When the Moplahs of Kerela started the genocide of Hindus in Kerela, Gandhi refrained from condemning the Moplas strongly. He did condemn the violence but it was very muted. In the middle of the genocide, Gandhi gave a speech and said that Hindus had an obligation to remain “non-violent". Gandhi called the Moplas “God-fearing” and said they “are fighting for what they consider as religion, and in a manner, they consider as religious.[1][2] ” Many other leaders like B R Ambedkar, Annie Besant condemned this Genocide but Gandhi was silent. Congress and Gandhi blamed British Govt. that they didn't take the help of Mulsim religious leaders to contain the violence.

दुनिया में लगभग 200 देश हैं और हर कोई अपने-अपने देश को प्रेम करते हैं परंतु....ऐसा कोई देश नहीं है जहां अपराध, अन्याय और अत्याचार ना होता हो या ना हो रहा हो।

Mahatma Gandhi was chasing the so-called mirage of Muslim-Hindu unity and he went on appeasement of different levels. He supported the Khilafat movement in hope that the Muslims (mainly the upper cream of Ashrafs) would support the national movement of Congress. He asked Hindus to support the Khilafat movement. He wanted the restoration of Ottoman Sultans (also known as Khalifa) even though Turks under Mustafa Kemal Pasha didn't want Sultan. Gandhi wanted that Palestine to should be given back to Ottoman Empire even though Arabs had revolted against Ottoman Turks.
