I am struggling to find words to tell you how much I am enjoying your videos. They just brim over with absolute joy with life. Your competence and enthusiasm is just awe inspiring. The presentation of the flights in the videos is quite professional, and entertaining, visually, and your narrative. I am in my mid seventies, and your enthusiasm reminds me of how much fun being a young adult and discovering the world was.
Thank you so much for your kind words! This is the reason why I find so much joy in sharing my experiences. I am so happy to hear that you like my videos, and that I can, in a way, take you along on these adventures!
I have owned a Grumman Tiger for more than a decade. I have flown it all over the US and Bahamas... Tahoe, Grand Canyon, Rockies, Death Valley, Texas, New Orleans, Big Sir, San Diego, Moab, SF... welcome to the best-kept secret in General Aviation. Two small recommendations for next time... take note of the speed restriction in the POH for canopy open ops and note that the canopy is placarded with a mark (near your elbow) for how far you can push it back in flight. It's easy to bend those rules. Lastly thanks for not editing the go-around- this bird likes to be flown at very specific speeds on approach. We all made that mistake when we transitioned from other bulky spam cans.
Thank you so much for pointing this out Steve! I really enjoyed flying the Tiger too, and in hindsight I wish I was more vigilant on the max opening placard. I must say, when I read the POH I was aware of the max operating speed with canopy open, and decided not to fly over 95 kts in that situation (for safety precautions). Since the POH that I read didn't have a specific textual reference to the max opening distance, I unfortunately overlooked the placard diagram. This was my honest mistake, and when I read that I could fly open canopy, I was beyond excited! Fellow pilots recommended me to fly open canopy for the "real" Grumman experience, but I didn't think to ask them if there was a max. opening distance. I'm truly thankful that everything went okay, and that no damage was incurred. I've learnt from this mistake, and hope I can pass on this information to future pilots on the Tiger. Thanks again for your kind words!
I was thinking the same thing about the canopy restrictions. Used to fly Berl Brechner's Grumman Cheetah all over the eastern US when was a staff editor at Flying Magazine, 150 hp version of same airplane. Agree with all previous similar comments esp the one by guy in his mid 70s how much I enjoy these videos and pilot Bambi's competence and joie de vivre et de l'air et de vol. Enchanting!
Wow... this almost-PPL pilot stuck at home during Covid lockdown in gloomy, cold London is smiling from ear to ear and all fuzzy inside after watching this video. What a beautiful day of flying. Thank you so much for sharing!
US Tiger owner here. Great to watch you making this trip. Tigers are a lot of fun to fly and not your average fixed gear single. You did great for never having flown one before. Over here you can't get insurance until you have 10 to 20 hours flying one with a cfi with Grumman time. Your first landing immediately got my attention, glad you didn't hesitate making the go around. You learned the airplane quick! Sometime try a no flap landing, then speed control is even more critical, and fun!
I lived right outside of Trier, Germany for over 31 years. Got my EASA FCL in Luxembourg. Now I’m back in my motherland, USA. I’m in the process of converting my License to FAA PPL. Love your videos. Those Grumman’s are tricky sometimes landing. My first Logbook entry was down in Guadeloupe. I was there for work. I’m also an A&P/IA. If you saw the yellow Piper Apache, F-BTEY, at Guadeloupe, I assembled it there after shipping it from Luxembourg. Small world!
Your videos make me so happy, literally brings tears to my eyes. You just remind me that life is beautiful and worth living. It's easy to forget that sometimes!
I had the same airplane in the past and has to stop flying because of illness, such a beautiful airplane, I still love this aircraft, many greetings from Remi from Belgium
Hi Bambi... Just watched this video of your ferry trip from Germany to Norway in a Grumman AA5B Tiger! Im am 67 but in the late 1970's I first co-owned 1 used, 1 new Grumman with my older brother. First a Cheetah for 1yr. N9677U Then in April 1978 we bought a brand new Tiger from the factory in Savanah Georgia N28712 to which both still fly today in 2022 with other owners.. I flew the Cheetah for about 150hrs and the Tiger 430hrs over a 10yr period. They were both such great planes to fly with alot of fun. I was not instrument rated, but my brother was and we were fully IFR equiped with the very first King KNS80 RNAV sold in the pacific northwest in Eugene, Oregon . I did though have to make an emergency landing in 1983 when the weather changed quickly in the Willamette Valley coming back from Boise, Idaho and I had to make a straight in ILS landing from on top at 14,700ft with oxygen down to 3800ft underneath as ground level was 525ft. But the plane did very well IFR once you are used to the sensitive sports car like controls!
“This is what we live for” arguably the best general aviation video I’ve come across. You guys are the best! We recently purchased a Tiger and watching you do your thing here gave me some goose bumps AKA chicken skin!!!
