area. Not saying they will approach you for a project, but they think it's a great insight for them to better understand their own packaging/branding. Cheers guys and much respect to the Hamilton team for letting the rest of see inside their business too.
This is your best series yet!! I want to see the nitty gritty. The actual work and steps and less theory. I love that you are breaking this down in steps and explaining the process and thinking behind everything.
Loving this as it helps new people and older people in the industry actually see what they need to be focusing on from logo design to building a brand or even just doing small projects.. It really helps to see this all flowing together to get a scope of what we should be aiming for.
I think it’s brilliant what you guys are doing by having this kind of content out there for designers and creatives to learn from and to get a feel for how a brand is built. I think there’s a lot of creatives who don’t get a chance to see the entire process of building a brand. I it’s great what you guys are doing for creatives around the world. I appreciate all your efforts. Thank You All! Chris Do , Ben Burns, the whole team, you guys rock!
This is fascinating!! I agree..."retro" denotes temporary, often "fun" fads from distinct short eras; "heritage" denotes timelessness, longevity, & dependability that outlasts fads and eras.
Great insights. I like how Mathew brings it together in a concise way, like a good Creative Director does, and how the AD and the Designers described their process of how they go about their tasks.
This is just a fantastic series. Clients often have no idea of the complexity of designing a good logo and how important highly specific communication is.
What I missed here a little bit, was the aspect that you are talking about a craft brewery that is constantly experimenting and changing their sortiment, which is, for example, completely unlike Erdinger Weißbier straight out of the bavarian outback. The logo and brand needs to work on all those different freaky flavors - and on classics. And there was some pretty freaky stuff, like Stawberry milkshake and stuff that could properly kill a german. That said, I got a Ben & Jerry's for Beer vibe from it and I translate that with colors, a lot of them, and less with typefaces. Seeing the stuff he has drawn over the time, I thought of tattoos in that moment. They are always different. There are classics, some a freaky colorful, but all of them are "lasting". And "lasting" is the keyword that I hear from the briefing. He wants his beer to stick out. You come for the people, you stay for the beer, you come back for the taste. A lasting memory that you come back to when you lay back. And with the term "lasting" you don't get the luggage that comes with "tradition", "heritage" or "retro", which seemed hard to define. And "lasting" is nothing in the past per se, but also applies to things in the future, something new ("maker culture", "family and kids") or a new experience ("adventure"). It has something romantic and idealising to it as well, which how hamilton talked about his brewery. I had this image of a cartoon Jessica in my mind, who would ask her big, strong, bearded, teddy bear-like husband to bring her a beer. She takes a sip of the craft beer and a tattoo containing the brand logo would appear on her forearm like a lasting memory of the taste. She winks, breaking the forth wall. It is reminiscent of Red bull and its wings on the one hand and the relationship comics of Yehuda Devir or Catana on the other. IMO the comparison with Red Bull is definitely at hand (against big competition, cans only). It is humorous and charming. The family remind of the Hamiltons themself ("heritage" and "family"). The tattoo has a "signature" character ("maker culture"). It turns stereotypes on its head, but in a healty modern liberal family way. It works with man too. Guy's touching glasses, sip, bam, hamilton tattoo. It works with upper class business man, beer enthusiasts, beer gourmets, nerdy natural scientists, sports fans and hipster ("uniting people"). The art changes with the type of beer, the mark stays the same.
I completely understand why it would not be shown in the episodes, but I would like to know how the money talk went down, like when it was: before or after the discovery; if there were any objections how do you guys handle them. I don't care about the numbers but seeing how the value pricing conversation actually goes would be great. Anyway , great series guys, can't wait for the next episode.
Fidy Randria Thanks so much for the feedback - in the meantime, we do cover this extensively in our business bootcamp. It’s worth taking a peek, even if you just scope out the webinars
Your use of RUclips is remarkable and laudable. This is a RUclips show I'm literally looking forward to watching the next episode of for learning, entertainment and professional growth.
You guys! This is SO good! It's been extremely helpful to compare the process I use with my clients and see areas where I can grow. Thanks (again) for letting us into the process with you...
Brain storming 😍 3 graphic designer for one project, with creative team and big agency as the futur, thats my dream job, thanks all for every thing, as graphic designer, i think you are the biggest sources of inspiration in all the world for all the designers ❤
Absolute gem of a series! There should be more of this kind of content here on the internet. Well, maybe there is and I just didn't find it yet. I appreciate you guys so much for showing the creative process behind brand making, definetely eye-opening and insight-provoking.
I think the last designer had the best approach with the strong simple fonts and more contemporary take on minimal design. I also liked that she grabbed those color references. I didn't like the colors but I liked the thinking behind it
This is so great. To get to know the pricing of this process would be the cherry on top! Since Chris is educating people about pricing creativity and outcome not hours, translated to the work you did for a customer in the range of Hamilton Brewery would hit the spot for so many designers out there!
