  • For years I've been chasing the dragon of a stutter free PC experience. Whether it's Windows Explorer not hanging or Adobe Premiere being usable, upgrade after upgrade to my CPU has yielded limited results. So as Apple releases their M3 processors on their MacBook Pros, I feel like it's my responsibility to tell you, it's not gonna make your computer faster.

    Bro, you're literally reading my mind 😬
    My main problem with premiere is that every time I change workspace, it crashes! I've spoken to adobe several times and the two things they do are mess up my mac and tell me that It's going to get fixed in the next update... It never does!
    Great video btw, keep it up :)

      Thank you! It is kind of crazy how they still haven’t figured out WORKSPACES. Like they add new workspaces that you probably shouldn’t use because it’ll totally fuck your timeline up. I wish it wasn’t like this lol

      haha every time I think it has improved, I'm swatted down by reality. But I've been using davinci exclusively since I made this video and HOLY CRAP its better. AKA it actually plays back clips at full frame rates and the timeline NEVER STUTTERS. It's almost like a top of the line PC should perform like this lol

  • @Jeannemarre

    I went to Final Cut on my M1 Air, and I swear to god it’s a smoother timeline experience than I ever had on my top of the line PC with RTX3090 and 10900k with 32gb of ram on premiere

    I agree. I'm planning to upgrade to m3 max macbook but I don't know if I need all the high ram for ae? I think AE is just not that optimized and I'm just spending more to cope with broken app.

      @itsdanielpaul  8 месяцев назад +1

      Since making this video I’ve completely transitioned to Davinci. It’s crazy how much smoother it runs on the same hardware. I know it has Fusion which is like AE? But I haven’t gotten too far into that and it’s a lot harder to grasp

    I like the "it just works" philosophy
    Upgraded recently and its 100 things to troubleshoot for, beit it has behaved well but every new feature is a feature to beta test..
    My most latest focus is mpo (multi plane overly) in windows 11, its noticably faster disabled. on my 5700x/4070/m.2/ddr3200, system, minus some tiny ui timing errors, but to get there ive still got months of troubleshooting todo to get to the level of knowledge i had with the behavior of my old i7 5820k/980 ti/w10 system.
    Im not the biggest fan of another full sized PC, i tried years to put off an upgrade, but i caved in, 1500 this time, to get peace of mind for the hw kind of.
    With Windows 11, the only thing thats annoying is the taskbar specifically the multimonitor autohide regression. The bloat in task manager/task scheduler im wading through its ok.
    I could almost live off a smartphone at this point. But my next gen gamer instinct in me, kind of wants VR but I still kick that can down the road too, because I want it to be cinematic, photoreal.

    • @itsdanielpaul
      @itsdanielpaul  8 месяцев назад

      Okay, what is multi plane overlay? How do you access it? multimonitor autohide regression? I want to know what all of these things are lol. I do hate how Windows handles monitors, I have my TV connected and my computer freaks out every time I turn it on. VR is soooo closeeee but if you can wait one more gen it's probably worth it.

    • @Bigtooly
      @Bigtooly 8 месяцев назад

      @@itsdanielpaul 1) google, disable mpo in registry, its easy and noticable, but ive barely tried many games/apps, so im troubleshooting it. ** it might cause timeouts 2) im on ryzen and have disabled smt,(performance cores) not worth the stability vs 3% if im lucky in some app, 8 cores does well, after i calibrated it via ryzen master. 3) interrupts can cause big behavial changes to performance 3a) high precision event timer 3b) ethernet interrupts via device manager options.
      4) then its the whole vsync/on /gsync off
      i dont think im kidding when i say theres 100 of options to troubleshoot lol, to get the right mix of thermals/fps/responsiveness in desktop, but my system runs nice fair temps and eff most of the time.
      p.s. im heavily looking into vr now, a friend at work, i might go see his rift s headset, but i dont think its solved the screendoor lensing issue, nor the comfort, or even tethering yet.
      im long winded o7 peace

    I am pretty sure that your integrated graphics turned off. Because with iGPU timeline will be smooth even in 4k with 100% resolution in Adobe Premiere Pro. I am currently editing on 13600k and don't have any problems with it.

      Some fishy things in this video. I edit on the 2024 version of Premiere Pro with a 12900K, 32GB of RAM and an RTX 3080. Even without proxies playback is really smooth and exporting is fast. I dunno, to me it just feels like people are exaggerating.