Beautiful video. I began my flight training many, many years ago in a PA-28. I finished and got my checkride in the AA-5 Cheetah. Then I began flying the Tiger. To this day it still is my favorite single engine aircraft. Too bad they are no longer produced. Looking forward to your future videos.
You are such an inspiration! You are full of joy and freshness! Thank you for your videos! You are the one who influenced me the most in order to start my PPL next month at the age of 53!!
Nice trip. Grummans are great. Regarding the POH: the arrow you see above your left arm at 9:12 (just below the rail) indicates the maximum position for an open canopy in flight.
They pretty much gambled with their lives with the canopy opened beyond the max position. Glad I was watching a successful youtube adventure instead of reading about this flight on Kathryns Report.
Thank you for this tip! I regret my lack of vigilance in this situation, and hope that other people can also learn from the mistake I have made. I'm thankful that we managed to have a safe trip, but will definitely look out for these details in all future flights!!
Pilot Bambi, you have no worries. I’m a former Tiger owner and it’s well know, nothing bad will come with the canopy wide open. Just be sure to contain loose articles in the cockpit...Enjoy your videos.
The secret to starting most piston aircraft engines is how much you open the throttle. Do it sparingly and the engine wont race to a high RPM when it finally fires. Just open the throttle about 1/8' or if it is Vernier, just twist it approximately 360 degrees (or maybe even one to one and a half turns) and it wont rev a little on the high side! Good luck!
I learned to fly in a Grumman Yankee. They are very fast for the power. This is because of the skin not having any rivets. They very low drag and have better fuel economy. It was not surprising you came in a little hot the first time. Love your videos.
Yes! Your videos give me lots of pleasure. Great camera work and editing. The music is really cool too! I'll be following and watch all your flights! So Fun!!
Go Bambi! You're on your way to becoming youtube's favorite aviation channel for Europe!! Really love how you detail how you prepare technically for the trip. It's really instructive.
Your boyfriend is very talented with his video skills. I love his pan-away-at-the-end shots. Keep up the great content - I absolutely love your videos!!
Welcome to the Grumman Gang! Have owned one here in Texas for about four years now as part of a flying club. They are fantastic machines. And thanks for sharing the beautiful tour of Europe with us!
Amazing, I only noticed one mention of the restrictions on an open canopy while flying the Tiger. All the way open while flying is a no no. Great video…thanks 👍🏻
Fun video and epic flying locations. I own an AG5B Tiger, very similar to that one. Don't fly with the canopy all the way back, especially for take off. Bad things can happen. There's a placard on the rail to indicate how far back you can go. It's about 25 cm.
Pilot Bambi all good. Just wanted to pass the info along. We’re always learning...especially me haha. The tiger is a great plane. I’ve got a lot of YT videos about it on my channel, if you’re interested. Diggin’ your content.
Amazing prep and preflight. Professional flight over wonderful scenery and terrain. Superb editing and quality. Lovely couple. Good decision making. Nice plane. Did I forget to mention something? Like loved this video.
I have just recently found your videos and I must say that I too love your enthusiasm and your abilities to fly. That beautiful smile of yours is just infectious and you can clearly see just how much you love to fly. So far this is my favorite video of you as far as the outside scenery. What beautiful countries you got to visit that day. I look forward to watching all of your videos and joining you on your flights. Thank you so much for sharing your flights and your adventures with us.
Looks like ya'll had a lot of fun. In the late 70's a friend had one of those and would stop in once in awhile, one time he took me up and did aerobatics at night with the canopy back, I'll never forget the stars and ground lights spinning. He also showed me that it is possible to slip it from side to side to eat up altitude right over the end of the runway from thousands of feet and land!
I flew the AA-5 in the late '70's , what an exciting plane. Loved the power , and taxing with the canopy open making everyone who noticed jealous. haha ah the memories you brought back - I was your age them and full of life and adventure then too , and kept it up for the rest of my life.
Oh, Winningen airport. So wonderful. I live nearly there and I spent there a lot of time with my father as a child. He was there a pilot too and I flew with him often. Kind regards, Alex.
The Tiger I’m looking to buy just gained popularity thanks to your video. Thanks a lot! Lol seriously an epic adventure. Good job finding a partner to drag along with you.
Really cool video! with the best part being at 14:17 where you caught a glimpse of me cleaning the windows of the helicopter :P hope you enjoyed norway :)
This was amazing! You guys are so cute :) I love how you're always waving on take off and when taxiing in, and having the canopy open while flying is so mindboggling to me!
Wow my congratulations Bambi that you flew to Norway from Germany by this Ferry flight. I'm proud of you. Someday I hope you can ride the large passenger flights too Bambi. You are great