Great videos, I love this stuff. The biggest thing I got from the couple was the Welcoming atmosphere they were trying to build. Almost like they want their customers to feel at home when they're at their brewery and when drinking their beer elsewhere. Instead of it being a bar or brewery, its a home that all sorts of people walk in and out of at their leisure. I gravitated towards the Welcoming aspect a lot. I started thinking about the first thing I saw when I hear the word Welcoming. Its a door or a door mat. Whats needed to open a door and whats under a door mat, a key. A set of old style keys Historic/Rustic keys. That plays along with the heritage they're looking for and the welcoming atmosphere. Not too much color but you can tell the set of keys is dated. Not too dated because they've been taken care of for generations and generations. Maybe I'm crazy!
I'm a Marketer in New Zealand that came across this little series by mistake. I don't usually comment on RUclips videos but felt the need to tell you that I'm really enjoying it! Would love to see more content like this. Very good production too.
@@mrbenburns Really enjoyed it! What stuck out the most was the challenge you guys had with particular language/vocabulary/words to describe particular designs you were striving for - ie. "retro" vs "heritage" and how each person will interpret those words differently in terms of design. Also feel like it would be challenging to keep the user profiles' best interests in mind instead of allowing your own preferences/tastes to cloud your judgement of what the client needs. You may gravitate towards a particular design, but that may not be the best for the client/user profile/etc.
Just started, and I love it! All I want is to binge watch now! Really like how you chose your team of designers... even when they hadn’t worked on any beer products/packaging before, you still gave them a chance... KUDOS to you for that!
Another excellent episode! Love seeing how you go about building a brand and I, for one, find it oddly satisfying watching other designers do the work and not having to worry about their deadline and what the client is going to think haha
Loved seeing this. Something that used to bug me working with design teams in the Age of the Internet - most research and ref images are happening exclusively online! Being older, i.e., memories before the Internet, there's something to be said about going out and seeing / touching / smelling / immersing yourself in physical places and physical things. Pasadena Flea Market is up the street; Antique shops are all over; walk into some old-time bars, visit some breweries to see the what the Jessicas and (damn forgot his name!) are drinking. What I saw happening was designers were pulling references from the same places online, thus everything was starting to look the same! Get out and explore the world. There's some cool stuff to see out there!
My favorite series! So practical and relatable. Love love love seeing the process others go through to find inspiration and hit the nail on the head for the client. Keep them coming!
It's so interesting to see how much of this we covered on my Interior Design degree. Things like getting right down to the client journey and imagining their experience. Lots of other points we covered too. There seems to be a lot of cross over.
I can't thank you enough for this video guys, I felt like I was part of the team joining you in this meeting, it was awesome to see how do you embrace or discard some of the references based on the direction you wanted the project to develop. I never had this experience since I've always worked by myself, thank you so much for letting me join.
I love that. I remember feeling that same way - I always wanted a look inside a larger/more established organization when I was running solo. Part of the motivation for the series.
It's nice to see a mix of presentation skills with designers, presenting is and will always be a learning process we can continue to improve upon. As always, keep up the great work homies!
This is amazing! I love it! I teach Graphic Design to high school students and am planning on using this series to teach my kids about the true creative process!
20:20 Love this part, this insight to how your process naturally sorts out the challenges of translating words into visuals. Also love the laugh right after. Pulled my attention back in when I didn't realize my focus was slipping.
Just took on the in house graphic design role after a coworker left. These are very helpful videos for the process of developing brands. Wish we had more people on staff but the concepts will help!
I have been working with consultants, clients, stakeholders or even local authority. Trust me, none of the meetings we had as interesting to watch as this!
This series is incredible. I'm trying to bridge the gap from engineer to designer and this series is doing a fantastic job of showcasing quality brand awareness content in a succint manner. I appreciate you guys and am looking forward to buying your merch as well 😎
Wow! so much thought and detiails that go into their work, sometimes I feel they are overthinking it so much, not sure is really necessary when you could take more action and get the work done, and on to the next one. But I understand how important is the CRAFT. LOVE THE SHOW !!! hope they do another season.
It's interesting to see how they researched the design from different decades to find elements to match the target market. It is important to note the key phrases that the designers where trying to find design element for and how their own interpretation of the words impacted what they were looking for.
I love this series, one of the things I’m noticing though is I think a lot of the junior designers are finding assets that “look” period but aren’t. There’s some old reference photos and whatnot but they don’t align with something that was clearly made within the past few years. I think if you can’t get out to do some research on an old product in the field somewhere like an antique shop, eBay might be a good place to look as well because those things actually are of a certain period and vintage. Overall really enjoying this though
Cant wait to see what you come up with. I'm a pretty new designer and seeing this in process work is more valuable than damn near anything else. I want to compare what you guys come up with against what I come up with as far as logo and packaging so I can see how to improve. You guys rock!
This is a great series for sure. I think what I hate is it seemed they skipped over just the conversation of the budget and pricing of the project. That would have been a great section to see. I don't know if this is normally how they work doing a lot of work and bringing in a team before the talk of what this would be in type of price range. Love to know what others think on this.
