it worked! i made a very thick mango mead with all kinds of herbs, left it for 4 months and it didnt clear at all. where i live Bentonite is absurdly expensive so i add egg shells. after 2 weeks or so it was as clear as water.
Have been hesitant to use chemicals and glad I was. This is perfect for me to avoid them. Can't beat the good old tried and true methods of our ancestors, cheers!
Now that was an eye opener, we dry then crush our egg shells before adding them to our chicken feed or using around the garden but I have a batch of white grape wine here that is just not clearing so you can guess what I will be trying tomorrow, thanks for the tip. Take care and all the best.
Thank you for uploading this, I've just done this today with a stubborn potato and ginger wine and wanted to know the science behind it! Brilliant video!
Heat the cleaned eggshells in the oven for 3 minutes. Make the eggshell powder. Now You invented organic bentonite. Eggshell powder is a kind of primitive bentonite derive. Use 2 tsp for 5 liter mead. You can also use it for treating oily skin ,acnes and detoxifying the skin in your body
I will definitely try that! I've had trouble clearing ginger ale (on its own or with gelatin) and I'm hesitant to use egg white. I've also bought pectic enzyme to clear fruit wine but I'm not sure about its effect yet. I'll try this next.
Good video and so nice of you that you showed us this tricky thing to clearing wine but friend will it work on any wine and mead please clarify how should we do?
hi thanks for your interesting video . i have question .i added gelatine in my wine 4 days ago and left only further hazy situaction and seems it doesn't work i was wondering if i add egg shell at this point would be effective? or not
Hello sir , Thanks For the video, I had used hand crushed egg shells in my Beet root wine and woh it's Crystal clear . But this time I make a fine powder of Shells and use them in my Mint wine but on a second day the CO2 bubbling started again vigorously and after 2 Weeks its still bubbling ( After one racking too ) and from past 3 days ( 10 days after adding shell power) I can see lots of precipitation in my wine is this normal ? can I hope the precipitation will settle down at the bottom . Please need your help .
Great idea. It has intrigued my inner chemist. Would it work better with a finer powder? Given that eggshells are calcium carbonate, surely chalk would also work? Hmm.... Cracking tip there!
It might well work well having been subjected to a pestle and mortar - but hand crunched seems the most satisfying way for me :) Chitin is another calcium based finings, and made from crustacean shells which is heavy in calcium carbonate. . . so maybe chalk may well work. Although would the chalk primarily reduce the acidity of the wine? If my peppermint wine does not clear soon, I might end up adding some gaviscon!
Hello :) Thank you, yes, all is good up here, all is good. Hope so down your end too! Took a quick pause from brewing as the temp was a bit too chilly to ferment much, and had to tuck demijohns away from the toddler! Just sorting out a shipping container as we speak to make a brew room! More brew videos will be on their way very soon!
Lovely stuff! Wish I saw this before I bottled my banana wine. But I'm going to try this today with my mango wine. Haze doesn't bother me, but might be unappealing to those who are used to store bought wines. Could you use egg shells and white at the same time?

I forgot I had RUclips on .75 speed. And it opened with such a lovely lute sound and a hello..
I choked because it was so beautiful!

Fantastic thanks, but I have to say, your son is the star of this video. Gosh he kept you busy bless him hehehehe.

hi, did you try this and how did it go? Also did you hand crush or grind to a powder?
What we're missing here is a video of the eggshells, the eggshells in the wine, the eggshells bobbing up and down, etc.
You’re supposed to cook and powderize them
That's an Eggcellent idea.
Loving all your videos, Wine, Homestead and baby, going through them one by one
Thanks & good health
Brilliant! I’ll be using this tip
Awesome stuff! One to remember for sure, impressive chemical free solution. Thanks for sharing. 👍
That’s another recycling of egg shells to my list, thank you. Young wippersnapper is on hand to help...bless.
Greatly enjoy your videos, and thank you for sharing your family with the world. Thanks so much for leading the way to a better life.
Thanks for the tip! Like you I'm determined to keep chemicals to a minimum 👍🌻
I’d heard of egg white but I had no idea about the egg shells. Thank you!
I'd rather use shells than make some terrifying version of eggnog.
Thank you for uploading this, I've just done this today with a stubborn potato and ginger wine and wanted to know the science behind it! Brilliant video!
That baby is adorable! I’m trying the egg shell clearing this week.
Excellent and thank you to you both.
Thanks for the tip. I think its better to place it in the wine the way you did in big pieces instead of grind into powdered form.
Thanks 🙏🏻 for your advice take care all the best 🥂
Wow. Thanks for sharing! Will try this. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
The rate I'm usually spending up my batch this trick def is gonna be helpful. I still value quality over quantity.
It definitely was one of yours haha. Great video!
Wow..That is a Great Tip...Thanks again.
Loved the video, really educating, Thanks for sharing, much love to the lovely baby ☺️☺️
Just tripped over your channel . Will be subscribing soon .
Bentonite does wonders

Nice video Sir.
this has to be done after the primary fermentation ends or after the secondary fermentation before bottling
I will do this on my beer
I will use it right away!!
Wow, great job, great tip!🎅🥃🥂🍷🍯
Ok I will try it...
I put egg shells in my wine and it went mental and fizzed out the air lock. Its speed up fermentation. Hopefully the wine will still be ok
It’s just haze! Sometimes it adds to the experience!:)
Do you put the shells in in the beginning or it doesn't really matter

how do you get the eggshell out at the end .. do they go to the bottom or strain them out or what ?
Oh
Naughty mead

Would this work in orange wine?
Did you ever make a video on how to use an egg as a hydrometer? I've looked but can't find anything? 😁
You look twenty years younger without el beardo.

Do you have any tips for a vegan version to help clear wine as well?
The way I wanted to means not quickly so I can drink it.
Edit: I too dislike chemicals on stuff I'm intent to drink.
With this egg shell, the wine taste not become bitter?
that toddler needs a restraining jacket. Or a few cups of whiskey.
Sir can I apply this method to cleaning apple cider vinegar?thanks
Doesnt work for me .....i made banana wine used 1 shell for 5 liters anf its still cloudy .....i think it only works for certain wines
you should have some much clear instructions on time how long ?and heat temperature !people may get salmonella or bacteria in their wine!
How long? Until they have dried. Temp - Hot enough to dry them!