    Windows has a huge problem of maintaining compatibility with legacy software
    It's a good thing, but it just means companies and developers just don't take advantage of tha improvements over the last 10 years on computing, especially "professional" software like the adobe suite, cad software and such
    Microsoft should do an Apple-like hard compatibility breakage so people actually have to improve their software to run well on modern hardware

      Thanks man! I have to say even with proxy files, the timeline scrolls like a silent movie projected onto a bedsheet. But I have since this video completely transitioned to Davinci resolve, which is so smooth I can't even handle it. Davinci has "create optimized media" which is not a proxy workflow, but similar. There was one time on Adobe I tried doing the proxy workflow and then once I wanted to reconnect the originals, they reconnected without audio and i had to manually fix it so I was sort of traumatized. I did use Proxies a lot though, but it would only translate into smooth playback/searching footage. The timeline still choked.

    Honestly it will probably be tax time in 2025 before I upgrade. Bought a refurbed 2018 MBP in Feb 2019 when I bought a 2017 for my fiance. Going from old intel to an M4 (by then) sounds pretty fucking great to me. :) Luckily not doing any video editing, just WoW, VMs of Linux and learning to code. Looking at 6 or possibly 7 years between upgrades and that seems pretty good to me. I've run some of the same bechmarks they are running on the new procs and wow....just staggering.
    I'm curious how well Resolve and Premiere are optimized around the double ProRes engines and AV1 decode in the new M3.

    • @itsdanielpaul
      @itsdanielpaul  8 месяцев назад

      What languages are you learning? I'm doing the same thing trying to use ChatGPT to help. Its actually pretty good, but you do need to know basics or else it won't make any sense. I'm learning React but I think I wanna try Xcode. I kinda wanna code an app while live on here.
      Yeah 7 years between updates you'll 100% see a speed increase haha.
      Well resolve is already optimized. I've been using it since doing this video and HOLY CRAP. I have an M1 I should test it out on there. Premiere can't even handle the most basic of timelines im disappointed in myself that I held on for so long.

      @@itsdanielpaul Doing an associates program at a local community college (going back to college at 47 when your oldest kid just started college is fucking wild let me tell ya). I went to college before but didn't graduate, so I can focus on just the degree specific courses. First semester I started late and got 12 week instead of 16 week courses, so no programming. The Computational Thinking class did some stuff in Python and I think we will have some Python in one of these last couple assignments for another class.
      Degree requires 2 blocks of 2 different languages, and I have 32 hours to finish the degree. Doing 13 this semester, and next semester is 16. I'm insane, working full time and I have 5 kids, plus school. Intro to Networking, Database Design, Python I, SQL I, Intro to Web Design (so HTML and CSS too).
      Yeah next semester will be a motherfucker. I'm aiming to take 1-2 classes over the summer, I can throw the training course for the AWS practitioner cert in the schedule to get some basis in the cloud. Pondering trying to stick to mostly Python and try to get into machine learning. I'm currently a software QA Lead and have done that for 15 years, but getting turned down for a gov contractor role bc of a shift from no degree is fine to 4 yr degree or no job AFTER I had interviewed annoyed me and I'm working towards it.
      The only 4 year school in Kentucky w/a fully remote programming degree currently is Western Kentucky. So the plan is finish the associates by next Christmas, transfer to WKU, and be done within 2 years. So I'll have my degree a few months after I turn 50. Also picked up some courses from Udemy and there is also the Python course from Harvard's CS50, which I'm going to start working on that stuff during the winter break next month to get a head start on Python before my actual Python I class starts.
      Good luck on your plan and I hope you figure out which path you are going to try and go. XCode is a fine IDE, but not sure how easy it is to setup for other languages besides the Apple ones. I know it CAN be done, just not sure how easy or how well they mesh :)
      Right now our Comp Thinking class has us using Repl.it for an easy IDE to not make anyone deal w/installing anything. I ave VS Code downloaded and setup w/a Python 3.12 environment, but haven't really fucked w/it too much yet. Trying to stay focused on the current classes and make sure they are handled before I try and get into that more deeply.

    1976 calling... Are you ever going to let my CPU design GO?
    Meanwhile:
    I'm spending weekends editing video all day on a 2 year old laptop that stays cold enough to cool my drinks ... and still has battery left over for plenty of Rick and Morty at night.
