- CSX Locomotives Roaring Loudly With Over Loaded Rock & Scrap Metal Cars! Brand New Amtrak Charger Locomotives Double Head Passenger Train On One Of Their First Runs, Locomotive Power Move Seen From My Motel Window & Fast Intermodal Train. These trains are in Lakeland, Florida and Mulberry, Florida on CSX Tampa, Florida area routes.
The first train is the best train that I have seen in Lakeland, Florida. This is train M452 and it had a mid train DPU locomotive working hard and I got it going up the long grade in Lakeland. It is a daily freight train that runs from Miami to Waycross, Georgia. It had loaded rock cars up front and a lot of over loaded scrap metal cars in the middle. It had just passed the Amtrak station when I filmed it crossing Kentucky Ave. I wish the camera could show what it's like standing next to a huge train like this. You really feel the power and the size when you are standing next to it.
Next we see both sides of an Amtrak train in Lakeland on its way to Tampa. Amtrak uses this route to run between New York and Miami. This train has 2 of the 75 new ALC-42 locomotives that are being delivered to Amtrak throughout 2024. They are primarily replacing the P40 and P42 locomotives. They will reach 125mph, they use less fuel and are more environmentally friendly. About 850 million dollars was set aside in 2019 to purchase the new locomotives and pay for their maintenance contracts. I will also be posting a video of 3 of them on a passenger train in Florida. They are being built by Siemens in Sacramento, California.
This video shows the Tropicana/intermodal train passing through Lakeland at another quad gate railroad crossing with Amtrak following them on their return from Tampa. We also see a locomotive power move from my window at the motel in Mulberry, Florida. I had a great view of the railroad. I watched phosphate trains pass by and I saw trains with tank cars pass by. The outro shows part of a train at a railroad diamond in the middle of a 4 lane highway in Mulberry. I will put that full video together soon. Don't miss the slide show at the end and some of the wild animals that we saw.
Filmed Friday, February 9, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

you should say Hi to our distant signal friend Danny Harmon. you're in his neck of the woods
Tim in Toronto
Distant Signal and RAILROL82 are my two favorite Florida based railfans! 😉
That first train was quite impressive. I liked the "wake the dead" text.
Have a bit of savoir faire ppl. The bunny is trying to eat his lunch over here. 😂
That was at the Circle B Bar Reserve ranch in central Florida. That place is really awesome. It is a huge park with all kinds of wildlife. The gigantic lake there never has a boat on it and alligators are everywhere. Last year Jackie counted 21 of them floating around while we were on a long wooden platform that goes out into the lake.
Good morning JT from Scotland 😊
Good Morning JT & fans from England ❤❤❤🏴
Thanks for watching from England!
Pip pip, @Carolb66
Good morning from Lewisham London
Good morning! @@VICTOR-pf9eg
Love those Florida trains 🚂 especially Amtrak !!!
Me too!
hey JT , all that scrap that was piled high and overflowing is destined for a Nuccor Steel mill, they own David Joseph scrap Co. and their 3 rail car reporting marks are shown below:
DJPX JOSEPH TRANSPORTATION, INC. (DAVID J. JOSEPH CO.) -
DJRX DAVID J. JOSEPH CO. (JOSEPH TRANSPORTATION, INC.)
DJTX DAVID J. JOSEPH CO. (JOSEPH TRANSPORTATION, INC.)
They also have DJJX and DJNX -- several of these are in the video.
Love those 2 new Amtrak Locomotives JT!!!
Good afternoon from Spring Hill Florida
Hello there!
Typical non washed train .Engine’s look great . They were cleaned. Great video
Thank you very much!
Good morning from Central Alabama. You picked a nice warm place to made train videos! I'm jealous it's only 29° here. Have a good day 😊
Good morning 🌅🌄
This is my home town where I was born and raised. I left for college and never moved back. It'll always hold a place in my heart. I also spent tons in time in Mulberry aka bone valley. Tons of great rail action there.
That's awesome! I spent a whole week in Mulberry. I stayed at the Best Western where I could see the trains. I will have videos from Mulberry soon
Welcome to Lakeland. My hometown for almost 50 years. Thanks for posting us. I record the trains through here all the time. I'll also go up to Dade City and catch them. Once again, thanks for putting our city on your radar.
My home town as well. We also have the same name. How neat.
Im from Sarasota...love sheriff Grady!