Loving this guys, thank you for this series. It's a brilliant insight to the journey of branding. Us designers nowadays are incredibly fortunate to have series' like this to learn from, many before us didn't have the same luxury.
If you haven’t watched the other episodes yet, catch up on the series here: ruclips.net/p/PLzKJi2GjpkEFsV13D3WPm5s6tZVkvKJ1-
Really nice series 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Futur how do you foster a work environment where designers aren’t afraid to get things wrong so they don’t immediately discount their ideas?
How much time is spent by the designers during this research/ideas stage?
when will the next episode drop?
This should be a Netflix series!
Agree!

Brain storming 😍 3 graphic designer for one project, with creative team and big agency as the futur, thats my dream job, thanks all for every thing, as graphic designer, i think you are the biggest sources of inspiration in all the world for all the designers ❤
yeah, on other budget company's 1 designer 3 project 7 days lmao
@@redapple360 belive me, my situation is much worse, from 30 to 40 projects a month 😭
Thank you. Welcome to the Futur
Can’t wait! Loving this series so much.
What'd you think, Justin?
KUDOS to you for that!
freaking love this series. I would honestly watch this on the regular.
This video series has honesty hepled me add to what I know about branding and strategy, as always VALUE VALUE VALUE by theFutur 🌌
Another excellent episode! Love seeing how you go about building a brand and I, for one, find it oddly satisfying watching other designers do the work and not having to worry about their deadline and what the client is going to think haha
What an interesting series! Love it so far!!
Thanks Daniel, can't wait to get the rest out
Everyone needs to share this. The amount of value these videos have are unreal ! Great work once again.
THanks Jon!
It's so interesting to see how much of this we covered on my Interior Design degree. Things like getting right down to the client journey and imagining their experience. Lots of other points we covered too. There seems to be a lot of cross over.
So excited to see the stylescapes!!!
I typically prefer shorter videos, but this one hooked me until then end. Excellent.
Love this. It's so cool seeing the raw, behind the scenes footage of each step.
It's nice to see a mix of presentation skills with designers, presenting is and will always be a learning process we can continue to improve upon.
As always, keep up the great work homies!
Working on re-branding and designing a brewery brand and found this gem. Cheers to The Futur!
Great idea for a series 👏
It's as if it's Saturday and I'm a kid again-- rushing to turn on the TV to see the next episode of my favorite show.
Same, lol
This series has been so exciting to watch while I design and build my brand! Thank you!
This series is exactly what I have been looking for. You guys are amazing and explain everything out so that we can understand! Thank you guys! ♥️
What a great brief. Matthew and Ben are straight PROS!!!
This series is the most valuable, yet amazing, I've watched in a while!!
OMG. This Show is alot of Value, more than a year i learn by myself. Thank You very The Futur. You are the best.
I just finished watching the two previous episodes. I am absolutely loving it. Can't wait for EP3.
What did you think?
This series is incredible. I'm trying to bridge the gap from engineer to designer and this series is doing a fantastic job of showcasing quality brand awareness content in a succint manner. I appreciate you guys and am looking forward to buying your merch as well 😎
When I see a new video I just hit LIKE and start watching the video. Thanks guys!
Yes!
Wow! so much thought and detiails that go into their work, sometimes I feel they are overthinking it so much, not sure is really necessary when you could take more action and get the work done, and on to the next one. But I understand how important is the CRAFT.
LOVE THE SHOW !!! hope they do another season.
Watching for pleasure now and am gonna watch it for learning later
It's interesting to see how they researched the design from different decades to find elements to match the target market. It is important to note the key phrases that the designers where trying to find design element for and how their own interpretation of the words impacted what they were looking for.
I love how you guys work together. Learning a ton! Thanks for putting this series together for us!
This show is SO FREAKING AWESOME. Thanks a lot for this content
This series is my favorite thing on the internet
Absolutely loving this series. Thank you guys
Awesome. THanks for that.
This series is precious.
Oh my god, so cool! Can't wait to see the stylescapes !!!
Cant wait to see what you come up with. I'm a pretty new designer and seeing this in process work is more valuable than damn near anything else. I want to compare what you guys come up with against what I come up with as far as logo and packaging so I can see how to improve. You guys rock!
Late Night Canvas wow that is huge thank you
@@mrbenburns you and Matt deserve it. Cant wait to be on your level. If you're ever in Colorado I'll buy you lunch as a thank you
This is a great series for sure. I think what I hate is it seemed they skipped over just the conversation of the budget and pricing of the project. That would have been a great section to see. I don't know if this is normally how they work doing a lot of work and bringing in a team before the talk of what this would be in type of price range. Love to know what others think on this.
Mr.Ben Burns describing himself while meaning to describe the client at the beginning hahahahaha too awesome
This series is gold!
best series on youtube!
Best comment on RUclips
this series is so insightful, always coming back to learn again. hope you guys create another series on this
Loving this guys, thank you for this series. It's a brilliant insight to the journey of branding. Us designers nowadays are incredibly fortunate to have series' like this to learn from, many before us didn't have the same luxury.
Most educational reality show EVA!!!
