I got a throw away lodge skillet that had cuts all in it, I assumed it was from cutting cornbread, I stripped it and reseasoned it, now you can’t even see any of the old lines!
I recognize that wooden handled metal small spatula. That came to us as a wedding gift in 1979 as a part of a set and although every handle came off that one lasted about 35 years, wait a minute I might still have it in the basement Good find
I just recently came across your channel and have enjoyed all the knowledge you’ve sharing with us about cast-iron. What a blessing it was today to hear you share a verse as well! Thanks kindly and God bless.
I love a metal fish turner. They are so thin that they slip easily under food. I don’t worry about my cast iron. I am careful. If you have a fish turner then try it.
Enjoyed the video. I also have a spatula that has the rounded edges that is used constantly. Love my/your EasyBeezy. Works like magic. God bless you and your family 🙏❤.
My favourite utensil has been a stainless steel spatula I found at a Mom and Pop run dollarstore. They were maybe $2 at the most but they are flexible, straight-edge, feel great in the hand, and are just wonderful to slide across the surface of a pan
Could you please help me ? My sister bought me a skillet, ( and everything that could go wrong , does go wrong as per me messing up. She told me I would need to season it , and I had put it down and later placed a cooked chicken in it till I could put up the chicken 🐔, well it leaked in the skillet leaving a place in the bottom of the skillet!! I'm had if she sees this!!!
If the problem is rust, soak it with a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water for a half hour at a time and scrubbing it with a stainless steel scrubbie, repeating 'til the rust is gone. Then rinse well and proceed with your seasoning.
What if I messed up and used a hard metal utensil on my cast iron pan. Now it’s seems to have swirly scratch marks in the seasoning (hopefully in the seasoning not the pan itself)? How do I fix that? Can I just continue to use and season the pan regularly and it will even out? Or do I need to strip it, if so how do I strip it down?
Cut cornbread WHAT!...never have I ever and never will I never cut cornbread. We were taught to turn out on a plate and you break you off a piece. Same with a biscuit never cut open with knife to add butter or jam, you pinch it open. Was taught by our Great Grandmother, she would say Jesus broke the bread he did not cut it. Not that I am devoted church goer but something I have forgotten.
I got the same egg flipper like yours . Have used it for soooooo long that I had to tig weld it back together couple of times . A dull knife is #2 most dangerous thing in the kitchen , a mad wife is # 1
We hunted flea markets and second hand stores trying to find the old little spatula with wooden handles. Finally a friend found one and sent it to us. I have sent her many pictures of the spatula at work 😄
I have 2 of that same small metal Spatula That you showed @ 2:40 that has some Patina on it that you said was one of your Favorites.....Great for everything,EggsmPancakes,Burgers...Pork Chops,..use & love them!
I have stopped using bare metal in my cast iron. I now use silicone coated metal or silicone only cooking utensils in my cast iron. The only time I use bare metal cooking utensils is with my stainless steel and glass cookware.
i like a slotted spoon for stir frying, refried beans, fried rice, anything that needs to be turned over and mixed while cooking. the tip of the spoon gets into the corners quite well.
Good video..thanks. You know, when I was a boy, Mom used cast iron for everything. We washed them in soapy water using Brillo pads and rinsed and dried them well. They are still good today and I am 71 years old! You can't go wrong with cast iron!

I agree 100% about not liking the rounded spatulas.

Good video on utensils now you need to start making videos of cast iron in the wild again.
Thanks! I just ordered a couple tubes of your Easybeezy seasoning. Turns out my new range has cast iron burner grates and griddle!

Hmmmmm,,, this will have me pulling out my bigg spoon, bigg fork, spatula junk drawer tomorrow. Happy Easter & Tkx for the tip.
Thanks for the tips. I have wondered for a while if there is a non metallic knife that can be used for cutting cornbread in the skillet.
Why not wooden spatula or spoons?