Another awesome video JT and we also have one of those new Amtrak engines on the crescent that runs from New Orleans Louisiana to New York City New York and they run it to Atlanta Georgia every day and turn it around on a Y and head back to New Orleans that evening I know two of the engineers that run it and they said it will do every bit of 125 miles an hour and I ask one of them has he had it up to 125 and he said oh yeah especially when they’re making up time. Lol
Good Morning JT & fans from England The Amtrak locos were beautiful can tell they are new. Some warm Florida sunshine will do you good JT. Fab video loving Amtrak! ❤🌞🏴
Morning!
Without really knowing whether or not the boxcars and the tanker cars on that first train were loaded or not, just seeing how many cars were full of rock and scrap metal made me appreciate how much POWER those locomotive engines have !! Wow!
Thanks for watching!
It's possible to tell by looking at the truck springs. A loaded car will have them squashed to the point that there's almost no space between the individual coils. JT sometimes points this out. A fully loaded car can be between 263,000 and 286,000 pounds. If you add up the figures on the "LT WT" and "LD LMT" markings on the car, you'll come up with one of the two weights listed above.
That DPU was workin!
Nice lived in Tampa, never had trains. Nice one J.T.!😊
Great to see the train in Lakeland Florida, the new Amtrak trains,
Norfie and the Train Dogs along with the rabbit and the gator
Thanks Jaw Tooth.🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨🤎🤠👋🐶😺🤎
Jaw Tooth, Norfi is a funny cat. She knows a lot of good places to sleep. Probably the most comfortable spot is on you plollows....lol. Robert
Excellent Presentation. Hearty Greetings from Hyderabad, India 🇮🇳 💐
Thanks for watching!
The first train was a beast! The "no train horn" was a Karen idea.
Yup lol
nice new engines for amtrak.
Indeed!
howdy Jaw Tooth and Mrs Tooth well done nice to see both sides of the amtrak engines look awesome and the first one csx long one lots of weight there looks like really nice weather a bit overcast but nice take care my friend and Mrs Tooth
well guess what i looked on FB for you and lo and behold i found you so i have messaged you on messenger not sure if you use it but i tried will catch you again soon great video's thank you
I love how the crossing bell stops and then the bell starts ringing again I think CSX changed the bells setting I hope they start doing this to all there crossings
That was pretty cool. The gates on the crossing in the distance just barely got down when the train hit the crossing
Welcome back to Central Florida!🚂🚂
Thank you Mrs Tooth. Great catch 👏. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
🤗
Thank Jaw Tooth for a great Florida Train video.
Glad you enjoyed it and there will be more tomorrow
Enjoy the weather, it's a lot better than Ohio. 😊😎👌👍!
You got that right!
Glad you got away from the cold weather up North.
Tell me about it lol
Good morning 🌄 ❤❤
I have watched your videos for two years now in Eastern North Carolina . I like your introduction the best Roaster.. I really miss shoestring as we all do
That rooster was a good one. I hatched him. My daughter has chickens. I have one hen that lays about 5 eggs a week. Shoestring was a great person and I really miss him also. We were going to make a bunch of videos this year
I just remembered that you used to have a friend that was with you on many of your adventures. I haven't seen him in a long time. He used to be with you when you went to FL,
I love the wildlife shots! Alligators are cool, but so scary at the same time. It looked like Norfi was chilling and enjoying her vacation. 😊 Great video JT. I enjoyed the trains and the new scenery! Thanks 👍. 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Your Lakeland video was filmed on my birthday February 9, I turned 83!
Judging by how hard those locomotives where working on the first train and how much scrap was in those gondolas were carrying, that train was way heavy.
Impressive set of new Amtrak locos as well. i 'd guess a large amount of railfans stay at that hotel because of the great view. Great video
JT,
Boy, that's a brand new look for Amtrak, isn't it? I love it ❤. So much better than plain silver! 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
I think so too!
Good morning from Down East Canada, aka, New Brunswick, JT.
That 1st train was billed as the heaviest train to hit the grade... and as politicians like to say, it brought receipts.
Amtrak locos looked pretty nice. Thank you JT.
Thanks for watching all the way up there in New Brunswick!
Wow! That was an excellent NS mixed freight JT! It had lots of stone and lots of scrap metal that could have come from a machining operation. Or it could possibly have been imported for steel making. I loved the stainless hoppers with the blue ends! I've never seen those before. Very long also, which is awesome. Great catch! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
@@JawTooth You're welcome.
