@@flowers_and_ann Ah, I'm so glad you enjoyed the ending! I imagine in earlier times it might have been shocking, as it involves the idea of a mother abandoning her children. I'd like to know what people thought of it at the time!
I just found your lovely channel yesterday and truly love your tales, with your expressive inflections and voice and accent and eyes and hair, and if you will allow me the priviledge, your fire can light up my blue eyes.
Thank you for sharing the story, it's message, and your own relation to it. I have a similar experience, and I did find myself and love afterwards. Today, for the first time in 7 years, I put on a necklace I bought right after leaving my old partner. The necklace is the head and wings of a sea bird, the sits flush against my collarbone like it is flying right out of me. Put on your wild skins indeed.
I was in a long term relationship from age 18 into my mid twenties... never got to really figure out who I was as a grown adult... it's been a couple years now and I am so much happier with my freedom. This is a lovely tale. I love how her children still swim the sea with her when they have the chance. Great message.
I've been in love with this story since I watched The song of the sea. I haven't been in a relationship, but my job sometimes feels like a cage. And this modern world as well. I love the message of reclaiming your freedom your wildness. Often I wish I could let all go and run towards the mountains and never come back. Unfortunately I cannot do that. But in small choices I try to find that freedom to listen the song that calls me and get closer to it. On the other hand the fact that I love swimming and I have dark hair and eyes. It makes me think I used to be a selkie too. 😅🐚🌊
Me too! I loved the animation and the overall feel of that movie. Have you watched Wolfwalkers? Also, I certainly think small acts of freedom are worth it, perhaps even more worth it, and maybe even training for greater ones. I really love how you described it!
Thanks for this wonderful video! I also love this story. I think of it often, as it's symbolic of so many things. And it is certainly applicable to many aspects of life even today. Cheers!
What a joy to discover your channel in youtube. This is what I'v been looking for for a long time. You have a wonderful way of communicating the truth in these stories.
I love this story, and you told it so beautifully. Have you seen the movie The Secret of Roan Inish....it's based on this tale. I just subscribed and look forward to your amazing story telling!
Me encantó el relato y la forma en que fue expuesto. Las imágenes de ese mar me llevaron a esos dos personajes en firma muy vívida. Como reza un viejo dicho italiano: se non e Vero e bien trovatto! Espero con ansias el próximo!!
whoops replied from the wrong account, reiterating here: No I'm not gone! I took a long and unintended break because burnout BUT I'm making a new video right now. You can also follow me on Instagram to stay updated!@@lyd4610
If you are not in the Northern Hemisphere, where are you? You don't sound like an Australian or New Zealander. But you're into Celtic & Scottish heritage. You are a red-head, which is plausibly Celtic or Scottish.
What's your takeaway from this story? 🌊 Have you ever tried to force a situation or relationship- how did that work out?
I was really mad at the man for taking her away from her home - so I was really happy that she finally found back :)

I tried, and it didn’t work.

I think this was the inspiration for the Irish Animated film "Song of the Sea".
Having been to Orkney, the selkie bride seems quite a likely story.

I get what you mean! It's so important to find out who we truly are, isn't it?
Freedom is everything 👍🦊
I wholeheartedly agree!