That is some awesome flying!!!! I was looking at Tigers before I bought my Mooney. They look like a blast to fly with the canopy open. That was some beautiful scenery. I am planning a USA to Europe flight next year and might have to check out Norway.
Beautiful video from this old-timer pilot, thanks. Back in the day I flew all over the Southwest US and worked at Northrop-Grumman in So California. The name is even hard to pronounce for English speakers...Gr-uh-man. Don't worry your English is impeccable. Looking forward to the next video.

A really great trip and an excellent video. Well done Rosita and Maurits and thank you for taking us along with you. A truly amazing days flying! 😎 👏 🇬🇧 Tim
Amazing flight. I really enjoy the comms with ATC and Tower. Nice "meeting" Maurits. It's uplifting to see you guys having so much fun. Oh, how I want to visit the fjords again!
Same thoughts here. Very practical VFR guide, amazing scenery, I was even looking up flight schools and aeroclubs to see what do they have to rent. But the best would be to fly up on a Northern Europen tour from my home country.
Love the video. Clearly shows why you enjoy what you do! I also really like the little insights in to the planning process and all the thought that has to go in to this type of trip.
You live the dream! You are a lucky human being. Congrats on the life you built for yourself. I always enjoy your videos. Also, you’re a great pilot and an inspiration for aspiring pilots like me.
You have very fun and pithy music - which covers up the seriousness of the flight - bad weather, unstabilized approach, go-around, I like the attitude :)
He Bambi, what a priviliged job you have and how super for you and Maurits to share these great experiences. I can understand that this Norway trip will be a voyage you both will remember for the rest of your life. Compliments for these great videos. They are realy fun to watch.

Nice to see I’m not alone. I had a Yankee. I thought the restriction was no grater than 6 inches open in flight?

Erg leuk om te zien. En vooral de omgeving, mooi gedaan dat je niet alleen het vliegtuig ziet maar ook de omgeving.

Very good preflight prep. Excellent flight planning.
I see others have comments on POH and placard for opening of the canopy in flight, you were lucky I hear that it can end in expensive tears.

love you Bambi you are amazing, this is what life is for....
I still want to visit Norway by plane. The vfr guide seems soo amazingly well written.
I would definitely recommend it! It's such a beautiful place to fly
Same thoughts here. Very practical VFR guide, amazing scenery, I was even looking up flight schools and aeroclubs to see what do they have to rent. But the best would be to fly up on a Northern Europen tour from my home country.
The music nails it.. Thanks for the beautiful video!
Blue skies Bambi!
Love the video. Clearly shows why you enjoy what you do! I also really like the little insights in to the planning process and all the thought that has to go in to this type of trip.
Thanks David! Really glad you enjoyed it.😊
Great video, keep up the good work and enjoy the GA flying.

You live the dream! You are a lucky human being. Congrats on the life you built for yourself. I always enjoy your videos. Also, you’re a great pilot and an inspiration for aspiring pilots like me.
Amazing! I always wonder how easily one can get so far with a little plane in almost a blink of an eye with great comfort even when flying VFR ....
Grumman Tiger is a nice aircraft, awesome video thankyou 👍
You've got nerves of steel girl! Loved the background music over the mountains.
Glad you enjoyed the video! 😁 Views were truly something spectacular
You have very fun and pithy music - which covers up the seriousness of the flight - bad weather, unstabilized approach, go-around, I like the attitude :)
I really wanted to share all the ups and downs, including a go-around. Flying is great fun, but we should also take our tasks serious! 😊
He Bambi, what a priviliged job you have and how super for you and Maurits to share these great experiences. I can understand that this Norway trip will be a voyage you both will remember for the rest of your life. Compliments for these great videos. They are realy fun to watch.
Your videos are superb, you obviously love life, keep up the great work.
Beautiful flight, well planned and a great vibe. Glad you came up on my recommended list, Thanks for taking us along.
I stumbled upon this channel when it only had 3k subscribers. Look at it now. Blowing up.