No machine shop would generate that much scrap! Those cars are loaded with ground scrap -- basically, they put it through a big machine that grinds it into baseball-sized chunks. As you say, it could be imported, or it could be that there's a steel mill nearby, or that all the regional scrap yards are feeding their scrap to the same area, so it all gets concentrated on the one train. Given the number of DJsomethingX cars on the train, the scrap's destined for a Nucor mill somewhere, but they're the biggest steelmaker in the USA, so that doesn't narrow it down much.
OMG! 712 axles including the two units. That is a massive amount of freight for two 710 series locomotives to haul.
Thats what I'm talking about lol! That was two miles of freight. Pretty amazing they could pull all of that
Very nice video Jaw.
Very cool. You see a lot of the Siemens Charger locomotives in Chicago, where they power the trains going up the Amtrak Michigan Line at Porter, Indiana, which is their high-speed line. I've never run, or been in one, but I saw them all of the time during my railroad career. Pretty neat and always lit-up very brightly. Lots of teething problems, which hurt their reliability, but they have mostly ironed them out. Excellent video.
Thank you for the birthday shoutout, Jaw Tooth. Also, when I was driving to see my friend in Napoleon Ohio yesterday, I seen a train in the distance and the locomotives were BNSF. I hope you and Mrs Tooth are having a wonderful vacation ❤
That is awesome! BNSF is Mrs Tooth's favorite paint scheme.
7:04 channeling your inner jerry seinfeld with that "what's the deal with all this scrap metal" question? Haha
Yup, lol
Those Amtrak locomotives are probably the new Siemens Chargers.
Yes, they are. Thanks for watching!
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in Florida, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much.
Glad you like them! I will have more
For all we know, all those metal shavings might have been a locomotive at one time. On their way to a store near you as brand new Gillette razors! And you're right, I think those shavings were definitely piled much too high in those gondolas.
Great video as always , and yours is one of my absolute favorite railfan channels.
You are pretty close to my home now. Welcome to sunny Florida JT. Super trains! ❤
welcome to Florida jt I used to watch the Tropicana trains run thru Brooksville enjoy you visit and thanks again for all your great videos
Good morning all from🇨🇦 ! Great video JT! Love the new Amtrak's and great view from your room. Watch those gators! Stay safe Mr. And Mrs. jT😊
Good morning!
Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Thanks so much for the very interesting films. Take care my friend from Southampton UK.
Thanks, you too!
That CSX train had that DPU howling along the tracks - a very nice sound of power! Amtrak gets some cool technology. I saw a pair of these that were configured for overhead power the other day. Probably expensive, but darn good looking :) And - that quad gate looks intimidating - LOL! I would be worried whether I was in the right place :)
Big manifest with the rock hoppers, nice night shot of Amtrak!🛤🚂
DPU-ICU - license plate for JT. Man, that train was long enough to cross timezones! New amtrak locos look good with Amfleets! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the info! I never thought of that. I need those special tags
THAT'S ONE HARD WORKING D.P.U. THE TRAIN'S PROFILE,, VERY CLOSE TO MAXIMUM. REGARDS TO MRS. JAWTOOTH. DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN. 💯👍😌😁
Will do! I also bought a hat with a wide brim
Morning JT
Seeing Norfie, the kitty is always a favorite with me! Love her!
Good Morning Jaw Tooth
Cool looking Amtrak engines

Hey jaw tooth i watch your videos from all the way from seattle!! It looks nice over there!! Well happy sunday or what ever day it is haha
I watch them all the time in Auburndale, just east of Lakeland. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for watching! Last year I was in Auburndale. That is a great place to see the trains
Hi Jawtooth from 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧. Love the videos your trains put ours to shame. Love the new Amtrak locos. Keep em coming. Has Norfie come along too??? Bet chessie and Locki wanted to come as well!!

hello Jaw & Mrs.Tooth & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Jaw & Mrs. Tooth Friends Randy
Thanks so much Randy!
Great first day JT. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
@@JawToothgreat video
Well done, catching those trains in Florida jaw tooth
Thanks!
Gators and turtles and rabbits oh my.
Just like some of the mega trains up in Kentucky or coming into Cincinnati. Since we can't ship anything to Cuba all of the broken awnings golf carts corroded sprinkler systems plus autos and appliances have to leave Florida Northbound and it's headed for electric Arc furnaces in Alabama and South Carolina. Sad to say with all the Hurricanes that in itself generates a lot of scrap every time. Just like Florida the average age of the passenger cars and Freight cars was up there. Also aggregate is also one of the biggest tonnages shipped in the state and some of those cars were filled to the brim and then some. Time to enjoy a little warmth and a change of scenery.
Great video, the new Amtrak locomotives are great to see! Greetings from the Netherlands!👍
Glad you like them!
Hope you had a great trip. That first rock / manifest train was a beauty! Great stufr.
Thank you very much!
Hey JT! Have a great Sunday.
Awesome train 🚆 video from Brian. I hope that you are having a great vacation in Florida. I loved the new look of Amtrak engines. Many thanks for sharing your videos. Greetings from Virginia. 😊
Thank you very much!
Awesome video with a dpu working hard but wait there’s more 👍🚂🇺🇸😎👍
You got that right!
Thank you for this first railfanning video from your recent vacation to Florida, Jaw Tooth! The CSX train at the beginning of this video was a long and heavy train. I am surprised that there was only one DPU on this train. I have seen the Siemens engines on Amtrak trains on videos that I have seen on other RUclips channels. The night trains were nice catches.
Cool, thanks! I had one train with 3 of those new locomotives
I would love to come and see you to watch Trains go by
Great vacation trains and action. Enjoyed this immensely, (especially the night shot) thanks JT!
They don't seem to worry too much about fencing off the railway on your side of the pond! Great videos btw
Not at all
Welcome to Florida tooth! Lakeland is The spring training home of the Detroit Tigers,a team I have followed from my youth! Seen some Tropicana box cars!,from my side of the state!
Thanks for watching!
Good morning from NE Alabama!!
Enjoying the video... thank you. 👍🏼
Good Sunday morning Brian, another fine video. Have a safe trip home.
Thanks 👍
In my backyard.. Live the spot your at
Great video. I hate to think how much power would be needed to take this train up Horseshoe Curve!
That would be cool to see!
Hey, JT - looks like very pleasant weather in Lakeland. That first train has to be one of the longest you've ever filmed. Right, those gondolas were dangerously over-topped. Great to see those new Amtrak loco's and see some of Mrs. Tooth's work. Thanks for all the details about these trains in your write-up. Stay well.
Many thanks! I am just now finishing up another Florida video. I will have a few more good ones from Florida
Great episode!
I love the night videos. Wish you could do a few more! They're great. Hope you are doing well, Brian!
I will have a couple more night videos from Florida. The railroad that has a diamond in the middle of a four lane highway has most of its trains pass in the dark and I got two of them. Thanks for watching my videos Michael!
D-P-U-I-C-U, another from central Alabama longing for warm Florida in the winter time. Lucky you Jaw Tooth. what a long and heavy train, nice video!
thanks for watching in Alabama!
I like the double gates they have
Me too. I noticed the next crossing down just barely got the gates down before Amtrak got to it
I just love the new Amtrak locomotives. They look so good. Looking forward to more Florida videos. Always something going on in Florida. Great video. Have a nice day 😊🌈💞💞
Hey georgette! Remember me from the Bangor cam?
Welcome to the great state of Florida!
Thank you!!
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Thanks a ton!
Hey jaw tooth cool trains. Glad you guys had a great time in Florida. . Happy presidents day. Have a great railroad day.🚂🙋♀️
Thanks! You too!
Great video Brian and Mrs.Tooth. Well done
Thanks 👍
Great catch looks like they cleaned all the scrap metal out of Florida on that one great way to spend a vacation great video thanks Brian
thanks for watching!
Awww! Such a Cute bunny 😍🐰
My second time to that park and the first time to see a bunny there
@@JawTooth 🙂
A bus terminal can be found a couple of blocks west of that crossing on the north side of the tracks. There are people currently trying to get SunRail to expand service south and west along the Carters, Lakeland, and Tampa Terminal Subdivisions through Lakeland. If they did, they'd have to move those signal boxes and close that walkway between the train station and bus terminal, which would suck.
In my area of Oregon ,trainloads of scrap metal are hauled to our local mill to make rebar with their all electric furnaces in McMinnville.
The only reason that scrap metal is on the rails is to take it to some kind of steel mill. There'd be no reason to move it, otherwise.
Welcome back yo Florida.
Thank you!
